RE: Sig 1/4scale C/W Cub build
sorry to hear about the maiden VJ... not sure what happened in other events for you. take care. i'm surprised that 20 wouldn't work. i've seen a 20 fly on another plane we have at our field and i swear that thing has plenty of power and would fly a cub easily. glad you are back making balsa dust again. i'm thinking of doing the same this winter just because i can and really it is one cheap form of entertainment.

RE: Sig 1/4scale C/W Cub build
i have that engine in mine! love it! gotta be honest that i rarely use more than 3/4 throttle on it so i can't even remember the RPM or prop i am swinging. i will test it out and let you know. i use a Synthetic 4stroke 15% fuel.

RE: Sig 1/4scale C/W Cub build
ORIGINAL: RH Sorry for the delay on the pics of my fuel tank setup. We've had great flying weather for a change and I've been taking advantage of it. As I mentioned earlier, I modified the bottom of the fuselage aft of the fire wall so it would be removable in order to provide easy access to the fuel tank and plumbing. In order to get the tank in a good elevation relative to the carb, I used foam blocks to give it good support. The SIG manual (it's real old) suggested hanging the tank with by rubber bands, but that didn't seem very practical to me. Here are some photos of how it's configured. Rick...
hi rick looking at your engine fuel lines and vent etc. is your CC vent capped off? what is the other line next the fuel inlet on the carb?? i'm considering that exhaust.. looks VERY nice:)

RE: Sig 1/4scale C/W Cub build
thanks rick, i see it now... sorry i missed that. i guess i'm still wondering how to configure mine without a pressure connection for the tank. my engine does run great... there are a few times when doing some aerobatics that it will conk out. i feel that on short final it will load up a bit too but rarely quits. i was quite careful on my tank height too but still looking for info on the proper plumbing method without a pressure line. i sure hope to have this cub for years to come. it really is a fun plane to fly. ... clears skies to you Vincent for your maiden flight! cheers

RE: Sig 1/4scale C/W Cub build
Great... thanks RH... how did you do the Pressure line? does it come from your custom exhaust? i just have a short pipe on mine without anything to attach it to...so i've just put a loop in it so fuel won't drain out. i'm just not sure how to properly route or plumb it.

RH, what exhaust is on your engine? is that an OS 120 engine? i'm curious on how you did your fuel lines and what you have connected. the trim you guys have looks great.

RE: Sig 1/4scale C/W Cub build
Great video! i was curious on the black trim at the bottom of the windscreen where it touches the front of the cowl. wondered if it was for sealing it, clean-up the edge for looks, etc? my vent line on my OS Twin is still not set properly. gotta get that figured out from the Gemini experts!!!

RE: Sig 1/4scale C/W Cub build
hi, not sure it is completely relevant for your application but i used two coats of dope and then ran out of it sadly:( i then did some lite sanding and then used a couple of coats of Miniwax poly and it covered it really well with that. no pin holes at all. when i did the top of the fuse i tried to put some red colour there but for whatever reason i had the paint react to the one underneath! i freaked out as it was the last bit of painting i had to do. i wet sanded over and over and then just shot white back on it. i used krylon latex white spray from walmart! easy to work with but did take more to cover the plane though.

RE: Sig 1/4scale C/W Cub build
Covers? really, i was trying to make some up last summer. going to check into that on your site. i found replacement o-rings at our local automotive shop so i bought a half-dozen. VERY cheap to keep in the field box. even without fuel contamination they will still crack over time.

RE: Sig 1/4scale C/W Cub build
ORIGINAL: VincentJ [:o]No pics tonight.  Not a lot of progress to report (busy with work).  I drilled and secured the tee nuts to the landing gear blocks, as well as epoxy the landing gear blocks to the fuse. Finally received my landing gear from Robart.  Not very happy with them - though the end product turned out fine there wasn't one bolt hole that lined up perfectly.  I had to file and carefuly fit each piece together.  Took me almost two hours to get it finished.  Call me crazy, for the money that the gear costs one would expect not to do what I had to do.  Sorry I'm venting- I feel better now!  Did anyone else have this problem?  Will try to tpost some pics tomorrow.
i felt the same way as you when i received them. after some tweaking they seem to function really well, i'm sure you'll feel the same way when they get put to use. your build is progressing really well!!

RE: Sig 1/4scale C/W Cub build
agreed, i would really have a look at Koverall. i did mine this way and was super happy with the strength of that product. shrinks beautifully and will again take most any paint. i ended up doing spraycan and then cleared it with TopFlite clear as i am running the OS Gemini:)

RE: Sig 1/4scale C/W Cub build
any of you guys have experience with the OS 160 Gemini twin? i won't be flying the cub again till next spring but want to figure out the proper way to get the fuel tank, lines connected better. what have others done for the plumbing? good to see the thread still active:)

RE: Sig 1/4scale C/W Cub build
great to see some other builders getting started on some CW Cubs! it really is a great model to build. it frames up quickly but really is a time consuming model to 'finish'. the 90% complete seems to drag on for a while.

RE: Sig 1/4scale C/W Cub build
hey guys, well i've had my Cub done for a little while now. i scanned through the posts on the thread since i've built mine and wondered what all the talk was about the Stab mod? what did you change and why? i built mine pretty close to stock but did a hybrid door mod. i just finished doing the magnets in it the other week. i got lazy and didn't get that part done. the top window would eventually start to fly after a few touch n' goes[;)] now that won't happen!! i also developed a small hairline crack in the cowl too. mostly cosmetic as the fiberglass that i did on the inside didn't show any signs of fatigue. i sanded down the stress point so i'm hoping it's much better now. i've split my cowl to accommodate the OS Twin:) i'm still searching the best method to plumb the lines for the Twin engine and the tank. it works but i'm not completely happy with it.

mine came out the same but worse than yours. i refitted my jury struts and tweaked the angles a bit better. yours aren't too bad though.

great, another Cub on the board!:) i covered my CW Cub Fuse and Vertical Fin as one. well each side got a separate piece. i covered my Stab and Elevator before i installed them. not sure how yours will compare. i used Koverall to do mine. have fun building it!

ahhh... great to see another build on the table! post when you have got into it! i'm still tuning my OS 160 twin, had a engine out last time after some more aggressive maneuvers. landed without any issues at all.... maybe it was just luck;) still looking at how you guys with a OS twin do the fuel line runs.?? anyone??

Rick, look at this pic from Sullivan.... my remote glow locks came with the engine as i bought it used but i'm pretty sure it is the same. i used Koverall and did the gear with it too. it turned out pretty good and so far it's been holding up. glad some ideas can help you out and you get it flying soon.
