Excellent job. I thoroughly enjoyed this thread. I went to your website hoping to read about the repairs. Do you have any updates?

I read the article and looked over the plans & seems to be a rather straight forward build.

RE: December Tower Talk ARF's
ORIGINAL: fly24-7 This is a reality of times today. Not everyone in the hobby has the free time available to build. If we didn't have the availability of ARFs we have today, this hobby would be in BIG TROUBLE.
How did we every find time for the hobby before ARF's? I had a job, wife & kids that took up a great deal of time and I still managed to find time to build. If you didn't build you didn't fly. These days I have a job, same wife & kids and now grand kids and I still find time to build. I guess what I'm saying is now you have a choice between building a kit or buying a ARF.

I built a Florio Flyer 25 a few years back. I would think the instructions should be the same. I'll go out to my shop tomorrow and find what I have. Are you looking for the plans or just the instructions? Dave
AMA is a proven and long established organization that supports model aviation, this is a brand new unproven group that has not track record and has offered no information beyond the address where they want you to send your money.
GM is a proven and long established company - will GM be around in 5 years? I don't think you would be asked to mail a check if this was a scam. You would be asked to send a check by FedEx to bypass a charge of mail fraud.

RE: AMA competitor launches! Sportfliers.com $20 per year
So are they a not for profit or a for profit business? The AMA is a not for profit. Since the USAMA makes no mention of I highly suspect they are a for profit and if so, you know what their number one priority is.... Need I say more?
Just because you're a non-profit organization or business only means that you don't show a profit at the end of each business year. In other words you spend every dollar that you take in. Example: Your organization receives $1,000,000 in premiums, donations or from sales and you have $250,000 in costs. That extra $750,000 is paid to the officers in your organization in the form of salaries. Guess what Income - Costs = Profit. In this example $1,000,000 Income - ($250,000 (Overhead) + $750,000 (Officer Salaries)) = $0.00 Profit.

RE: TF P-47 60" Sheeting
Slowly getting this bird built. Wings are framed so on to the wing sheeting next. I bought enough additional 3/32" balsa to completely sheet the wings with. I plan on getting this done by the end of the month. I plan on heading out west the first couple of weeks in June so I'll start fiberglassing when I get back. What are some good hobby shops and clubs to go to in the Pheonix area and also in Las Vegas. I have some conventions in those cities so I should have some extra time on my hands. RE: New Magnum 91 - What Plane?
I wasn't looking to get a new engine now, but I got a deal I couldn't let pass. I've been thinking about a Sig 1/5 cub lately. I've had a .20 GP Cub for the last couple of years that I enjoy every time I take it out. Something new always cost more than what I buy. New engine = new plane, New plane = new engine.

New Magnum 91 - What Plane?
I got a new Magnum 91 FS today and now I need a plane to stick it in? Any suggestions? I'm currently building a TF P-47 Gold Edition but I don't think the Magnum 91 has enough get up and go. What do you guys think. Dave

RE: TF P-47 60" Sheeting
A question about sheeting the wing of my 60" TF P-47. Did you use 3/32" balsa to sheet the entire top and bottom of the wing? I should start the sheeting later this week or this weekend. Big Tim Have you had the first flight of your P-47? If so how did she do. Any problems that we should look out for. Dave

RE: TF P-47 60" Sheeting
Looking good. Glad you're going to have a nice weekend, it looks like it's going to rain and the warm weather is going to disappear for this weekend so there won't be any air time for me. I'm planning on framing the wing and maybe start fiberglassing the fuselage this weekend and with the bad weather I will not have to do yardwork.

RE: TF P-47 60" Sheeting
I've been working slowly on the P-47 and am finally finishing the fuselage. I decided against the TW retract, but now I kind of wish that I had. I keep asking myself just how much work would it be to cut open the fuselage and install it now. I think that I'm going to make the tailcone out of FG to cut down on weight and for access if I decide to put the TW retract in later. Can I use the ABS parts as a mould to make FG parts? Also I'm looking for pictures of the adapters that are used to fill the retract air tanks. This is my first time with retracts and I need some ideas on charging the tank. Trying to post some pictures and I really don't know how it will turn out.

RE: TF P-47 60" Sheeting
I went back & forth about the putting in a a retractable TW. Cut the new former installed thr gear started thinking about steering set-up and playing around with that, but in the end I decided to used a fixed TW on this bird. I wanted to save weight in the tail. I spent this weekend laying out the wing to move the retracts to the scale postion. I taken qiute a few pictures and I'll post some shortly. I haven't seen anything on a paint method, but I have used steel wool in an electric eraser. I suppose that you could also use a Dremel on low RPM. The results lok great.

RE: TF P-47 60" Sheeting
Nice looking plane bigtim and a excellent job building it. When do you plan on having the maiden flight? I should be working on the TW retract this weekend and if I have time sheeting the bottom of the fuslage. I think that I've decided to use a Magnum 91 for power so I guess I'll order it this week. The weather man is calling for sunny skies with temp's in the upper 60's this weekend and wouldn't you know it "She who must be obeyed" is out of town so it's fly all day and play with the T-Bird all night.

RE: TF P-47 60" Sheeting
Always think 3 or 4 steps ahead of what your doing right now, its really easy to get ahead of yourself. I like to build it in my mind before commiting myself. It's easier to take apart a mental picture than a glued plane.

RE: TF P-47 60" Sheeting
P47Tbolt, I'm thinking about running over to the swap meet in Perry, Ga at the end of this month. It's only a couple of hours away and I'd like to see that plane first hand. What was the flying weight and was the Saito a little under powered? I was able to spend some quailty time in the shop last weekend and able to get something done. I'm hoping that will be the beginning of a trend.

RE: TF P-47 60" Sheeting
That's what I thought. I will have to make another former to attach the retract to. Thanks for the heads up on making sure everything works right before sheeting the bottom. I can see me making the same mistake and buildin myself into a corner. How far forward did you put the air cylinder? I'm slowly getting some work done on the plane. I've made a promise to myself to finish this project in at less time than Pete from the land of Oz. But in fairness he's doing one heck of a job.

10 off 50 011XM just worked for me. I bought a GP Slow Poke and didn't really want to. I just wanted to see if the discount would be applied at checkout. It did and now I have another kit to add to the stack.

RE: TF P-47 60" Sheeting
I'd like to see some pictures of the TW retract installation. That will soon be at the top of my To Do list and I haven't really studied the plans to see how it will fit. I putting the cocpit kit in and scale hinge lines. I'm not going to do a lot of extra's since I'm building to fly and have fun with. I am going to play around with panel lines and rivets for practice for when I build a larger version next fall or winter.
