RE: King Kobra build by TWN
I have just completed a King Kobra, just about ready to fly, did the balancing tonight and it came out spot on the test flight CG point that Sig lists 5 - 5/16 inch fron the wing front with the battery located about wing center. My set up is fixed gear trike O.S.91 fx(has a fairly heavy muffler in comparison to a 61fx),16 Ounce tank, digital Spektrum servos for elevator, rudder and ailerons, standard servos for throttle and nose wheel steering,I dont like Sig's rudder pushrod ideas much so I went with a seperate dedicated pull pull rudder servo in the rear fuselage accessed by a hatch which is a more responsive and better rudder centering. I have enjoyed the build,I think it will be a blast to fly! I just hope our grass runway hasnt got too many divets as there isnt much clearance with a 13x8 TF powerpoint prop! Hope these stats might help someone if planning out rough weights for motors and pull pulls etc in regards balancing,I found the rear mounted servo helped with my balance a lot!

RE: Sig Kougar Build
The Kougar is a great build, thats for sure. Yours looks exactly the same as mine did at the same stages of the build so I am sure it will turn out as a credit to you.At the very least it will be a model you created![:D] as opposed to someone in China or Vietnam doing it for money not love. My tips are to spend lots of time on the final preparation before covering, fill every ding and scratch and pin hole and when you think you got them all go over it again and I bet you will find others you missed! Make sure your wing sheeting is sanded as smooth as you can get it,if you have ridges in the glued pieces of sheeting they will stick out like lights on a xmas tree under plastic coverings. Also when trimming the canopy to fit do it gradually as if you take too much off it wont mate neatly with the plastic turtle deck. Good luck, here is a pic of mine, just covering its bigger brother the King Kobra at the moment Mark

RE: Painting Monokote?
I have the issue and the feature is geared towards painting for electric powered planes (not surprisingly as most MAN reviews seem to be electric powered of late to my disappointment!) and I think they are painting with Testors Modelmaster paints, so yes read it and take in all about prepping the covering for the paint but remember you need to use something fuel resistant for glow.I use epoxy enamels ala Rusoleum or we have a few other variants down here in Australia, all the same. Just DONT paint Lustrekote over an epoxy enamel ever or else really really nasty stuff happens! hehe and yes I found that out the hard way but at least if you do dont worry the whole finish will peel off easily like a banana skin ready to redo! DOH!

RE: The Long Awaited Ultra Sport 60 Build Thread
I am building a Sig King Kobra at the moment and will put rudder and elev servos is the fuselage towards the back under a hatch with a seperate nosewheel steering servo at the stock servo position, these mods are nothing to do with cg requirements but because i want to use a pull-pull on the rudder as I dislike Sig's requirement of a kink in the stock rudder pushrod.I have no idea what that will do for the cg outcome but with a 91fx OS I think it will be nose heavy anyway. At least i will then have a nice hatch to enable me to access the receiver battery should I still have to put it down the back.It will put me at ease knowing I will have no rudder control problems with this setup.

RE: The Long Awaited Ultra Sport 60 Build Thread
The tail servos would def put the cg back yes,and would have also been behind the cg in the fuse position as well, depends on the weight of the servos and servo mounting plates, if they are not too far off the weight of a 5 cell receiver battery then putting that where the servos are now and using stock servo position would have been similar, but at least now he can play around with the battery position to get it right, but if its a moderately heavy build then getting that cg moved an inch just by battery in the nose alone prob will struggle, have found its deceptive just how much weight it can take to get that cg moved by an inch at times, unless the plane is fairly lightly built.

RE: Sig King Cobra
Thanks Wildbill and Smoknrv4, they are Robart strut covers and really are worth fitting for the look, have the larger set ready for the KK when the time comes,we fly off short grass but the suface underneath is not that smooth and it really seems to bring most mech retracts unstuck at some stage, might be the first flight or the twentieth but I like to not have to worry about with fixed gear.So the KK will also be fixed(besides I am sure an OS91 will take care of a little wheel drag in flight hehe) I have an Ultrasport 60 next on the build queue after the KK which I intend to put retracts in,not mech tho probably Robart 605HD pnuematics or some Aussie made pnuematics from Custom Retracts in Australia which look to be mighty tuff, but that will be a tail dragger and not a foam wing so I will brave it with that bird. So whats the consesus with the pushrods for a KK? Solid or some sort of GoldNrod's? I used solid on the Kougar but might go with bracing inside the fuselage and some GoldNrod's for elev and rudder....

RE: Four Stroke clicking
All I can say is thank heavens for RCU and these forums! I noticed last night that my brand new ASP 91fs was making the same clicking sound, traced it to the pushrods riding over the cam as has been mentioned, which apparently is nothing to worry about when new, only thing is I also have a brand new unmounted ASP 120fs that doesnt have the noise and neither did my OS 70 Ultimate or my Saito 56fs. Anyway I'm not so worried now, just gonna run in the motor and see if it sorts itself out. Thanks for this thread tho....... Mark

RE: Ultracote & Monocote
I have done a few builds now, started with Ultracote and found it is easy to work with, especially for those starting out, iron temp seems slightly less critical with Ultracote and it does love shrinking down around wingtips without a single wrinkle or crease once you learn to add a bit more heat. Now recently I have expanded to using Monokote also, this is where it gets interesting.... I bought a roll off Flat Tan Monokote and used it cover the bottom of the wings of a Hog Bipe, was not really impressed as I had to fight with it all the way,but I did end up getting it to work and it turned out good, now that is with the new Monokote thats being sold now. I figured I would give it the benefit of the doubt and bought off Ebay around a dozen brand new rolls of circa 1991 Super Monokote in various colours from a vendor who was selling up for a long gone hobby retailer who had closed up shop but kept the stock in mothballs. Wow what a lucky strike that was as this Super Monokote is lovely stuff to work with in my opinion and does shrink easily, and it really looks to have a far more depth to its sheen. I have been using it in conjuction with Ultracote on my models ever since, only drawback is eventually I am gonna run out of the old rolls and I might be tempted to try some new Monokote but I think I will be disappointed with that. So if you see anyone selling old Super Monokote still new in rolls buy it and try it! Here is a pic of my last build, a Sig Kougar, white Ultracote, yellow Ultracote, the rest is the Monokote mentioned, some done with windex method.

A sheet of Homasote on a used hollow door has been my choice to build on,inspected a lot of doors tho with a level before I found one perfectly flat, beware they do vary quite a lot.Pinning is never a problem and they don't work loose or pull up easily unless you want to remove them.

Have built... 1. Sig Somethin Extra 2. Midwest Starduster 3. Bridi Super Kaos KIA RIP 4. Sig Liberty Sport 5. Sig Hog Bipe Framed up Ace 4.120 monoplane still in progress Putting finishing touches to a Sig Kougar ready to fit out for radio gear, bout a week from being finished if my paintwork is ok after I take masking off! under the bench I have a Sig King Kobra which is my next build then followed by Great Planes Ultrasport 60 which is stashed away awaiting a retract purchase decision. Also have an NIB Top Flite Hot Kanary kit for next year. I love building as much as flying, they go hand in hand for me,also have ARF's like a Venus II etc that would be just too much work to build for the money, but nothing feels better than maidening a plane that you have crafted youself from pieces of wood! Cheers guys, good luck with all your builds. Mark

RE: More new Seagull ARF's coming soon.
Thats great news for you modellers stateside Thomas,I still don't know much more about the Mew Gull yet. I was of the understanding that they would start arriving downunder around Juneish and retailers here have been taking preorders. However the founder/CEO of Seagull passed away a few weeks ago, which is very sad news as he was apparently a very avid modeller who was behind most of the Seagull designs,so it will be interesting to see what happens with Seagull and their venture into these classic design ARF's into the future! Who knows... Cheers Mark

RE: New Seagull Edge 540
I think Horizon have stated somewhere here on RCU that they don't bring all the Seagull line in to the Sates. At first I thought it might be that they didnt bring over planes that might take sales away from similar Hangar 9 planes but now I'm not so sure as that doesn't explain why they havent plans as yet to import other Seagull planes like the new big Decathlons,Texans,Gee Bee etc from Seagull or Phoenix for that matter that we seem to get down here in Oz and the UK guys get also.I guess it all comes down to the distributor, maybe someone needs to get some numbers of modellers and do some serious lobbying over there.

RE: More new Seagull ARF's coming soon.
Yeah it's a big T28,think its a bigger version of the 60 size they already have out there, but it is set up for retracts.Guess the colour scheme would be the same but who would know? I can't work out why Black Horse models don't have better marketing/promotional material out there for the buyers.I have read a few U.S and U.K mags and it's the same as down here, never a glossy ad of a Black Horse model to be seen, just some cartoony internet pics sent out with them to distributors that certainly dont do the models justice.I have the 60 size chipmunk and it looks beautiful in real life. It takes a mag or someone on RCU to post some pics before you can really get an idea of how one of their models really presents itself! I think someone's shooting themselves in the foot by not marketing them properly. I mean the big T28 and chipmunk and Gilmore Lion are available to buy down under, but who has seen a picture of them? How can a retailer sell them online when the buyers are completely in the dark????? Just a gripe, tho I am sure the planes will speak for themselves I think once the wheels start turning..... Here is a link Tailskid to a UK site, bout the only info I have found so far,its at the bottom of the page,at least there is some details. RE: BH T-28 Assembly
Hi everyone, have been following this thread with interest, for those that wish the T28 did come with retracts well sounds like those wishes have been answered. Here in Australia the new Black Horse 1.20 size T28 has hit the shelves and it looks like its recommended for 26cc gas or 1.20 2 stroke glow.Details are sketchy as its so new but it is retract ready and supposedly if you want air retracts Black Horse have an air retract set to fit of ther own. Just fyi guys, love anyone who knows some more about these new planes to chime in,no reviews around obviously as yet but the owner of one of the our hobby shops was talking to me on the phone while he was staring at one new in box and he said it looked awesome!!!! Here is a link to about the only info I can dig up,it's from a UK website the new T28 is down the bottom of the page, not sure if its available there yet or not? RE: More new Seagull ARF's coming soon.
You are right Tailskid, as pictured in that manual those clevise and horn setups would give control differential, but I doubt that whats really in the kit as pictured,if Seagull is the same as Black Horse models (sister companies)from the kits I've put together the threaded on nylon horn that goes onto the stud is longer than pictured and actually does reach to the centreline of the hinged joint, well thats what should happen anyway!!!! Maybe the first person who gets a Mew Gull can let us know.BTW I heard a June date for these kits to come out. Trouble is down here in Australia the new Black Horse 50cc sized Gilmore Lion,50cc Chipmunk and 1.20 sized T28 Trojan (all large scale versions of existing BH ARF's) have hit the shelves already, and the owner of one hobby shop I chatted with said he had the Trojan sitting in front of him and it looked awesome!!! So I'm soooooooo tempted..... Oh and they also have released a 1.20 sized AT-6 Texan! Too many to great models to choose from, not sure which way to go,its so early and no reviews so far to go by...

More new Seagull ARF's coming soon.
Hi everybody, very exciting new releases coming soon from Seagull from what I have discovered, not to mention that of course recently there have been 2 Sparrowhawks, the 1.20 size Spacewalker,Gee Bee and a .91 and 1.20+ Decathlons and AT-6 Texans which I have already seen here on the shelves of hobby shops down under.... A quick peruse of seagullmodels.com website(which is slow but worth persevering with) and also confimed on the modelengines website (modelengines.com.au) shows .91 and 1.20 size Cubs,a .61 size yellow Sparrowhawk(nice!!!).61 and .91 size Cap232's, a 1.20 size Aussie marked PC9,and a 1.20 sized Dewoitine D520 WWll warbird. But of all those mentioned the pics of a 1.50 size Percival Mew Gull make have got me excited the most!!![:D] I can't wait to see these models hit the shelves,Seagull sure have been busy of late,I have never seen so many new ARF's from a manufacturer in such a short time!
