RE: New Hitec Aurora 9-Channel 2.4Ghz Radio System
Just ordered mine from Troybuilt Models. They had 5 in stock - with 7ch RX. Will get here on Monday. Look forward to giving it a whirl!

RE: WOW!! New DL 111cc and 55cc !
Just a FYI on the DLE-111. I purchased one from Troybuilt. Before I took it to the field, put some gas in and started flipping the prop. Carb would not draw in gas. Checked fuel line - gas in the line. Choke on - throttle closed or wide open - no gas was being drawn into the carb. So having always used DAs, I was not really happy. Called Troybuilt - and they basically said the rubber diaphram would probably be dry and it would need to be primed. Basically spray some gas in the carb, choke it and get it to pop. Do this a couple of time and it should be good to go. Guess what? It worked. Starts right up. Heading to the field this weekend with my Pitts Python!

RE: New 50cc Extra 300LP QB
Thanks for setting me straight on the landing gear. I should have read the post a little better. Glad to know that I missed the part on the comp-arf. AW planes are one of the best built planes around. I had a Comp-Arf Yak and had he same weak landing gear issue.

RE: New 50cc Extra 300LP QB
Could you go into detail on the landing gear mounting issue? I had one of the earlier Yak 100cc and it was a wood plate/block affair. This setup would not take much stress before it would fail. AW then changed it to the standard wood/aluminum bracket setup, which works very well. I fly off a grass field and added strength in the landing gear area is always nice. Thanks.

RE: nitro planes SU-26 50CC specs
I ordered one of nitroplanes 50CC Yaks - they have two different models. The one I got was a POS. Motor mount was not even glued together. Wing tube sleeve was made of some sort of paper tube that would crush with the slightest pressure. I can go on and on - but it in my mind I woudn't even give $100 for the Yak that I received from Nitromodels. Bottom line on the 50CC Nitromodel planes - be prepared for major rework - planes that don't balance correctly - instructions that are piss poor to rip offs of other manuals. If you are going to spend $300 for the plane and $400 to $500 for a motor, plus servo's, electrics, etc, i would spend a few $150 or so more and get a good plane from Wildhare or some place similar.

RE: Fishy?
The UPS rep did mention preferred rates and incintivs, but he thought that the rate difference was excessive. The thinking was that Nitroplanes purposly lists the weight as 1 lb and it if gets by the UPS system, well it only costs $27 to ship the item. I have a UPS account and do ship quite a few items via Ebay, and her at RC Universe. The dimensions of the box and the shipping weight of 1 lb does work out to be around $30 or so. This is a great thing for Nitroplanes - who would want to pay $70 shipping for a $300 item - and then to get a very sub standard product? The UPS rep really didn't care to much about this package as it had already been delivered, etc. But it did peak his interest and he suggested if I wanted I could pursue it further. All I know is that if NitroPlanes can ship if for $27 they can print me out a return shipping label for the same and email it to me. I would be happy to afix it to the damaged an substandard model and ship it back. I have had shipping damaged products from QQ Aircraft and Aeroworks. Each time they filed a claim with the shipper and sent me a new airframe (QQ Aircraft) and a new wing (Aeroworks). NitroPlanes wants me to pay full shipping charges to send the damaged plane back. This is not shipping damage. The plane packed and received exactly as shown in the photos. Here are some pics.

Fishy?
I have already complained about such a poor qualiyt Yak that I recieved, and Nitroplanes issued me an RMA - BUT they want me to pay for shipping back. I checked with UPS and UPS wants $75 to ship it back. I checked with UPS and Nitroplanes listed the box weight as 1 lb. Which it isn't. More like 30 lbs. UPS stated that something was fishy with the shipping of this box. Nitroplanes only charged me $27 to ship the plane which is dirt cheap for shipping a box this big. So my question is......How does Nitroplanes get away with listing a 30 lb box as 1lb and only paying $27 for shipping? The UPS rep was curious on this also. He thinks that Nitroplanes is purposly listing the weight low and the boxes are slipping past the system. He gave me a numbe to call if I wanted to pursue this furhter. I can't pay $70 for shipping back on a plane that cost $300. So why can't Nitroplanes issue me a UPS label for a return RMA? Oh, for the $27 that I paid to have the plane shipped to me? Inquiring minds want to know!!!!

RE: Nitro Planes
I totally agree. Not bashing Nitroplanes or anything - as there 50cc planes are half the cost of the "higer end" guys, but when you get a plane that you can't even put together without some serious fixing and modifications. The Yak that I just received had the motor box all screwed up - with little or no glue on the motor box and many other areas had almost no glue. I'm still waiting for an answer to the wrong plane being shipped. I've been building and flying planes for quite some time and I knew it was a gamble with such a low price. I just feel sorry for the guys that are new to this hobby and purchase products from NitroPlanes and get burned by poor products, missing parts, etc. I know that if I did put this 50CC Yak together as it came out of the box, I would have been lucky to get a couple of flights out of it. More then likely the motor box would have failed, the landing plate/gear would have failed. The landing gear on this Yak is the two piece variety that has such a small mounting area that there is really very little support for the landing gear. Truly you do get what you pay for. It is a rare find when you get a quality product at a great price. My last purchase was a QQ Aircraft 100cc Python (on sale for $999) and before that a Aeroworks 50CC Pythong ($659). Do you know why they cost that much? Because they sell quality products. So as long as you understand that what you are going to get from NitroPlanes is a substandard model then go for it. That is what I did and other then the plane being damaged when I got it and Nitromodels sending the wrong plane - the quality is what I expected - substandard.

RE: Fuselage stringers
Ok, it is 60-60-60. The stringers are used for the fuse - with a 1/16" balsa sheeting over the stringers. I have included some pics. So does anyone have any ideas where one could find this type of balsa stringers? Thanks.

Fuselage stringers
I'm rebuilding an arf and am looking for balsa stringers. I have found the 1/4 x 1/4 stringers but am having difficulty finding the "triangle stringers". I orginally thougt the triangle stringers were just 45 degree angle but there not, the angle is more acute. The cross section is more like a 45% stringer ripped in half lenghwise. So the angle of the pices might be 27% or so. Kind of hard to describe in words The reason I'm posting this on the building site, is I'm hoping you guys that build kits would have a good idea of where one could find the balsa stringers. Thanks!

RE: 85 or 100?
The python comes setup for the DA 100. There is some firewall work that needs to be done to install the DA85. Also an airbox needs to be fabricated. I already had a DA100 - so that is what I used. The DA100 is a little smoother and will swing a larger prop - but weighs a little more. But you can save a few bucks with the DA85, but I think the airframe won't last as long (but that is my opinion only). And I hate to chop up a nice looking motor box. Just my 2 cents worth.

Excellent Customer Support
My Python was delivered via BAX last Tuesday. Very minor external damage - a little crushing on the corner. I started to examine the fuse and found that the internal frame work in the front of the fuse had massive damage. It appeared that the motor mount had received a fairly large hit and that force was transmitted to the internal framework. I called BAX Global - they said to call QQ Aircraft. I called on Wed - but they were closed until Monday - due to the remnants of IKE. So I took a lot of pics and sent them via e-mail to QQ Aircraft. Today - Saturday - I got a call from QQ Aircraft. The said that they would take care of the issue - send me a new plane and file the claim with BAX. That is customer service with exclamation points. Over the years I have received some planes with damage and some vendors basically say - can you fix it? - maybe if you do his or do that. QQ Aircraft never even brought up the issue of can it be repaired. The quality of the Pitts 100cc is excellent. The fit and finish are also excellent. This is my first plane from QQ Aircraft - and it won't be my last. Excellent company, excellent customer support, excellent plane.

Python power setup?
What are you guys running in your python to manage power to your servos? I am going to be using the Hitec 7955 servos, along with the JR R921 RX. I have some 2700 mah Li-Ion 2 cell batteries. Was wondering if you guys are running y cables to the ailerons, or are going with a smart-fly or similar solution? Thanks in advance.

RE: 100cc Yak and Extra Landing gear problems
Being the owner of the first gen AW yak 100 and the second Gen AW yak 100, I can say with some authority, that both gens are excellent. That being said the first gen used hardwood for the landing gear to attach to and would upon some heavy duty side loads crack and rip out. The second gen fixed this with the aluminum L brackets, and on my second flight with the second gen I did come in a little hot on a grass run way and before the plane had slowed down enough I had to turn on the grass field, causing the plane to hop on the left side of the gear. No problems at all. On the first gen, I would have been repairing the landing gear plates (belive me I know about this - reparing at least a couple of times). The Yak is a very nuetural flying aircraft with very little mixing needed. Excellent plane.

RE: 1 or 2 servos for 100 cc yak?
Been flying this plane all summer - with one 5995 rudder servo. After a few heavy uses of the rudder, it does get a little soft. So I'm doubling up on the rudder servo. Single RX - Spektrum DX7 RX - Emcotec Power Box - Two 2600mah LiIon for the Emcotec and a single 2600 LiIon for the Ignition. CF Wing Tube. If you haven't purchased one yet, you will get the "revised" landing gear plate model. They have added the aluminum "L" bracket bracing on either side. A few people were having landing gear plates failing. It really is a great plane - best one I have ever flown.

RE: X9303 New Ship Dates (estimate)
I waited to order mine until a few weeks ago. Did not want to be put on a waiting list. I called up the Hobby Store - in stock - got mine in about 3 days. The Airplane versions are available at a few hobby stores that I know of. I just hate to be put on a waiting list - who knows when a new product will be available? So many factors that can come into play to delay a new product Anyway, great radio. Went from a 9cap to a DX7 to a x9303.

RE: Ordering the 100cc YAK this week need some advice
Great plane. Good choice. I believe you will get the "revised" landing block version. Which has some aluminum angle to tie the landing gear blocks to the main parts of the fuse. I like light, so I went with the CF Tube front and rear. I have (3) Troy Built Li-Ion 2600mah. One is for the DA Ignition and the other two feed into a Emcotec DPSI RV Mini, which provides redundant regulated power to the receiver and servo's. I use Hitech Digitals 5985's on ailerons and elevator and a single 5995 on the rudder - but I'm thinking about adding a second.

RE: Yak 100 cc known issues
When I rebuilt my LG plates assembly I was about to add the Aluminum bracket - but instead added hardwood tristock - which was missing in my Yak. Earlier i posted some pics from the installation manual - which showed tristock located where the LG bolts go through the wood block - I added the tristock and so far so good. Don't know why they would eliminate the tristock in such a critical area?

Do the initial bind without servos. Then get your plane set up, with servos and linkage all connected and set up. Then rebind. This will set up the fail safe with all servos and control arms in the nuetral position.

RE: Yak 100 cc known issues
I was looking at the pics on the Install DVD and was looking at the folder Engine Photos. In particular I was looking at photo E15. I noticed that there is Tri-Stock on the landing gear plate that the landing gear attaches to. My Yak DID NOT HAVE this tri-stock. It had tri-stock on the fore and aft piece but not on the piece that the landing gear bolts to. Don't know why my 100cc Yak did not have the Tri-Stock as shown in the picture. At the field we were all wondering why the landing gear plates failed so easily. Missing Tri-Stock and a knotty landing gear plate- geeesshhhh!!!!!! I have included a photo with the tri-stock circled in red - which my Yak did not have.

RE: Yak 100 cc known issues
Well almost done replaceing the landing gear plates. Everyone at the field was surprised that it was damaged. Landings are always pretty good - with the exception of the one fairly slow side load on the right landing gear. As mentioned earlier the right fore and aft landing gear plate was notty right where the two landing gear bolts go through and that is right were it cracked. I removed the right side for and aft plate and then proceeded to remove the left side. Let me tell you the left side was solid as a rock - I felt bad that I had to remove it as it was very solid. So in short - would be nice if the builder did not use notty wood on a high stress section. On the 100CC Yak I'm connecting the fore and aft plate with 1" aluminum angle to the main fuse/motor mount wall and the left and right plate also. The landing gear bolts will go though both landing gear plates and the aluminum angle. I was tempted to use Tri-Stock as orginally built - but since I'm in there with all new material I thought that I would beef it up a little. Also using TiteBond III wood glue on all new wood joints.

RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
All I use any more is the Smart-Fly Kill Switch. Used to use the choke servo method and also the throttle trim. I still can kill my motor with the throttle trim - AS A BACK UP to the Kill switch. I have ran only DA-50's and when I would use the choke servo to kill the motor - it would require quite a few attempts to start the motor before it would start. With the throttle trim - and after I used it to kill the motor - it would be kind of a pain to get the trim back to the original location - resulting in your idel RPM being off - which can be unsafe, especilly if it is high. Now with the Kill Switch - land - kill the motor at idle - refuel - flip - flip and off you go.

RE: Yak 100 cc known issues
Well - after looking at the cracked landing gear blocks - there are (3) pieces - 1 on each side running front to back and another piece that runs left to right. It is the right front to back piece and the cross piece that are cracked. The right piece is a very knotty piece of wood and if anyone has ever worked with wood - knotty wood is not very durable - a pain in the ass to work with but breaks very easy - so basically I have a weak, knotty landing gear block. Not very easy to beef up. So what are the odds that you will get a plane that has a landing gear block that has knots it it and is weak? Probably not very high. I have to figure out how to make my weak piece stong enought to take the punishment of landings. Don't let my issue deter you from buying one of these planes. They are very good planes.
