RE: Why the near obsession with over powering airplanes?
I see some fliers that couldn't fly if their planes weren't overpowered. They takeoff and immediately stick the nose of the plane straight up rather than flying it like it was an airplane (and I'm not talking about 3D'ers). A plane with the recommended motor would stall and crash. They fly motors with attached planes rather than planes with attached motors.

RE: How do we get the word out?
"He eventually did come by our club and flew there several times." The club I am a member of requires AMA membership (insurance coverage) before the first flight. Your profile says you are a member of the Dalton RC Flyers. The AMA website says one of the club restrictions for the Dalton RC Flyers is AMA membership. So, assuming all this is accurate why was he allowed to fly "several times" without AMA coverage? Did this not put the club at risk? My point is that unless we as club members take the AMA requirement seriously why should someone else less knowledgeable about it put much importance on it?

RE: Modeler or ARfer?
I drive to my flying field in an automobile I did not make, wearing clothes I did not weave, and eat food I did not grow. So who really cares how I got my airplane?

RE: Gas RC was a mistake !!!!
" starting to feel this was a troll post" That was my impression from the very first post. That is why I said there are two sides to every story and we didn't have the instructors side of it. But, a lot of people were sure quick to "dog" the instructor.

RE: Gas RC was a mistake !!!!
I guess I see this a little differently than most. If you already knew how to fly then all he really needed to teach you was the operation of a glow motor. Starting, tuning, etc. and discuss the characteristics of a glow powered plane relative to electric power. Past that you just needed to be checked off that you were safe and met whatever flying criteria the club has. There are two sides to every story and we don't have the instructors. Did the instructor mean that he/nobody else used rudder on takeoff at that club (which I would have a hard time believing) or did he mean while in the air? That's two different things and we don't know what he meant, because we don't have his side of the story. These aren't full-scale planes. They can be flown (in the air) w/o rudder successfully and that skill picked up later. That's how I learned so I know. I have seen and experienced the sacrifices a club instructor makes. I will give them the benefit of the doubt every time until I have the WHOLE story. (Not sure why this says In response to escontrol. It is just a post.)
