RE: What Aircraft are you installing your DLE20
My DLE20 is currently doing the job in a Great Planes Hawk P-6E. Very nice match. The ARF has been re-introduced by Great Plane for late Jan delivery. At a 'mere' $479.00 !!!

Thanks for the input on throttle linearity "fixes". A1PCFIXER, I'll try your curve next. I'll be using the DLE20 in my next scale project, a Dynaflite Fly Baby (with a "few" mods). Thanks to all, Rich TeamVortex Aviation

RE: NEW DLE 20cc Gasser! (Data & Links 1st Post)
Exactly. HP is simply torques times rpm and a constant. Match the rpm to your airplane and have a ball. Also, everyone keep in mind that static thrust is just that, static. Unless you can fly at zero airspeed, be careful. I'm using the data recording capability of the Castle ICE ESC to get flight data and so far it's been interesting.

Charlie, I didn't take thrust measurements, but mine got 8000 rpm on the MA16/8/3. I get about 8800 on an APC 16/8/2. Rich TeamVortex Aviation

RE: P-6E Curtis hawk (build thread)
Thanks, I've converted mine to gas stopper and I'm breaking in a DLE-20. So far looks good. I was flying it with an OS160 (had one), but it was way too much power. The DLE-20 is turning a Zinger 16/6-10 at 7500 after only about 30 minutes on the test stand. Looks good. Thanks, Rich

RE: P-6E Curtis hawk (build thread)
Can anyone tell me if the fuel tank and stopper in the "kit" are OK to use with gasoline fuel. I know the lines need to be replaced, but the stopper looks just like the gas ones from DuBro, just a different diameter.

RE: KAOS AND RELATED PLANES AND INFO
Guys, There are two classes of SPA Pattern airplanes. The standard class is anything before 1/1/76. The Antique class is before 1/1/67. The Atlanta contest that I was referring to is for Antique and is on June 26 - 27. There is also a standard SPA contest on June 12-13. The Kaos (1968-69)would be legal for the standard, but not the Antique. The Ugly Stik (1965) would be legal for both of them. Rich

RE: KAOS AND RELATED PLANES AND INFO
That was why I asked the question. I had hoped that, since the plans were published in February 1970, the plane may have been flying early enough to qualify. My research on Kimbro's Deception lead to a first flight in 1975 and first published in 1978. Seems that the Kaos was was flying in the late 60's, but not early enough. Oh well, I have a Kaos (original Bridi kit, 30+ years old) but can't fly it at the Atlanta Vintage SPA contest. Guess that I'll have to go to my back-up Ugly Stik for the contest. Thanks anyway, Rich

RE: KAOS AND RELATED PLANES AND INFO
This question may have been answered in the thread already, but I didn't see it. The original Kaos was published in the Feb 1970 issue of RCM, so it was flying in the late 60's. My question is: When did the Kaos fly for the first time? I want to fly one in an SPA Antique event next month, but it may be too new? My Kaos is from a Bridi original kit, fabric covered and uses a Veco 61 Lee Custom engine and 11/7 wood props on a Kraft Gold Medal am radio. (New servos of course). Help!! Thanks, Rich

RE: Electric's Phased Out of SPA
I just maidened my electric Killer Chaos. the system is Scorpon 4025-10, Castle ICE 75 ESC, Turnigy 6s5000 battery, Xoar 13/7 wooden e-prop. The plane weighs 6 1/2 lbs ready for flight (battery fully charged). First 3 flights observations. Excellent power (10.5 lbs thrust), true unlimited vertical flight, wonderful downline braking, great landings. Overall an excellent staring point. it does the SPA sportsman pattern using about 2100 - 2300 mah. Too bad I can't actually use it. I like it a lot better than my OS61FX powered Deceptions. I'll use it in AMA pattern this year. I disagree with the SPA decision to the point that I'll stop competing in regular SPA and only fly in the Antique class. Any organization that allows virtually unlimited deviations in design and modern 4 stroke engines, but not electrics is too hypocritical for my taste. SPA is the only vintage organization that doesn't allow electric and it's only due to the one voice of Mickey Walker and his personal prejudices. Too bad and it's why SPA will never grow.

RE: Best prop for 61fx on Chipmunk. need help
I fly with the SPA and have been experimenting with the OS61FX in a 7 1/4 lb Deception on 15% Cool Power fuel turning between 10,500 (Xoar) and 11,000 (APC). The thrust numbers are 9.4 (APC) and 9.6 (Xoar) pounds of static thrust. The vertical performance with the APC is basically unlimited. I would start with the APC since the Xoar is wooden. Good luck Rich

RE: Deception Rescue
Mitch, I flew with the OS91 Surpass for awhile and then switched back to two stroke. Either the OS61FX or the OS55AX will work really well. Go for about a 12/8 APC and you'll be ahppy at a lot less $$$. I'm currently flying my pink and blue Deception as my prime plane. I'm going to redo the red one back as a taildragger for our local grass field. I prefer to have multiple copies of one airplane so that my practice sessions are good for either plane. Happy New Year and have fun. Rich ps: I'm having a ball flying my reproduction Beachcomber. I'm not sure if it's not actually better......

RE: Deception Rescue
Hi, This is Rich Ernst. The Deception photo is my airplane. I tried the taildragger arrangement for a while. While it worked just fine, I like a tricycle arrangement for better takeoff and landing scores. Your choice. I built a new plywood mount for the CF gear from Bolly, and added a steerable tailgear with springs to the rudder control. It's a bit of work since the Deception rudder does not go all the way to the bottom of the fuselage, but can be done. Good luck, it's a very good flying airplane. I've got two right now. Hey, I just got into this thread. Thanks for the photos of my two Deceptions that are flying in the SPA events. Boy, those photos sure do get around. The plane flies really well and there are a couple more in the works down here. Both of mine are now using OS61FX's for power on 12/8 APC props. Rich TeamVortex Brooksville, FL
