RE: Heng Long Tiger Smoke Unit Repair and Mod
ORIGINAL: drc35ca are the resistors just wrapped in wick as shown and conected to stock power leads? I have 40 year old trains that have never been touched and work fine?
In my MTH's they use wire wound resistors, nichrome is cheaper

RE: Tap & Clearance Drill sizes
ORIGINAL: philipat What's the difference between thread cutting and thread forming? What's the difference between a spiral and a bottom tap? Oh...thanks for the links guys.
Thread cutting is just that ,like someone stated ,cutting threads, forming is well forming, forming threads can be used for better results in certain hard plastics abs, pvc. Spiral point and spiral fluted taps help clear the "chips" out as not to gum up while tapping, way better then straight flute "taper" and "plug" taps , bottom taps are used to finish blind holes and I do mean finish alot of people try to use a bottom tap to do the entire tapping, I have not seen a bottom tap that can make threads from begining to end you typically need to start with a taper tap first. Always you a cutting fluid, even water works, but if you need something safe for plastics try isoprophyl alcohol just be aware of the fire hazard, I like to use a quality silicone spray for my metal cutting as chips dont stick at all Hand tapping typically is 1 1/2 turns in 1/2 to 1 turn out this helps prevent gumming ,for most jobs carbon steel works , but if you doing stainless high speed steel or TI coated ,same goes for threading ,I would not go any lower then IRWIN HANSON taps and dies, Snap on, Mac , Matco all use rebranded irwin stuff, dubro is also ok,

RE: Tap & Clearance Drill sizes
For metric all you have to do is minus the thread and that will give you the proper size so m3 x.5 you would need a 2.5mm bit , this works for thread cutting not forming, thats a different animal http://www.jarviscuttingtools.com/_private/Technical%20info/Jarflo%20Tap%20Drill%20Sizes.pdf And you want spiral taps if possible and maybe some bottom taps too

They burn the oil/smoke fluid, it's either a heating element or now guys are using ceramic resistors with much better reliabilty

RE: question about metal track
I got the new black painted ones from rctankwars.com which I believe are the mato ones and they fit better then the regular metal ones I got when I got the tank, I also have the late asiatam wheels and the metal hull, if you have the older metal drive and idlers you want to get the new ones that come with the bushings now.

RE: ASIATAM PIII LOWER HULL NEEDS NEW RUBBER
How would you cut the groove with a water jet or a laser etching machine? it would need to be at least 4 axis ? I think making a mold then casting your own in silicone based would be better, pure silicone tends to shread once torn, I would suggest anyone with "rubber" wheels give them a good soaking in some high quality silicone spray ,this with keep the "rubber" from drying out.

Help me choose a new TX for elmod pro
Gonna take the plunge and go with a elmod pro setup, trying to decide what radio system to go with ? I recommended that Phil take a look at the rds8000 crawler system and now he stocks it :) , but the system looks a little dated , was looking at the Futaba 7c and 8fg and so on,havent looked at any JR's not worried too much about the sticks , everything can be modded to have returns, I am gonna keep my airsoft ,and smoke ,so if theres a radio with a least a push button or a monetary switch for the air soft gun firing that would be awesome ,or a way to mod one to do so that works too, please give me your likes dislike of what ever system your using ,must be at least 7 ch, T.I.A

RE: Stripped Screw Holes
ORIGINAL: Eggman1965 What's the best fix for stripped plastic screw holes? My MATO Sherman turret won't stay together anymore and I don't want to make things worse.
If your using coarse thread you can try fine thread, that usually works for me, if the plastic is cracked , you can sleeve the outside after you put a little epozy or ca on the crack(s)or you can melt a little plastic in the hole, drill and retap
ORIGINAL: Eli12 Hmm, nice pick too bad it might drain my battries :P
Screw that, would probably pull any metal on the tank right off, though if mounted properly you could put your tank vertical on any metallic surface ,though i doubt you could over come the magnetic force to actually drive it

RE: Identifying lost part
ORIGINAL: lposter Plus, I have a 25 mm PC fan mounted on the RX18. The fan refuses to start on the 7.2V...it obviously needs the standard 12V. You have to flick it to get it going. Is this a common problem and if so how have others sorted it out? Any help appreciated... p
I have 25mm 12v, it's actually better to run a 12v for cooling the rx18 then a 5v, you dont want a cooling fan to fail, I wired mine up so that anytime I turn the main power on the fan is running, my fan starts on it's on , I bought it from rccommand, fits perfect, cools alot.

RE: Will I have any issues running a 8000mah 7.4v lipo on hl electronics?
ORIGINAL: BiggTony I've used eight 18650 3.7v li-ion batteries to make a total of 7.4v @ 12000 mAh for a few days and suffered no problems......but tanking by myself, I don't drive my tank more than 30-45 minutes at a time. Many will tell you that you will want to add a PC fan over the fets in your control board to cool that sucker down. There was probabely a good reason other than cost for the manufactures to include no more than 1700mAh-2000mAh batteries, lol!
I run 12 cells of the 18650, being well over 3 months no issues, 3:1 asiatam gear box, upgraded smoke unit and fan over the rx18

RE: Does RCCommand back their sales with a warranty?
PM strmnd54, he sent me resistors and all, ran my smoker for 2 hours, no problem, the wick did get kinda crispy, ran it for 5 hours or so and my solder joint failed, ran it for 8 hrs and only had my solder joint fail and the wicks get crispy, but she's still going strong !!! I think rccommand should just resistors instead, far better results !!!

RE: Identifying lost part
ORIGINAL: lposter Nice pictures there BigTony and very helpful! I have managed to get a spring in there but it is way too powerful. It takes a good deal of pressing to budge the barrel downwards and I doubt very much indeed that it would be a good idea to try the elevation motor on it... But those pictures help a lot.... Regarding counter weights on the gun assesmbly....where do you stick them? Or do they just hang or whatever? And ballpark figure.....how much do they weight assuming they are attached somehow to th emain body of the BB unit? p
stick the weights as far away from the barrel as possible, it's counter weight ,I have no idea how heavy you need, just keep adding till you can use the softest spring possible.I would look at stick on automotive weights

RE: Identifying lost part
If your running a heavy barrel, use a counter weight on the back end of air soft unit, a heavier spring is only really a cover up to the issue, a softer spring with a counter weight is better then a stronger spring, which only puts more stress on the elevation tab and motor assm.

RE: Identifying lost part
The spring is a bout 1 1/2 inches long with a 5/8 diameter, I actually replaced the stock one for a softer one from a losi mini T shock set, less strain on the little tab that rides the elevation motor cam assm.

RE: tiger 1 done
ORIGINAL: pattoncommander Basic tank nice...good camo scheme but, those sheet metal track skirts are WAY too flimsy to support anything, so those boxes have to move before they simply dropped off or got lost as the skirts got ripped off by trees and underbrush. Anything placed there would be subject to a lot of damage. Stowage on the back deck also has to be placed so it doesn't block the air to the engine and burn up the tank.. and nobody had time to clean and put camo on fuel or oil drums. They were a use once and dump or quick exchange deal.
I did not see him say he was trying to be "correct", his tank, he can do whatever he wants, IMHO. Nice tank by the way, camo scheme is very nice, all the accessories are a nice touch, keep up the good work
