RE: Great Planes Escapade .40 ARF
ORIGINAL: irdabrit Just noticed that Tower has increased the price of the Escapade to $129.99 now. I bought my original one for $98 with a coupon that brought it down to around $80, and the second one was $100. I think this will be my last one. I would sell this one now but I've already glued the wings. Only thing left to do is put in the battery, route the wiring and fly on Sunday. In my opinion this was a steal at $98 but for the extra money I think there are better planes out there. I had quality control issues with both kits I bought but Tower Hobbies are awesome and came through both times for me. On the other hand I have some spares if anyone needs them; two sets of wheel pants I can't use because my bumpy field would rip them off, and a spare set of landing gear.
Hey, I'd like your wheel pants. mine broke when it hit the trees. Pl PM me.

RE: Flew new Escapade
This plane Escapade 40 size is fun. I had it first installed w/ a Magnum 40 XL, which was ok for pattern fly. Since I still have Evolution 45 engine that comes with a P-51 PTS, I put it on the Escapade. This engine streams like a little monster, turning prop 10x7 at 15,500's rpm. My field is rough so 11 sized prop hit the bumpy runway on take off and landing. I have not flown w/ this configuration yet though it promises FAST. If you guys put the battery BELOW the fuel tank then the CG is balanced. By the way, I do not use rechargable battery for the receiver; I use 4 AA battery in a Radio Shack battery tray. This configuration enable me to fly for many times. I flew over 10 flights a day for a whole weekend and the battery indicator still show top greenlight. I love to watch the landing. It sinks nicely and does not drop wing. It touches down on main gear and continues to roll w/ the tail gear still up, everytime. Enjoy yours....and don't forget to do pre-flight checks. Some guy had the elevator torn away in flight in a full speed dive and a spectacular carnage.

RE: Great Planes Escapade .40 ARF
ORIGINAL: hsukaria I ripped out the L/G off my Escapade last weekend. It is the 3rd time it happened. The landing gear block is cracked in half because of the 2-piece landing gear puts a bending motion on the center of the mounting block. I'm going to carve out a new block and am thinking of buying a one-piece landing gear. I don't like the 2-piece L/G. All my planes pre-date the 2-piece craze or I converted over to 1-piece L/G.
Hey, I did mine this morning too, but in a traumatic way. My engine opens and closes throtlle by itself and I still wonder why it does. Anyway the plane suddenly speeds up out of control while taxiing. It veers off the field, hits the curb, break both landing gears and hit a tree. All I could do is trying to keep it from airborne and steer it clear off people. To my amazement, the plane had minor damage. Besides the broken landing gear and some tore off cover, and broken prop, it still intact. Anyone gives me any idea why the glow engine throttle arm moves by itself. It's Magnum 40 XL engine. I used JR radio channel 18 and JR servos.

RE: Great Planes Escapade .40 ARF
I hope your 60 size Escapade flies well too. It has a cowl so surely a leaner look. I use Alkaline battery in all my planes. Just buy a $2 battery tray, solder the z connector wire, and 4 AA batteries, then you can fly all day worry free about the receiver battery. I have a Voltwatch meter in the canopy. It stays green with this setting even after I fly 12-14 sorties. I hate the maintenance part of the rechargable battery and they don't last long for my flying day. The Escapade canopy does not seem to hold tight. I install my battery tray below the fuel tank where there is a hatch to cover it. I screwed the hatch down with 2 screws, put the fuel tank on top, and close the canopy. In this case I don't have to worry the battery pack falls out during an inverted maneuver if the canopy pops. I think this plane is a keeper. BTW, to those guys who still on the decision edge, check out Tower hobby today because it on sale for below $100. I hit my button when it was $109.

RE: Great Planes Escapade .40 ARF
I have looked at this plane for awhile and finally broke down to purchase. I can tell you that I am not regret my decision, because it's great built. The covering is among the tightest and gorgous classic looking. The plane goes together quick and straight forward. Here is what I found negative: The tail wheel. I just can't believe when I look at it. It is like you put a tooth pick size tail wheel assembly in a 6-7 lbs plane. I went ahead to install it anyway, just to test it strength. To my suspicion, it did not stand a chance in the grass field. It bent sideway and made my take off run, of course, sideway. Get rid of it; install some generic tail gear. I used one of my old gear that you had to stick it through the bottom of the rudder. In this case, DO NOT remove the Escapade rudder. Instead use the small piece of plastic connector that connects the retractable landing gear to the servo pull rod. Pull out the plastic poll at the rudder of the Escapade, but careful, you may damage the wood. Widen that hole and fit the connector in place, seal the hole with epoxy. The long tail of the tail gear should fit through the hole of the retract connector. The battery should fit in the BOTTOM tray BELOW the fuel tank. Knock out a hole in the firewall (which already laser marked) so the battery pack can stick out to fit better. The CG is automatically balanced. I flew mine with a Magnum XL 40 and a 10x6 wood prop. I hardly trim anything since it flies like on rail on the maiden, in the 10-15 mph wind. Landing is slow, contrary to some reports. I brought it in slow and it did not even drop a wing. 3 point landing was achieved.
ORIGINAL: _Tommy D Good luck trying to buy ANYTHING from American Pioneer. The don't return phone calls, much less E-Mails.
I can't agree with you more. I try to contact them with no success. By the way, Hobby People has it on sale for $149 so I did not waste my chance today. BH planes are excellent built like my Trojan size 60. This P51 even has flaps, which I been comparing with the Great Plane P51 blue nose. The GP P51 is a good alternative but it does not have flap and I am not even sure it has retract either. I'll power it with Magnum 0.91 4S, Airtronic servos and Bluebird retract servo.

RE: Lado retracts, do the really exist?
FINALLY RECEIVED my defective retract fixed. Thanks to Jeremy!! The express mail came last Friday. I tested and it worked great. I now have 2 pairs, one wide for the Top Flite Mustang, and one narrow for the Kyosho Mustang. The wait was horrible. I guess I am among the lucky ones. Good luck to the rest of you!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess I would jump on the band wagon. I got a pair of 60 narrow size, only to find out one of them never works. Email Doug, he was quick to respond "Send it back to me, I'll repair it". Too trustful I was, I sent it back. AND WAITING,....WAITING,...no response whatsoever to many emails. Even his phone is disconnected. What am I to do with only one retract, Doug? Stick it to your hole and retract it in? Peter
Hey Peter, I am not sure what electric motor is for it. I never fly an electric bird before. The nitro gas motor I use in size 46. It is easier if you install electric motor, since you don't have to mess with the carburator, which was a pain to put in place. You probably need to trim off the motor mount to fit your motor, but it's very easy; take you time. Since you don't have the weight of the gas tank, some lead weigh may be needed to balance the CG. With gas motor, it's right on, self balanced. I may still have the manual. Give me your email; I'll send it over. Matt.

RE: ARC Jupiter
ORIGINAL: albsurfer Thunder Tiger now has a Jupiter, Beaver, and Ready all available. You can find them on the TT Taiwan Corp website. I only checked the specs on the Jupiter and Beaver between TT & Modelfly. The specs are the same on both brands. The TT4U website doesn't list any of these, but they are available through some LHS and on-line distributors.
Hey Al, I am glad that they start selling these aircrafts in the U.S. After more than 40 flights, I can say that this aircraft is a joy to flight. My self-correction to my previous post is: it is quite an aerobatic. All loopy, rolly, upside down, outside loop, 4 point roll, hammer head, immelman, cuban 8,...are all possible with it. Things I found negative is that prop size 11 (11x7) will hit the ground on take off and landing. There is not much ground clearance when the tail raises. I broke a number of props size 11, and eventually change to size 10, then it flies supper, faster and no more broken props. Another thing is the landing block. It is very poorly designed. The block itself, they called it torpedo wall, is hollow. I installed it first with CA, which popped right out during ground test run. Next, I used epoxy, which held for a few first flights, then popped again during rough landing. Next, I screwed it in from both sides, which held on for a number of flights, and when it popped, it broke along the groove that housed the landing struts. Right now I use cable tights to tighen up around it, and brace it with wood blocks inside the fusalage. It looks bad, but works. I wish they redesign this torpedo wall landing block with "snap-on" fashion and that should hold much better than any glue, epoxy, or CA. Anyone who wishes to flight this plane should purchase some spare landing blocks. Otherwise, it's good plane. BTW, it handles winds very well. I flew it many times in wind speed over 30 mph when most of my buddies grounded their planes. The last one was in 35 mph wind gust, when I should give it more power on landing. Anyway, the wind pushed it to a tree. The wings pulled the middle wall out; and when it fell to the ground, the landing block popped. The wings and the fuse survived the accident without a scratch. The re-gluing and resetting took about 2 hours and she is ready to fly. WHATAPLANE!!.

RE: CMP Kits – Problems and Solutions
Rightly said! I maiden a size 50 CMP last Friday. The CG was at 75 mm from leading edge. It nosed over too easy and needed a lot of right rudder on take off. Once airborn, it snapped away to the left at 90 degree and crashed. Rudder and aileron correction could not save it. It was my last CMP that I ever buy again. The first one was a P40 size 50. It crashed because of wrong CG. The Mustang damages seemed minimal that I could still use it for STATIC DISPLAY.

RE: ARC Jupiter
Hey Red, thanks for the tip. I discussed with a club member today and he basically showed a similar technique. The landing block holds fine today after some minor modifications. Here is the Jupiter just after the landing. It looks messy because one of the muffler bolt loosen up and the oil spits. Otherwise, it is a pleasant Saturday flying with light wind. I did lots of high speed low pass today, just a few inch above the runway and pulled up suddenly that blasted the electric birds away. Yahooooo!!!! Its large wings lend it stability; it tracks nicely at very low attitude. I really can't get a lot of speed out of it, but it is beautiful on every low passing by.

RE: ARC Jupiter
Hey Red. Thanks for that tip. I found 2 plastic pins that come with the kit. I drilled hole from the outside and glued them in to hold that landing block. Looking good, just have to see at the field. One of the wheel popped during take off, so I landed with one wheel and nosed over, broke the tip of my blue 11x7 propeller. It is replaced with a wood prop now. There is a little nut that hold the wheel to the strut. This nut should be CA in place before screw the wheel in. I want to paint the prop blue, but afraid the paint adds weigh and shift the prop balance. Any advise?

RE: ARC Jupiter
Came back from the field today with the Jupiter. The wind was not so permitting, about 15-16 mph, and the sky was cloudy. Visibility was not that great, but I was able to put in 2 flies. The plane tracked, but was shaken up at this windspeed. I have to reinforce the landing block. It keeps on popping off. My field is badly rough with tractor's treads, cracked dirt. The landing block does not hold for very long, despite heavily epoxied. There is another thing I did not mentioned in the previous replies. You guys need to connect the rear wheel push rod to the LEFT arm of the servo. The diagram in the manual is INCORRECT, in which it connects to the right arm. If you follow the manual, what you find at the field is the plane will steer to the OPPOSITE direction of where you want it to go.

RE: ARC Jupiter
here is my new plane. There were few troubles, mostly with the engine mounting in a tight space. I threw away the tank. It's too small. I used a 13oz Dubro. Be sure not to install the landing block before you install then engine and gas tank if you want to do my way. I put CG at 85 mm, and actually it balanced itself with an Evolution 46 upfront, and 4 AA batteries side by side with the fuel tank. Sideway balanced itself too. I don't have to add any extra weight. The stock color looks uh uh. I sprayed the fuse and wings with a white can paint I bought at Lowe; the tail assembly, wing jointner, and propeller were sprayed in blue to match the blue spinner. Hey, y'all need to enlarge the holes of the spinner a little bit to fit the prop. One more thing: the wings felt unsecured with just one bolt. I drilled a hole at the front edge of the wing to fit a dowel, and a hole in the fuse for the dowel to fit in. This plane is simple. I tossed it in my wagon, worry free about scratches that are so common with balsa coverings. In case you mood changes, just sand the old paint away, and spray on whatever you like. When the day is over, an old T-shirt and Windex should make it shine like son of the gun. Out there some where, in the October blue sky and a white plane and the engine roars, uh uh, it's just.... perfect.

RE: ARC Jupiter
Hey Red, this plane ROCK stable! I fly warbirds, mainly Tang's and they all stall at low speed. This Jupiter does not. Even though speed and agility are no match to Tang's (agree, some of my 'Tang have bigger engines), it is pleasant to the point that I can close my eyes and still predict where it's heading. I'll fix my camcorder and will post some video about this plane. In the mean time, I found some video of some guys horsing his Jupiter away, probably with a bigger engine http://video.aol.com/video-detail/my-irvine-53-powered-arc-jupiter/3780705560

RE: ARC Jupiter
I threw the stock fuel tank away. It's too small that I replaced with a 13oz Dubro tank. I wrapped it with bubble wrap, pushed in the slot, jammed it in place with foams, then install the landing block. This larger volume should make at least 20 minutes of flying at full throttle. My engine is a 46 Evolution 2 stroke with 11x8 prop. It's a pain to install the engine in a tight cut off space. I did not bother to cut the slot bigger. After some struggle, the engine sits in fine.

RE: .60 size Miss America
I maiden my Wilhobby Miss A about 2 hours ago. It a little tail heavy even though I put 6 AA battery on top of the gas tank in the nose. Flight was stable. I had a RCV 91 CD engine with 14x8 prop and it was more power than it needed. I flew at 1/2 throttle for most of the flight. The problem was the retract block. It was CA instead of epoxy and popped right out the first landing. I have to fix it tonight to get ready for the weekend flight. Be sure to add something visible to 1 wing because in the air you can't tell which is right/left, top/bottom. They looked the same. I almost lost orientation several times. It float on landing, but still you don't want to land on idle with any Mustang. The first pic was the original engine for this aircraft, Magnum XL 91 4 stroke. It was leaked so I temporary replaced with the RCV 91 CD rotary 4 stroke until I figure out what was wrong with the Mag. The RCV engine sounds ALOT more realistic that my buddies were just awed. Both engines pulled the plane off the grass field to the sky in no time, but please take off like a scale. I've seen guys pull P51 straight up and some stalled.
