Do I need a seperate harness if I have 5.5mm connectors??
Ive got the Castle 200HV with 5.5mm connectors, male on the positive lead and female on the negitive. If my lipo packs have the female on the positive and male on the negitive, could I hook one positive and negitive lead on the lipos together, then one lipo positive into the esc and the other lipo negitive into the ESC, thus eliminating the need for a harness? Are you confused yet?

2 5s packs for 10s question...
DIdnt know if I should post here or in the electric boat section. But heres the question. Ive got the Castle 200HV ESC with 5.5mm connectors already installed. I was going to make a wire harness, but then I was thinking do I even need it? My ESC wire are long enough to reach the packs. On the ESC, the positive wire has the 5.5mm male connector and the negitive has the female. If each 5s pack has a female connector on the positive and a male on the negitive, could i just simply plug the ESC positive male into one lipo positive female, then ESC negitive female to the other lipo negitive male, then just hook up the lipo negitive male and lipo positive female together, thus eliminating the need for a seperate harness? Sorry if thats confusing.

RE: STRETCHING A HULL...IS IT POSSIBLE ??? Old Graupner Systems Cat build
This is awesome. The Systems cat was my very first rc boat in the early to mid 90s, and I still have it (at my dads house anyways.) I have to correct Rebel Bay, as the original drive was acutally a dual motor that was geared, and coupled to a steerable outdive, like pictured above. The Hydrospeed single motor may have been added in later runs of this model. Good luck on this build!! Cant wait to see the finished product!

2.4ghz receiver antenna question...
My futaba 2.4ghz FASST antenna on my receiver is very short, and its quite hard to run to the outside of the hull. Do I have to have the antenna outside of the hull? Im seeing more and more people run just a short antenna tube right off the radio box cover, and it never exits the hull. Im assuming its safe since ive seen a few do it, but im curious is anyone has run into a range problem doing this? Any thoughts? I would love to rid myself of an external antenna tube on the outside of my hull.

Need help on 40c, 50c, 65+c ratings..
I dont completely understand the discharge "C rating" on lipos, and am looking for the window of safety for my setup. Single motor 58" cat. Motor is the Nemesis Gold 7000 series (Leo 56xx), 7000w, 900kv. ESC is the Castle 200HV version 2, and for now, the prop is a X450. For my 8s setup, Im looking at getting a couple 4s packs, 5000mah at 40c. But I know once I get used to that, I will want to try 10s. Most of the 5s lipos Im finding are running a higher c rating at 5000mah. Can I go 45c or 50c withuot frying anything? How high can I go on the C rating, and better yet, how do I determine what the limits of my setup are?

RE: RE:
I got everything from Chris today, and im as happy as a fat kid in a candy store. Got everything that we discussed, wired and plumbed..ready to install, all at the price he quoted me. Im not sure what all the bad vibes about FLM are about, frankly they dont concern me. Chris Fine is A++ in my book, and I will do business with him again. I'll post build pics as I get started this week. Getting back to lipo position, Chris also agrees on the center tunnel is the place for them, so I will hand that to you SRT10. Now, how would you mount them so they dont move around? Velcro? Or build some trays with straps?

How would YOU do 8s?
If you plan to run 8s, are you gonna run 4 2s packs, or 2 4s packs? Its going in a big boat, so room inside isnt a problem. Other than added weight with 4 packs, is there much of a drawback? Whats your preference?

RE: RE:
Just had a few convos with Chris at fineline, he answered all my questions and has been cool as can be to deal with. We went over the specifics of each part, and heres what I ordered. Motor: Nemisis Gold 7000 series(900kv), ESC: Castle Hydra Ice2 HV, FDM 5" rail mounts w ESC mount, and a x450 prop....already wired and hosed...ready to drop in, all at a price I couldnt pass up. Now I need to find me a couple packs of 4s and 5s lipos, a charger and Im ready to go. Ill start posting pics of the mods to the hull to waterproof it after Labor Day weekend. Im still looking at different options or ideas to mount the lipos. At first I wanted one in each sponson, then SRT chimed in saying placing them in the center on the tunnel was better....but I still dont know why. Dont you want the COG low in a cat? If you were building a 58" FE cat w/singler inrunner, are your lipos going in the sponsons or on the center tunnel?!?

RE: RE:
SRT, Im really not trying to get in a pi$$ing match here over who knows more. Clearly the guy in that vid has a setup that works with 10s runnin a 80a esc to a 56xx motor. But how reliable is this? That is the only person Ive seen run such a low amp esc with those lipos and motor combo. I understand the kv is low, but is this how you would do it if it were your $$? Plus, dude in the video did kind of a "throw it together" job if you ask me. Lipos dont look secured at all, it looks like he used packing tape to seal the air inlet on the hatch...and hes wearing white crocs! Just plain shotty work IMO. I do however appreciate the other options out there. Although a Neu motor itself costs as much as I what im willing to put into this intire conversion, its just not really the angle I was looking at. FDM wants $764 for his conversion...mount, motor, shaft adapter, and esc. Im trying to stay under that with parts of the same quality and performance. Now that Ive figured out how to run with a 3/16 prop, like almost everyone is doing, I want to concentrate on options that the other FE boat guys use. 10s on an 80a esc i dont think would come highly recommended....atleast from the weeks of reading ive done. To answer your other comment, my mind isnt set on anything yet. Im not writting off your options. You're just the first person to mention such a set up, thats all. Now, can you please elaborate on its better to have the lipos in the center of the hull vs down in each of the sponsons? I just figured the boats that have them in the center simply dont have room for them in the sponsons. Almost all of the big twin cat setups ive seen have everything as low as possible. Im all ears!

RE: RE:
Well, even if it does work, Im just gonna bite the bullet and do it right the first time. For ESC's, im between the Castle Hydra Ice 200HV and the HIFEI Swoardfish Pro 240. The HEFEI is $90 cheaper...but theres not a whole lot on the web about it...so still trying to confirm if thats a good choice. Motor will be either the Leo 5698 (835kv), or the TP Power 5692 (780kv)...also another $90 cheaper than the Leo. FineDesign will be getting my order on the 5" rail mount shortly. Chris at FDM suggests a 50mm prop, regardless of power options. Im thinking thats a tad small. Dude on youtube was runnin a X462, gps at 69mph. But the prop will be last on the list of purchases. Still in planning stages now. Will run it as gas setup for the last time at the end of Aug. Then the teardown, ordering and build begins. Anyone else care to chime in on ESC or motor options that I may have overlooked? Again, plan to run 8-12s. And also...how should I properly mount the LiPos. I want one in each sponson. Im not putting them in front of the motor on the tunnel. COG will be too high. Thinking a couple fiberglass plates epoxied in with, velcro holding them batts in place with straps going around them? I want simple, affordable and effective.

RE: RE:
There are 3 videos on youtube of the Venom cat converted to brushless power. Search "segad brushless" to find 2 of them. Anyways, got the drive situation figured out. Im running a warehouse hobbies drive...cable, stuff tube, solderless drive ferrule and strut. I talked to Tony at WHH today, and hes gonna cut me a 1/4" drive shaft, and have one of his guys cut the tip down to 3/16ths. He just did one of these a week ago for another customer of his. He said hes gonna have a handful of these crafted this week that will work in his strut, but fit a 3/16 prop for those who want make the switch from gas to electric...fyi. Heres a pic of the current set up.

RE: RE:
Im thinking thats the route to go. Hughey makes a 1/4" cable and stub with the 3/16th tip. Im using the warehouse hobbies cat strut with solderless cable ferrule (4.5" prop shaft) now. Its a free floating setup, and works great. However the WWH website says this strut is designed for their 4.5" prop shaft. No mention that it works with a traditional setup. Do I need a new strut in order the run the new cable?

RE: RE:
Also, with my potential set up options listed above, what prop should I use? I've got 1/4" hardware, and I really dont want to change it out. The octura X467 looks to be the smallest .250 bore prop available that I can find. Im currently running the 6717 3 blade on the gas setup. Could I still use that, or is that too much?

"Gas" King of Shaves brushless conversion...
Ive got the 58" Venom King of Shaves(gas), and now I want a brushless setup. I know this isnt the best hull to use for FE, but with a little elbow grease over the winter, it should be worth it. Ive already done a lot to this boat to make it better. Upgraded steering system with custom radio box tray and 2.4GHz, all new Warehouse Hobbies drive hardware (flex shaft, stuffing tube, strut and 1/4" drive), and reglassed the inside of the hull on seems and stringers. Engine and pipe are upgraded too, but moot in this thread. Ive seen a few FE conversions on youtube, and I want to build one, too. I'm new to the FE side of things. Ive done a lot of reading and research...and before biting the bullet on the upgrade, I want to make sure Im going about this correctly. I know finedesignrc makes a conversion for these, but I feel I can do better for a bit less $$. Plus, what ive read about FD in this forum alone scares me a bit. I want to run a single inrunner, 8-12s compatable. Now my questions.. 1. Motor mount. I want to use the 5" stringers, but the only compatable motor mount I can find is the 5" rail mount from fine design. Are there any others out there that I missed? 2. Motor. I've been back and forth between the Leo 5692(730kv) and the Leo 5698(835kv). Then I found the TP Power 5692(780kv) at fightercatracing.com for a lot less than the Leo's. Has anyone run this brand, or specific motor? 3. ESC. My top 3 are the Castle Hydra Ice 200HV, HIFEI Swordfish Pro 240, and Turnigy Aquastar 240. I read a lot on the Castle, but not so much on the other 2. Im assuming Castle is the best, since its $100 more than the other 2 I mentioned. Im not shooting for any SAW records here, just looking to make a reliable FE out of a hull I really like and have put a bit of work and $$ into already. Help me make this happen! Im open to suggestions on everything at this point, except the "get a different boat to do this with" part. :)

Anyhoo, look again there homeslice, top of the main page, you will see the model names....way on the right >, you will see mystic sport. Any Central RC Hobbies 54
I love that centralrchobbies.com finally made the Mystic in a 54" size. I want to build it as a twin brushless setup. Main question is what outdrives would you use? The 1/4" adjustable cat stinger drives from kintecracing.com look awesome, and comes in much cheaper than the german brands, but i fear 1/4" will be too big in diameter. However, thats the only size that have the drive length even close to what i would need. The MHZ guys are using 3/16" on their 1360mm(53.5") mystics, with a drive length of 190mm, but theres no way im paying that much. The 1/4" kintecs are only 140mm in length. Im all about function over form. I dont need exact replicas, although the do look good. If not kintecracing, are there any other companies that make something that would work around the same price point?

HOLY CRAP!!!! I'm loving that Zippkits!! Those prices are unbeatable. I just loaded up on a few things I needed, and a few things I dont. The prices are just too good!! Cant wait to finish my KOS. Once my 1/4" drive is all done, its off to the lake. Just gotta figure out what path to take for a power upgrade. Lots of options available. 29cc looking better each day. Gizmotors looking good, but also thinking about letting Tony have a crack at the zen clone first. I read about some dude owning a Segad with a 29cc Gizmotor and 6717 running allday in the mid to high 60's. YES PLEASE!!! Decisions decisions.

RE: New GAS Boats from Venom!!
Hey KOSers/Segaders! Its been a while. This is where i was at last summer. The hull is currently stripped out again. Im installing all Warehouse Hobbies running gear. Stuffing tube, 1/4" flex shaft, 1/4" strut. I'll be running a 6717. Need to figure out how to balance and sharpen that. Also thinking about sending the venom 26cc into Tony to see what he can do with it. 29cc was mentioned in our last convo. :) I'll post current pics once she all back together and ready for 2011.

I put the K in KOS! (pics included)
Done so far... *Reinforced hull and strings with fiberglass, sealed the stock watercooling holes in left sponson, painted interior with Duplicolor bed liner paint. *Reworked radio box, custom servo tray with carbon fiber vinyl, Dubro steering pushrods, WHH throttle cable. *Futaba FASST 3PM-MX, Hobbico CS150 steering servo, Hobbico CS126 throttle servo, Duratrax 1600 6.0V. *Stock engine with WHH 2" band tuned pipe, Silicone exhaust rings, Walbro WT-257 carb, WHH teflon carb gaskets, WHH neoprene water line. *RCR Dual pickup rudder *Single fuel line Up Next... * All WHH gear, M6 engine, driveshaft and 1/4" strut. Still not sure what prop to spin. M6 has some high RPMs, thinking a 6519 or 6719. Not sure yet. Any suggestions?
