RE: Syma S008 micro 3 channel helicopter review
Those links shouldn't be coming off, that's definitely a problem, I have a blade mxc, an e sky lama v2, a honey bee cp2, and an S008, none of them have ever had a fly bar link come off, it's not a common problem. The hole on the link may be a little to big, or the ball holding it on may be a little to small. It will be hard to change the size of the hole on the link, but you may be able to add something to the ball holding it on to make it thicker so that the link wont slip off as easily. I had the result once of my S008 spinning out of control on start up, I was teaching my girlfriend to fly and we flew it to almost the end of the battery, I kept hitting the trim button to straighting it out as the battery died, I probably hit it 20 times. The next time I started the helicopter, the trim was still set 20 clicks to the left, it spun around like crazy until I remembered to reset the trim. I don't know if this relates to your problem or not though. Hope this helps.

RE: Syma S008 micro 3 channel helicopter review
I usually don't have to adjust my trim more then once or twice, and usually only when the battery is getting low. The trim is pretty sensitive on mine and only takes a few clicks to get it straight. it does have a gyro so make sure you turn the helicopter on first, set it on a flat surface, then turn on the transmitter. The gyro sets itself as soon as the helicopter gets a signal from the transmitter. The light stops flashing and turns solid when it's ready. It does have a tendency during a hover to want to drift backwards a little bit, either because of the heavy tail, and/or large tail surface deflecting some of the rotor wash. You could experiment with removing parts of the plastic tail, but it wouldn't look as cool. You can also add a little bit of weight to the nose. I've never really check this things center of gravity, it would be a good start though. if the center of gravity is off, then adding weight to the nose or removing weight from the tail is the easy fix. If the center of gravity is spot on then the problem would probably be rotor wash pushing down on the tail. I do like the way the tail looks though, the only times i notice any problems are on take off, if you don't thrust up quickly enough it will drift backwards and the tail can hit the floor. Turning off the helicopter doesn't reset the trim, the trim settings seam to be stored in the transmitter, so if you trim the helicopter towards the end of the flight because of a low battery you will need to re trim it when you have a fully charge battery, you usually have to manually click it back to center at the beginning of each flight, pulling out the batteries doesn't seam to do it. The only modifications I've dun was adding paper missile pods, But without the canopy this thing can carry a lot of weight so you could theoretically do a lot to it.

RE: Syma S008 micro 3 channel helicopter review
Hear are some pictures of mine. The buttons on the top of the TX are the trim buttons, and you only need to click them once or twice to stop it from spinning. I'm also attaching a picture of the tail and how it can be off center after a crash. I'm still very impressed with this heli, I hope we see more designs like it in the future. It is one of the best scale models of it's size, and that adds a lot to the flight, plus the battery and rotors are great.

RE: Syma S008 micro 3 channel helicopter review
Something that you might want to do is secure the tail motor. it's held in by only one screw, and during a wreck the whole tail motor and tail fin can get pointed slightly sideways. It will cause the helicopter to spin instead of going straight, but You can easily push it back into the correct position. It's not a bad idea to put a small drop of glue to hold it straight. For 30- 35 bucks, it's a great deal. I love my MCX as well, but it is a little fragile. The syma S008 seams to really be able to take a good bashing. And it just looks so cool, I need to order an extra canopy and do an island hoper paint job on it.

Syma S008 micro 3 channel helicopter review
This is a review of the new Syma S008 3 channel helicopter. video review http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ImHZql-fneg&feature=PlayList&p=9DD8F13BEA1245E1&index=7 I picked this one up from www.budgetgadgets.com This is a direct link to the helicopter http://www.budgetgadgets.com/mini-syma-s008-explorer-helicopter-p-5235.html It sells for around 35 dollars, and I think it is a great deal. Plus budgetgadgets is offering free shipping, I received mine in a little over a week, the package was a little banged up, but the helicopter came in one piece and flew perfectly right out of the box. It is a well built 3 channel helicopter, and I love how realistic the canopy looks, it is very nicely screwed on to the body, and the see through cockpit window on the front comes off very easily so you can gain access to the battery very quickly. This helicopter is a good candidate for modifications, a plantraco bahama battery would work really nicely in this helicopter. It has an all plastic canopy with a very nice realistic scale look, the canopy is held together with small screws and it’s easy to remove. The rotors are made of very strong and thick plastic, and they aren’t very likely to strike each other during a wreck, so you shouldn’t have any broken blades from blade strikes. The rotor shafts are very sturdy, there is a hollow outer shaft with an inner shaft, and all of the pieces like the rotor head and flybar are screwed on so they are easy to remove and repair. It recharges through the transmitter in about 25 minutes and it flies for a good 8 minutes, and it has a lot of power, it has a lot more power then any other 3 channel helicopter I have ever seen, it is also very stable It flies like a dream, just a little less then half throttle and it will be hovering hands free. When transitioning to forward flight it is very smooth, the tail fan has 3 different speeds, so you can slowly hover around, or you can quickly dart off in any direction. It flies in reverse very nicely as well. Like all rc helicopters it does take some skill to fly, but it is easy to master. I love flying this helicopter around, I’ve flown it 3 or 4 times a day ever since I got it. I do suggest using rechargeable batteries in the transmitter; I wore out a set of batteries in less then a week. The throttle is on the left stick and the yaw (spin) and pitch (forward and reverse) are on the right stick, it has trim buttons on the top of the transmitter, and they work very well. The charging plug comes out of a little compartment in the side of the transmitter, and it takes 6 AA batteries. The transmitter is very sturdy and it is very well designed, from the sticks to the battery compartment. This helicopter is a must have for your collection. RE: HAVOC HELI! SUPER MOD?
Their is a $40 version from micro gear, this is a video I made of it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1txre3rqpM i got these at frys electronics, I haven't seen them online yet, but I have been talking with an online dealer trying to get him to start selling them. i was thinking about that mod as well, it may work, but I'm not sure, I think the ir beam signal is piggy backed on one of the 2 channels, it may not have an actual 3rd channel. Im not sure about the airhogs version though, One of the girls that works for airhogs told me they had invented a 3 channel version of the picoo z, so theirs may be a true 3 channel version out their. plantraco has some amazingly small 3 and 4 ch recivers, but it would take a lot of work to get one to work on a micro heli. http://www.plantraco.com/

i love my dragon fly some indoor and outdoor night flying video of it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=URwiWH34QpI wowwee has a new set of these comming out, I saw a video screen at the 2008 ces with one flying on it, it was almost hovering. I don't know which one it was but I think it was the new fairy or dragon version. It was flying in a very small space and the wings wear flapping faster then the dragonfly version. in this video about the wowwee bladestar (which is extremly cool, I want one) you can see the video screen behind the guy, look at it at the end of the video, you can see a new ornithopter flying in a small room, it looks like a bird hovering. If you look at the table with the bladestars on it you will notice a few ornithopters their. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKiMroDNv6c

RE: free Apache body for micro gear fairy/picoo z/havoc heli
the havoc blades wouldn't work on that heli. I've seen those around but I've never flown one. $27 isn't a bad deal on it. It's a 3 channel coaxial, so you would be able to control it much better then a havoc or a picoo z it will be able to hover to a degree, and it will be able to move forward, and stop as well as spin You are going to be stuck with the blades it has, so make sure you can get replacment blades of the same sort if they break. you could probably use the blades from an airhogs reflex on it. hear is a link that will translate that German canopy page. http://www.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ultraleichtpilot.de%2Fbau.htm&langpair=de%7Cen&hl=en&ie=UTF8 click on "buy me" at the bottom of the page wear it says. If something should not be, as expected, let us talk about it. Mail If the construction is something unclear or beside it, f poke me with a mail The hulls, you can "buy me" Or right click on "buy me" and save the E-mail address he is pretty quick to answer e-mails. the canopies are pretty expensive, but they are supposed to be pretty high quality. I'm pretty sure he is just a model enthusiast, not a company, so you will be dealing directly with the guy who makes the canopies.

ok hear are some pictures of the new laser tag micro gear helicopters from frys, ecoman item number ec10147 for 39.99 i should have video up soon. they fly great and they have a bunch of cool new features, like they can now be either channel a,b,or c instead of always being on the same channel. It also has what they call an air brake , basically the helicopter stops moving forward when you start to land making it land very smoothly.

RE: free Apache body for micro gear fairy/picoo z/havoc heli
The picco z is made by silverlit, the havoc heli is made by air hogs, air hogs licensed the technology from silverlit so they are almost the same helicopter, If you live in the us, you should get the havoc, it is sold at walmart, toys r us, target sells the apache havoc. The fairy, which i put the apache canopy on is made by micro gear and syma, it is sold at frys and online. i personally like it because it is easy to fix and the plastic canopy can be easily removed and replaced with others. However, the havoc version 2 as well as the air hogs apache have new software controlling their tail, so they will be more stable then a picco z. The picco z is usually sold in the European and Asian market, and the havoc heli is usually sold in the american market.

rendering the cg took longer then animating it, each render was maybe 8 or 12 hours. I have seen a new tail prop out their with 3 blades on it, apparently it comes with the new micro gear version of the fairy, I have also heard of upgraded tail software in the havoc apache and the havoc version 2, it is supposed to give you greater control over the tail, I wounder if one of those chips could be soldered into the fairy heli frame .

RE: free Apache body for micro gear fairy/picoo z/havoc heli
I was sent a syma fairy from blasteronline.com to make a commercial for them, it had an extra chip on the front of the board, I noticed it didn’t need to be trimmed every flight and I wonder if that chip had something to do with it. I also heard the new havoc apache heli has updated tail software that is supposed to be much more stable. I think those chip designs may be making it into these mini Hughes helis as well. I made another apache with the desert paint job, and I stole the wings from the picoo z tollbox paper apache, they look much cooler. But I think I used to much glue because it only flies for about 4 min now, but all the extra weight and the new wings make it fly better then it ever has before, it looks really scale in the air now, I have some video, I’ve just got to do some editing on it then I’ll post it. I’m so glad I have my micro heli, without it I would be suffering from serious heli withdrawal every day.

I have seen a guy using a homemade rotor on his picoo z, and I remember the videos of the first picoo z that was totally homemade, I think he used cf sheets for his rotor, but I know my skills aren't up to that challenge yet. Then again I may be selling myself short. I finished my coast guard rescue paper body, it looks better then it flies. I think I'm going to try an md 500 next but i need to get some Styrofoam roof insulation because paper just wouldn't cut it. As for tail rotors I've killed a few tails myself, my last one to die was on a 6 channel, it died just as I said to my brother " I wounder what would happen if my tail rotor died" i guess you shouldn't tempt fate while flying.

Thats actually what I was wondering, if a set of blades could be made that are the negative of the normal blades, so that both blades could spin in opposites directions canceling out the torque. I don't know if all the picoo z rotors out their turn the same direction, their may be a company making a clone that turns in the opposite direction. This is the desert paint job for the apache, The texture was from a tank and modified, it's ok but I'll try to do a better one.

Their was another pilot who made a foam Huey, and it looked really sweet, my personal favorite so far is the Chinook, but both of its rotors turn in the same direction It would be nice if someone made a picoo z or a clone with a rotor that turns in the opposite direction.
