RE: Our first plane
Like others have said look for a club. That club will know what they like for a trainer. A trainer is a trainer and like radio brands people like what they like. To say one is better than the other just satarts battles over which is better. The best thing to do is go to the club find the instructors and find out what they suggest. That option makes sense in that you want the instrictor to be as comfortable as he can be whenb teaching you then you can get more out of the training. Welcome to the addiction.

RE: Trouble setting up Delta Wing configuration with Devo 7 Radio
It does look very confusing. To me it seems that the left surface should be in the aileron (they call it the Ailetor) and the right in the elevator channels. Then ensure that the TX has been set up to delta. If you have these set like this then I would try to get someone else to look it over and check it out. It is very hard to give more than the basic advice with out seeing these things in person.

RE: flaperons and spolerones
I must second all the people saying flaperons are not a friend untill you have a lot of flight time. I have them on my pattern model and only use them to make landing consistant. They are very tame compared to flaps only a few degreees programmed in and a couple degrees of elevator programmed in to keep the nose up. I do this so my landings will conform to the criteria I am being judged at and I am always carfull to carry some motor on the plane to keep it from dropping the wings. I have used flaps on several airplanes. They had gobs of throw in them and could slow the plane to a crawl. It really does sound like your flying site needs to be looked at as well as how you are flying. I have seen several new pilots flying around in small areas trying to dive in for a landing only to find out that they are now landing too hot (fast). Once they see how much easier a flatter approach is they learn to land better. In a small crowded area it may be impossible to get a flat enough approach.

RE: a lesson to all
Just as a note not all 2.4 systems use model match. I fly airtronics and on the FHSS-1 it does not use any model match I can take off and fly with the wrong model selected. I have been carefull thus far to avoid it at the field but it has bitten me once when I went to program a new plane into the TX. I do not see any huge areas of gain from 2.4 to 72. I fly on both and perfer my 2.4 radios not due to the frequency but due to the ease of atjustment with the computers in them.

RE: Are Pattern Planes Good 2nd Planes?
I recently won a pattern contest sportsman class with a pulse 60. The sportsman class is designed to be flown as an introduction to others in how to fly pattern without the need to fly a pattern airplane. That being said I also have a wind 50e which is a pattern aircraft. It could make a second airframe with special emphasis placed on being very profecient on landing. The lighter electrics are loaded very light and can make a very well behaved airplane but if you dork a landing on it you could really tear the gear out as it is not as robust. Now to answer the question of if I had a pattern plane why fly the pulse well I have flown the pulse over 100 times this year and the wind only 20. That is why. The long and short is if you can land consistantly easy with varying wind conditions then a newer pattern ship is doable. Be aware of it not being as rugged as other airframes might be.

RE: servos????
This is like many other things in this hobby. It is about preference. I perfer to buy servos with the intent that once they are installed they remain there till the end. I bought several sport planes and bought regular standard servos nothing special. They are economical and they fly the planes just great. I have a pattern aircraft and it has full on digitals on all surfaces. This is due to the design of the plane. It is designed for percesion and gets high end servos. If I pull a servo out of a plane it is due to a crash. I would not swap them from plane to plane due to them being screwed into wood. It is all about what you want to do though. T hese are just my choices and reasoning.

RE: 60 size ARF
I would have to go with either a escapade or a pulse. I have flown both and they are great planes to step up into. They are plenty tame and if you up the throws a bit they can get aerobatic enough to do anything you would really want. I can not say much to the sticks as I have never flown one but they seem real nice just not my cup of tea. Another design is the Supersportster design just can't recall every seeing a .60 version of it though.

RE: Great Planes Escapade .40 ARF
I had a Magnum XLS 46 on my first escapade and it flew wonderfully. The plane was great if the dumb pilot would not have gotten slow on a windy landing the plane would still be here. I am now on my second and did this one electric. Got 10 flights on it and I am loving this plane all over again.

RE: Best and Worst Nitro Engine Powered RC Airplanes for Beginners in the Market
The key part to the OP was the AFS. I always ALWAYS!!!! disconect this. I have never seen it act properly. While I am not a big fan of Nexstars. They are not too bad. I will say I much perfer electric for beginers as it seems to be easier to teach flight alone on these and then teach engines on later airframes but I learned on a glow trainer. It is a taste thing. If a student shows up I will teach on what he has if he has nada I will teach on my trainer which is a tower glow trainer.

RE: Maiden my Escapade...
I would say to take that trainer out and get acquainted to flying again. When I maidened my second escapade a few weeks ago I put a similar designed plane up. This helped two fold. I got some more stick time right before the maiden with a plane I am comfortable with. It also helped me to remeber what an escapade should feel like. I also have a friend or 3 stand near me and be there just incase I am fighting for level they can hit the trims. It is all about the preflight though. I always go over every detail 20 million times prior to the flight. I would hate to lose a brand new airframe due to a stupid goof up in setup. I also have taken to going over others airplanes before I fly them. I have been asked to maiden others planes and done it but I check and recheck every surface and weak point I can find. The escapade is a great plane. I have owned 2 first was a glow this new one is electric. I have also taught 2 people to fly off their own escapades. If set up right they are docile and easy to fly.

RE: Hobbico Avistar a Performer?
As Mythoughs for an Engine I like the OS 46 AX and the 55 AX. I have had great sucess with both they have great performance. As to the trainer it is possible to mount those engines on there fro break in and testing but those engines break in fast so it is not a requirement. I would keep the trainer and put the older engine back on if nothing else trainers are a blast to fly.

RE: Disconect allerions on a trainer 40 ?
For disconnecting the ailerons. I would recommend against it for a huge reason that I see at my field. I trust in the fact that the guys that designed my planes are a bit smarter than me and while I may tweak things I never change them too much. I see guys that just go crazy changing many things designed into a plane and then complain about how it flys. I actually got a free plane this way. A guy was complaining about his Extra and that even with the wings mounted upside down thats right upside down the plane did not fly right. I put new electronics in it and mounted the wings the propper direction and flew the crap out of it. I will say the wings did look to have a funny shape to them but it flew just fine with them put on correctly. When I have a student I try to temper what others say. Good advice is good but bad advice can kill an airframe.

RE: To flap or not to Flap. That is the question
I would suggest you investigate the option of using a buddy box as opposed to swapping the TX. I tried to swap once and hated it as a student due to the fact the Training guy had to take his eyes off the plane to swap and thwn reacquire the plane. Those precious seconds are better used to recover the plane. With a buddy box the controls are moved from one to the other without the need to look around or pass the TX. PLease look at using a buddy box and cord. Your airframe will thank you.

RE: First plane, which servos?
A flatter pitch prop even on a glow engine can cause enough drag to give an aerobraking effect. It worked wonders on a cherokee I have. I had a problem it coming in hotter than I wanted went from a 10-6 to a 11-5 and it slows down to a crawl now on final.

RE: Learning
Congrats on the landings. Now is when the learning really starts. I still go out and shoot touch and gos every day I fly. If I am taking a student I usually arrive early and take the trainer out and shoot with it if I am alone or not training I shoot with what I have. As you progress into new types of planes you will see the differences in the approach. I recently started flying a pattern plane and there is a huge difference in that most sport planes glide in easy and forgiving. The pattern plane has a keep the nose down and keep power on it till it gets over the threshold then gently lower power and very gently flair. The flair is more to finish the slow and keep the nose up. Once power is pulled at slow speeds it almost stops in the air. But man once you get it; you get it. Another aspect is practice approaches and flying in conditions that push your comfort (just a bit). Try to fly in wind and cross winds. It puts you in a whole new group when you see people packing it in and you fly in the wind. It is awesome to see peoples jaw drop when I fly a foam T-28 straight down the runway sideways. Also when it stops 10 feet over the runway 0 ground speed and just apears to hover. It just takes a bit of confidence and finding progressive days that step you into the more challenging flying. Again good on ya!

RE: Am I Ready to be called INSTRUCTOR?
So because it does not exist anywhere else means that it is not the Norm here? Is that your statement or is it just your opinion that it should be the norm. My club or any other club I have been to operates as you suggest. The Student and Instructor MAY share blame in a crash as far as I have seen and the Instructor may volunteer recompense for a crash but none has been expected, from what I have seen. Have you seen diferent? Or do you want to see diferent? You have a very firm opinion and defend it well but I just do not agree or will ever agree with it. I fear that if many people took your view then our small hobby would get very small as the number of instructors would be few and no one would have anyone to turn to when learning. I just think it is a bit harsh to tell every other pilot on here that they should not be an instructor unless they meet YOUR specification that no one else seems to share.

RE: Am I Ready to be called INSTRUCTOR?
I think it is a bit much to say it is the instructors fault alone. The student showed up and asked for a "VOLUNTEER" to instruct him. If I were being paid then that is one thing. I am not being paid. I am one of 3 instructors at the field. I will try my hardest not to crash the plane mostly due to the fact I own the training plane. AT the end of the day I am asked to help and will so if a crash happens my fault, their fault, or just magic that Harry Potter did if I felt I would be held to being forced at replacing or making monetary retribution I would not do this the risk to me is too great. With the lack of instructors here it would not work to have a retribution for having been instructed/helped. The main point is I am a volunteer not a paid instructor so you will get no promise from me. If that is not good enough then I guess that person can find another instructor.

RE: Am I Ready to be called INSTRUCTOR?
I myself just started instructing. I was unsure as you are till I had a talk with my current mentor about it. He told me he saw me fly and that I was capable of doing the instructor thing. I had already started doing some ground work helping the pther instructors so the teaching part was there. I was a bit apprehensive to fly someone elses plane. Well we had an opertunity to assist a school in doing buddy box flights for the students and it was so much easier than I thought. I just kept the plane where I was comfortable then gave the student the control. I think this is what really helped my confidence in buddy boxing. There was no lesson or teaching it was just let them goof off with the plane then take it when it was not to your comfort. One older student was actually taking to lessons and landed on my first day of buddy boxing. It all has to do with your comfort. If you can take your plane and recover from adverse attitudes then you know what there is to do. The hardest part is not panicing and work on calmly saying my plane fix it then give it back. Explain what happened if you know and what can be done to remedy the problem. If you remain calm then it goes a long way to the student gaining comfort with you. I lost the rudder on the trainer when I was planning to treach a student. It had a failed hinge and was jamming over causing a roll when jammed. I took off and had the failure immediatly called that I was in emergency condition to the other pilots then calmly climbed high to get an idea of what to do. I wiggle things and got the rudder to slip back into place then set up and landed right away. The student was scared for me. He was like man I thought that was going to crash for sure. I just repeated what was taught to me never stop flying and altitude is your friend. I was shaking after the landing and thought I had just bought a trainer for sure myself but the comfort from those around came from keeping my composure and keeping my lessons in kind as things happened. Stay in your comfort and remain calm.

Well second plane sugestions are hard as no one knows really what you want but you. I have a pulse 60 it is a very good plane I have had an escapade good plane also. the GP Cherokee is a good plane. I would also suggest the GP Super sportster EP. I recently got one and well it is just a ball. I wish I had bought it earlier as it is a bit docile but a very capable sport low wing plane.

If you PM me I can give yopu of their names and the club websites. If another island then I am not familar but sure there is something.

RE: Newbs need to start off with trainers!
It is funny but the way you describe the situation I do not think any frame would have faired any better. Nothing is as good as the combination of a tame frame and an instructor that you like. If he wouldn't listen to you trying to warn and give instruction then I fear he is going to crash many more planes in quick succession. I feel sorry for the planes too, what did they do to deserve that fate?

RE: Can I charge both at the same time
There are many things that can cause a vibratrion in an engine. Yes some is normal and havingit idle low would cause it to be worse. A unbalanced prop can cause it a misreamed prop can cause it a loose engine could cause it. These are all things I would look at. Also look at what seems to be vibrating. Does it look like just the engine is shaking or is the whole plane. does it get worse with higher RPM or go away.

RE: confused about battery hook up
There are 6 volt batteries and 4.8 volt batteries. If its a 4.8 volt then at a full charge it would be about 5.5 volts. There are several things to remember. Nimh batteries will drop up to 30% of their charge soon after beingf charged. a 750MAH is not a big battery. The voltages given for batteries are the nominal voltages and MAH should vahuely tell you how long they will last NIMH are notorious for needing topping off. I think this should explain what you think you are seeing as battery problem are really just drawbacks to the type/size you have chosen. To get better performance try topping the battery off at the feild also lookat when you are replacing it look for more MAH and possibly 6 volts/ 5 cell vice 4 cell. I use glow engines which would well equate to your setup. I was getting 3 flights from 4.8v 600MAH I upgraded them to 6.0v 2200 MAH and now I get as many flights as I want for a weekend on one charge.

Saito 91 for Hanger 9 T-34
I have a T-34 that I am planning on installing a Saito 91 on. The directions say to install it on a 90. I am curious as to how the exhaust could be dealt with. I am concerned about ordering a $70 pitts muffler that may not fit with the landing gear rails running right under the engine. I was looking at using some of the 90 degree adapters to set the exhaust to flow out the bottom of the cowl. I have also heard that the pitts mufflers may need to have one of the exhaust ports blocked or pinched to provide adequate back-pressure for fuel delivery. This is my first attempt into ttrying to put scale details into a model and would like some advice.
