RE: totally enclosed linkages..looking for troubles
Hi George! Just get some decent RDS linkages. Graupner has them for standard servos and I am using them in a Jetco XL on the rudders. The linkage is as slopfree as you get ist with regular linkages and once aou understand how it works and how to mount it right, you will not loose any torque. Best regards, David

RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)
Hi guys! I have almost finsihed my C-ARF Spitfire. After the first two successful flights I will start with the cockpit. The model is powered by a DA-85 with Sierra Precision extension and MTW muffler. The only part sticking out of the cowl is the top of the spark-plug... BR, David

RE: carf mig 15
Hi Anurag! Do you use the original tailpipe? You might concider installing a lighter tailpipe from JetCat. I bought a MiG-15 ready to fly. It was build by my friend Heiko Gärtner from the german jet team and is one of the three kits that were made for the jwm. It has the turbine further forward and with the original tailpipe I still need 1kg lead in the nose. But it flies beautiful. Once I get time, I will change the tailpipe and finish the model, for now, I prefer to fly it :D David

RE: Spitfire CARF-Models 2011 Build Thread. Started by Lazy Eight & WARBIRDRCER
Hi Cory! Hard to give an advice, without knowing you and your skills personally. A friend of mine started flying with big warbirds half a year after he had his first rc-flight ever. The one thing I do not understand is people talking others into getting IMAC or pattern airplanes to start with. In my opinion, that is complete bs. Why? You do not get a feeling for a scale airplane flying an overpowered aerobatic plane with low wingloading. Landing an aerobatic airplane is completely different to a "heavy" scale model. The best way to get into whatever kind of flying is to have someone who's already into it. Is there anyone near you, who can assist you for the first flights? That would be much better than watching IMAC planes land with high AOA and full up-elevator. That will not work on your Spitfire :D 120m is long enough for the Spitfire. I am building one at the moment and we are flying on a strip that is the same length. Mainly I fly jets from that field, from fast sport-jets to big and heavy scale-jets (Airworld Cougar and L-39). If you really do want to get started with warbirds, the Spitfire from C-ARF is a good start. Not too much to build, not too many tricky details and a relatively low wing-loading. It just has a narrow track, but that's what makes the difference... David

RE: G Booster 80...Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down?
Hi Jetfan! After they have changed the 80 Boosters from 6V Kerostart to 12V-Kerostart, I have only good experience with the engines. I have owned and used two of them since they were introduced from Graupner. No hassle, great ECU and good performance. I have flown them in two different 2m Viperjets from Tomahawk, the BTE Reaction R54, PAF Sting, Graupner Harpoon II (similiar to New Rookie) and a flying triangle (Euro-Firebird). If you have any detailled questions, feel free to send me an e-mail, David

RE: My Festo disaster!
Hi! Same here. I was happy with them for a few years. I had one split in my AW Cougar. Those filters are Vacuum-filters and therefore probably not designed for pressure :) Change them for JetCat filters and be happy. David

RE: C-ARF Ultra Flash build Thread + Video
Hi guys! Sending the Corel-file to Mike didn't work, so here is a link for the Ultraflash-font: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2763138/Ultraflash%20font.cdr The retracts are almost stock. I just use Airtech-Germany wheels and brakes instead of the Intairco ones. The recommended set-up is strong enough to handle rough grass-fields and still is light enough. I am using Jet-Tronics valves instead of the servo-driven Behotec one, but that is more a matter of personal preference. David

RE: Sports Jet Feedback
Sure? It is butt-ugly! Looks like the DV8Rs ugly brother. For my liking, the nose is way to short and too small. Elevator looks massive on the pictures. And the canopy looks like someone found it in the workshop and fitted it after the jet was finished. I KNOW, jet trainers do not have to be beauties and I have flown quite a few "different" jets (Facet, AV8R, Assassin, Reaction). But that is a bit off for my liking :D David

RE: C-ARF Ultra Flash build Thread + Video
Hi all! Yes, I liked the Flash-font on Dave's model and downloaded a free font from the internet. I made all the vector-grafix (dbgrafx :) ) and had Ralle Schneider cut them for me. If anyone is interested in the vectors for the Ultraflash vinyls, just send me an e-mail and I can send you the Corel-file in the right size. Or get them from Tailormadedecals... David

RE: C-ARF Ultra Flash build Thread + Video
Hi guys! After 3 months of bad weather and useless flying fields (due to bad weather), I finally managed to maiden my Ultraflash. A beautiful day with 15°C, a dry flying field and 20 km/h headwind with gusts of up to 40km/h. Damn, that Ultra is a nice plane. With the settings from Dave Wilshere it feels like I have flown it for ages, from the first minute. Minor aileron trimming and a fair bit of elevator needed, due to a slightly nose-heavy C/G. And with full flaps it lands like a trainer 40... BR, David

RE: IQ-Hammer Turbines
Hi Darryl! Who is your local Booster-dealer in UAE? I am just wondering, that it took 3 months to check the engines. Usual turn-around time with Turbo-Didi is pretty fast. We have been flying a couple of Booster engines in Al Ain in 2009. Pretty flawless and I see no reason, why they should not run there. BR, David

RE: C-ARF Ultra Flash build Thread + Video
Hi MArk! Yes 8 days is a tough deal, but I build mine in 14 days :). Usually I am not in a hurry with maiden flights, but I really wanted to fly that bird before I go on holidays. That'll be saturday morning... But weather looks good here, at least no rain for the last 3 days and the field is drying off. So with a little luck, we go flying on friday. Have fun building your UF. It is real fun to build! David P.S.: A big "thank you" to Dave Wilshere for answering my questions and sending me his settings. Great service. And thanks to Thomas Singer who did a great job, too.

RE: IQ-Hammer Turbines
Hi Todd! That was definitely a problem, that people overseas didn't know where to send the engines. For that reason, it is good that they finally divided and do their own stuff. Now, with that new situation, Turbo-Diddi doesn't use the Orbit ECUs anymore. And he is happy with the performance of the Projet-ECU and the way those guys react on his input for the right engine-management. That is why IQ-engines are different. Not only internally, but with a hole new software/electronic. I am sorry for everyone who had bad experience with his Booster engine. I do own 4 of them and have always been very happy with the way they perform. They have had not more or less problems as any other engine I have been using. David

RE: Jet Pricing - Why so complicated
Hi Dennis! You are always referring to the ARF-Warbirds that come with everything for decent price? Can you name some of them? I am really looking forward to a full-composite ARF warbird that is reasonable priced and comes with good hardware. I only know of these more or less "scale" film-covered warbirds, that come in funny paint-schemes, with weak plastic-gear. After seeing your comments about kerostart in the P-100 thread I reckon u are to bored with your hundreds of ARFs. You should consider building something from scratch. I do not even need five minutes to ad the few numbers from a pricelist. And some people like cockpits, others do not care. Some people like the scale-gear, others would like to stick to their preffered retract-brand. Where is the point to have a complete package and then ask if they would sell it without some of the parts? David

RE: Making Fuel Tanks
Hi! The way that works best for me is: Cut the foam-plug in to two halfs before you start glassing it. We use that wide brown tape (usually used on parcels) and cover the halfs in it. Than wax the halfs. If there is some space in the fuselage, I glue the halfs to a flat plate and laminate the tank-halfs. Just laminate it up to the plate. After releasing you can cut it the way that there is a lip around the halfs. That makes it easy to join the halfs with some aeropoxy. It is best to use cloth with a fine pattern, instead of thick cloth with lots of "holes" in it. Three layers should be more than enough. David

Hi Jeremy! To answer your question: ZAP 40 is better known as "Finishing Resin". That stuff you use to glass your wood-sheeted airplanes :). When was that again? In the 90s? That reminds me that I should build something from wood in the future... David

RE: Wolfgang Klühr practising for JetPower 2010
HallO! Well, first of all: I have watched the vid a couple of times. But I can not see any sign of stall. I have talked to Stephan about his new Albatros and he said, he couldn't get it to stall. But I have to agree: He nows his stuff, even if it didn't look as perfect as his Hawk-flying. I have seen the full-size Albatros during Jetpower and Ali's flight just after it. I would not say, that Ali's big Tomahawk L-39 looked slow, compared to the full-size. Yes, he can fly it extremely slow, if he wants. That is the nice thing with our models. Most of us here in germany do fly from rather short grass-strips. And it is fine if you can take-off and land your jets on the local strip. People don't bother to fly non-scale aerobatic manouvers, ever seen a T-33 doing a straight and slow roll? Probably not, but who cares? If you see the right guys flying the big light scale-jets in a scale manner, you can hardly say if it is a model or a full-scale one. BR, David

Hi Stefan! I knew I didn't like you - now I know why :D just kidding I really want to have it as quick as I can, but it ain't to bad to bring all the minor repairs and things to a quick end, before I start on the Ultra. Damn, that is one sweet looking jet and the flights were very impressive. I am going to put a G-Booster 80 in it, but might just swop it for a 130 IQ-Hammer. Any wanting a good G-80? :) david
