help with blade mcx
I have one that's been under the bed for a year and I took it out and flew it a little and the bat went dead. I checked the batteries and they were low so I replaced them. ( charger batteries) I tried charging the little flight bats but they didn't seem to work. After many tries at charging them, I have two, I pulled the replacement bats and saw I had put one in wrong. I replaced them all with new ones again but after 1/2 hour charging it still won't fly. The light on the heli blinks about 3-4 times a second. Are the eflight batteries bad or is something wrong with the bird itself? thanks

RE: jerrys big boy by morris hobbies
Hi everyone. Just saw the thread was back and thought I'd see whatsup. Combat 20 I would just assemble and fly. The BB is great as is. I've had mine for years and even after several crashes it's good as ever. I flew mine first with a G26 but have since went to a YS 110. It's much better with the YS because of the weight difference. As for East RC, it does exist because RVator has visited the store. He said it's pretty nice with lots of goodies for sell. But not the Spoiler. The last I heard was that the kits are state side and in container waiting for custom inspection. "uhh yeah". I was on the list but it's been so long now I've lost interest in it. Good luck with your BB.

I'm looking for a site that sells stuff for small indoor planes like the DW Foamie Yak JR. 28" span. Maybe even a site that offers complete kits for indoor stuff that small. Please help.

RE: Just a little info please
Thanks alot. I didn't know the shaft was tapered. I'm guessing the sound I heard while in flight was the prop slipping, or more accurately, the spinner backing plate. Anyway, think I'll just replace the washer. Thanks again.

Just a little info please
I was flying my Jerry's big boy Sunday and I noticed an odd sound. When I tried to start my YS 110 FZ for another flight, it wouldn't start. It kicked back and the prop came loose. I removed the spinner (aluminum back) and tried again. It tried to start but did the same thing. Now this wasn't some loud detination just a sort of pop and then I could make the prop slip by hand, though it still was pretty tight. I removed the spinner and prop and found the thrust washer worn badly. I definately need a new one. As I turned the thing by hand with the glow removed I noticed a spot where the engine made a clicking sound. I removed the valve cover and found no discernable looseness or tightness. What could be making the sound? This engine normally starts very easily and runs without a flaw. I've had it for a few years but doubt it has anywhere near 300 flights. How long should I go before I send it back for bearing change and what does Richard charge for parts and labor for that. I can change the washer for about $30 for the part and tool. If the problem is only the washer, then I hate to send it back. I sent it back when new because I couldn't get it to run. I don't think I've touched the needles since I got it back. Now if I just change the washer, do I just heat the new up to get it on? Since I need a puller it obviously isn't a slip fit.

RE: jerrys big boy by morris hobbies
Duh, this thread we're posting on. [:)] There was an ICE MAN that took up donations for US soldier to get him a Big Boy but I don't know if the guy ever got it. It all just seemed to go away. Morris Hobbies quit carrying the BB and Jerry, the creator of the Big Boy modified it and called it the Spoiler. At least I think thats how it came down. The spoiler is supposed to fly even better than the BB but I've never seen one fly in person. An NC hobbie shop supposedly has the spoiler coming out but thats too has been going on for months and months. The shop is somewhere near Raleigh NC I think. If I have some or all of this wrong please feel free to correct me.

A while back I came looking for the same thread. I had to go back about five or six pages to find it. Has anyone done that? I agree with DW Foamies. I also have one the same size from Charger RC and it flys great. Don't let anyone tell you that they won't land slow. It's just not so. I can drag the tail of mine on the ground and set it down. It's probably my slowest landing plane I have.

I may get one of the spoilers if they ever become available but that's the last plane and biggest I'll get. I'm kinda liking my smaller foam models. I have two with 38" wings, profiles, and one that weighs in a less than 10 grams. The motor is about the size of a dime. To be honest, the foam 38" wing from Charger RC is one of the best flying planes I own. Don't get me wrong, I love the BB. It's just a bit more of a hassle getting it to the field and back, plus there's the clean up of the goo. I still love the smell of nitro in the morning!

home made stickers for foam planes
It seems I read here somewhere that you can purchase the sheets of paper used to make the "water slide off" type of stickers. If so where can you buy it? And is there a site where you can download templates of military stickers like the star and bar you see on wings of air force planes. USAF, NAVY you know stuff like that.

FMA DIRECT
I got this email today. By now many have heard about the credit card security breach at FMA's web hosting company. This breach involved only online orders. You may receive duplicate messages via email about this situation. Please be patient as we are attempting to contact every FMA Direct online customer and overlap in the database is inevitable. During the last week of October, FMA received two inquiries within a matter of days about possible compromised credit cards. In both cases the customer informed us that they had used their card at multiple online sites and could not confirm which site(s) could have been compromised. We promptly notified the company who hosts our website about the possible compromise of our database. After extensive research on their end, our website host notified FMA that no breach could be detected. Nevertheless, as of November 1, 2008 the additional precautionary measures were implemented by FMA's host: 1) Hardened all login passwords that could have presented an opportunity for such theft. 2) Added stronger encryption algorithms to any credit card transactions received on our partner's web hosting company's servers. 3) Added additional security measures to further ensure credit card information is secure at our web hosting service. During subsequent investigation, it became apparent that the breach did, in fact, take place at FMA's web host company. As a result, FMA is advising all credit card customers who purchased through the FMA Direct website, to notify their credit card company immediately for possible fraudulent charges. We highly recommend that you cancel any credit card used at the FMA Direct site prior to November 1, 2008, even if no fraudulent charges have occurred. FMA deeply regrets the inconvenience this has caused our customers. FMA Direct is a small, family owned business. This set of circumstances has been disturbing to our family. Since the breach became evident to the management of FMA we have reviewed all security measures and have taken steps including those outlined above to increase security. We are assured by our web hosting company that the online buying process through FMA Direct is secure. To further gain the trust of our valued customers, FMA has added PayPal as a secure buying method. All orders placed through PayPal go through their approved site which is the most secure buying site available. FMA is currently offering specials on several products. In appreciation of your continued support we will extend an additional $10 discount on your next order for all existing customers through the end of the year. Please mention code SP112408.

RE: jerrys big boy by morris hobbies
Yeah guys it's good to be back. Just haven't been visiting the site lately. Actually, haven't been able to fly much due to the wind. It's been really bad here in central VA. Last time I flew my BB though it flew great as usual. I let RVator fly it before we left and she dead sticked on him. Unusual for the YS to do that but it did and he brought it in across field and set it down just before the gravel road. The farmer had just cut the hay and it was laying, not raked, on the field and caught the wheels and flipped her over in the gravel. Got some rash on the top of the vert. stab thats about it. I crashed that world models ulimate40. My 46fx died and she dropped a wing. Oh well, like they say, bi-planes, everybody needs to own at least one! There were two "iceman" posting here I think. One looked like a teenager the other was involved somehow with the Morris Hobbies I think. whatdayasay?

RE: please help me find a plane
Do you have a transmitter? That will add a bunch to your start up costs. There are some really good ones out there now even computer trans. that aren't too expensive. Still, ask around the local hobby shops. Guys are going to the 2.4 radios and I'll bet theres alot of radios for sale now. Next, I say go with flat foam winged planes. If you go with the ones with at least 37" wings they fly really well and the gear to get going isn't going to break you. Most online airplane dealers let you know which motor you need.

RE: First plane?
Look I don't want to knock HobbyZone planes. They're probably fine. I'm familiar with the Typhoon. I've seen it flown alot. I wouldn't get it for your first 3D. Stick with the flat foam wing planes. Stay with the (approx) 37"-38" wing planes. They'll weigh less that 16oz. Get a Hacker 20/20L, a Berg receiver, a 1320mhr 3cell Thunderpower battery, and 4 Hitec HS55 servos, an APC 11X3.8 prop. You'll need a charger for the battery. I have two foam planes both flat wing. One has 28" wing (DW Foamies) weighs 4.5oz. The other has 38" wing (Charger RC) and weighs about 16oz. The larger plane flys as well as any plane I own. Don't let people tell you they fall out of the sky when the throttle is cut. Mine will land at a crawl. I mean, let the tail touch and cut the throttle and it drops to the ground. I'm amazed at how well it flies. The small plane really needs to be flown inside but I have flown it outside twice and it "don't like the wind", any wind. Add up the price of the stuff above and the plane costs $49 and comes with everything you need except the stuff I listed.

DW Foamies Information
I would like to post a note about DW Foamies. It may be a little long. Here goes. I was in the market for a small foamy. I had purchased a 37" wing flat foamy from Charger RC and loved it. I was surfing the web and went to the DW Foamie site. I had a question so I called the number. Mike took the call from his cell while on the road. He answered my question and took my order for the 28" wing Yak JR. It seemed to be taking too long to receive my order so I contacted Mike. He found the order and said he was really sorry and that in taking my order on the road, it had got set aside but it was on the way. When I got my credit card statement it said about $500 was charger to my account by DW Foam. I didn't make the connection and got scared and called the bank to stop the payment. I called the number and realized it was the foamie dealer and called them. Mike answered again. I found it to be a one man operation and he said he was very sorry that it was a billing mistake. The bill was supposed to go to a hobbie shop not me. He called my bank and straightened it all out. I know that I posted something about it here on RCU but trully don't remember what I wrote. I hope I didn't trash him because I'm positive it was an honest mistake. Mike seems to be a nice fellow and does the foamies on the side. Anyway, I got an email two days ago saying the shipment was on the way. I asked my wife what she had bought, she said nothing. I then saw another email and opened it and this is what it said. Smitty, I just found a thread on RCU about your experiences with our 28" version of the YAK, sorry to hear you had problems with it. Our goal is to have a happy customer, we are sending you a YAK 38" version to fly. This will become your favorite foamie, you will like this much more than your Charger RC foamie. Thanks for the business. Mike www.DWFoamies.com Needless to say that in this age of rude customer support and all, I was really surprised. Mike cleared up the problem and went the extra mile as you can see. Thanks Mike. As for the last line,,, all I can say is,, we'll see.lol I just thought the members would like to know.

RE: Best Foam 3D Plane
I have two foam planes. One is the Charger RC yak with 38" wing. Using Eflite 400 outrunner and HS 55s. It flys better than any plane I own. It is stable and goes where it's pointed. I also have the DW Foamie Yak JR with the 25" wing. It was much more time consuming to put together and I'm ready to do away with the all the pull-pull controls now. I've flown it once, outside, and I thought it was windless. This is for sure an indoor plane. ANY wind makes landing almost impossible. Not saying it isn't a good product just more involved building than I expected. The Charger was put together and ready to fly in about three hours.

RE: Ultra stick w/26GT2
Hi Kevin. My story goes, we went to the field to maiden the US lite. I took some photos with my grandaughter and my son-in-law said "they say taking pics before you maiden is bad luck". We laughed and proceded to gas her up. Did the range check and took off. Made a few pattern rounds and lined up for landing and was too hot. I said I'm going farther out this time and get more time to slow her down. On the base leg I went into the trees at LEAST two hundred yards from the end of the field. Talk about depth perception.[:o] Anyway that was my new 120. I lost and old white and red one in the trees at another club field. Got my engine and fuse but not the wing. Anyway, I was upset and said I was ready to quit but my wife said give it some time and I did. Bought a new 120 and installed the G26 after haveing the shaft straightened. Flew her on a Saturday, (no photos this time), with good results. Went back out Sunday and made a flight and landed, fueled it back up and took off again. Let my son-in-law have the radio and he made a couple laps and she started losing altitude on down wind over some trees. He was pulling on the stick without any response. She went in and was total loss, I mean it was raining balsa. Found that the Hitec metal gear servo are screw had loosened enough to cause loss of control but not come completely off the shaft. Really wierd. Anyhoo,, that was my last US 120. I went with the Morris Hobbies Big Boy and it has a taller geat and will do anything I'm capable of doing. Good luck with yours. Smitty

The manual wasn't too good. It tells you to soak the parts in hot water and I ruined mine using too hot of water. Make it just a bit hotter than you can leave your hand in. I remember working for seemed forever on that thing. The wood was soft and I didn't trust it. I put a new YS 110 on it and I must have done something wrong as far as the radio was concerned because on maiden it got about thirty yards out on take off and began rolling. Went in straight down and did $150 damage to my engine and plane was total loss.

RE: Ultra stick w/26GT2
I had one of the old ones and two of the 120 lites. I used two different motors. A Super Tigre 3000 way too much, and a G26. The gear is short on the plane and causes some clearance issues. I went ahead and cut a hatch opening on top of the fuse behind the firewall to get at my stuff. Under the wing is the best place for the tank mount the rudder servo in the rear for weight. These planes love trees, I warn ya. All of mine ended up there. One on it's maiden. One one the second trip to the field. I couldn't depend on my G26 so when I lost the last one I got a Big Boy and went with a YS 110. Never looked back, no dead sticks, and plenty of power. Now,,,, the fuel cost went up a bit.[&o]

Hi T, sorry to hear about your 40s. When I just logged on, I read the top post as it was mine, I said, darn it, I forgot that I had work to do on mine. I need to pull the tank out and fix the fueler. It's been just to darn windy here of late, to fly. Yesterday was the best in weeks but there was hay rolls all over our field and very close to the runway, so I figured, better not fly till they get it up. Did fly my elecs Sat though.

RVator did that to mine a year or more ago. The G26 died (gee was I surprised) and he didn't make it back to the field. Tore the gear block out and the firewall. I shortened the front an inch and put a thicker firewall in. I took mine plus two electrics to our field Sat. but the farmer was rolling hay bales. I flew my elec. and went home. We're headed for NagsHead tomorrow and are taking our elecs. Hope the wind isn't too bad to fly. I think, maybe early morning or late evening we might get some air time. Still waiting for some word on the Spoilers. How about plans for one. Who has 'em?
