RE: NEAD Battleday this Saturday in north Jersey
We had a great time guys. Cool, shady with a light breeze. Seven NEAD members made it and the field was very good. Not one thrown track due to Scots grooming efforts. Pix to come later....thanks again and we will have another one soon.
ORIGINAL: strippersteel Thanks for the detailed battle info Bob. Felt like I was really there and sounded like a ton of fun. Good pictures too.
Thank you. I didn't take as many pix as usual since I was not there Friday. I know Steve, Dana and a few others have more to add. I hope you can make the next battle weekend at the end of June or the big event in November.

RE: WOW.... 32+ Tankers from 10 states enjoyed the 10th Aniversary of the AAF Tank Mus. RC Battlefield
A few more pix.... I know a bunch were taken by other so post your to guys. Sort thru them this weekend. I have none of Friday action so fill us in. I these 3 shots we were doing team battles. My team was Mike Krieger (Panther), Andrew(?), Daryl (T1, a heavy tank which he rarely uses), Joe (JP). We 3 decided to set up a base of fire and put steady pressure on the town (one shot every 3 seconds) to push the enemy team out without trying to overrun it. It worked and we flushed the town of enemy without any of us taking a single hit. Our volume of fire was too mush to counter and each of the defenders had taken hits. Just as they were trying a counter attack the BOF Mike(EOT) went up the center and added to the base of fire. Rather than get decimated in the town, the enemy abandoned it and fled to join their teammates in zone one. They were pushed them into a corner and then sensing they were being boxed in they regrouped and moved towards cover at the RR tunnel and castle area. Enemy Mike Praw's KT then broke an idler (funny how the 1/16 KTs mimic the real thing). The idler at one point travelled all the way up to the drive sprocket and he tried to fight us off. His teammates had to stand and fight in the open and wouldn't leave him. His 2 wing men were killed by our 3 ,as of yet, un-hit tanks. He was killed and we patted ourselves on the back for the victory. Trouble was, the was still one enemy tank left. A Sherman arrived too late to help his KT teammate but still had to be vanquished. Two of my teammates had already turned their tanks off so they were not able to return to battle. The Sherman had already been hit a few times and was soon KO'ed in short order having fought well. The battle lasted about 40 minutes and was one of the best of the day. Many thanks to my teammates. We had a great team and we stuck to our order of battle. I have fought both with and against Daryl for many years. He is a true gentleman who loves tanks and make the best products for them. He normally runs a full custom medium T-34. His battle style suits him. Cautious, subtle, precise and methodical. This time with the 9 shot heavy Tiger 1 he was aggressive and tenacious. It was the most fun I have ever had with him in battle. I eagerly look forward to next time in June and hope he runs the T1 again. Thank you Daryl (AKA Super-Daryl)

NEAD Battleday this Saturday in north Jersey
Our first NEAD north Jersey Battleday will be Sat. May 18th at 9 AM. The north Jersey battlefield is at Sherry Field, 133 Lafayette, Washington Twp (Bergen County), NJ, zip 07676, at the Westwood boarder. They made some renovations and the field looks good. A new fence around the battlefield will keep cars out of the battle area too. If your tank is not yet complete or you are having trouble with it, bring it anyway. We are always helping each other out with repairs, parts, buying, selling, trading and such. That is what NEAD club members do. Don't have a tank ready??? ...I'll load you one of mine. Let me know who is coming. I know it is a busy time of year but lets get out and have some fun. Don't forget NEAD will also be attending the MAAM WW II Weekend in Reading, PA the first weekend in June. Plan now for a Saturday meeting with Sunday rain date. I may be the both days....if I get paroled. Gregg (Panther G) also wants to host an event in Florence again and a better location we scouted last fall. I sill want a NEAD/ACE battle day in the DelMarVa area.

I thinking of doing a winter scheme, but have plenty of time to decide. I would like to get the wheel bearing also, where can i find them and how many do i need? I have access to a machinist. What about the soundboard? upgrade? What about the electrical connectors, where can I get them. Should have funds next wk, and be ready to start the purchase. Question about the wheel bearings? paint the wheels before the bearings are installed or after? I am a person who will overthink stuff. Thanks again for taking the time to read my post.
ORIGINAL: ausf It's a plastic Heng Long StuG III G with some mods: Aluminum reinforced hull. Metal gears with Promaxx 400s Bearings in the final drives. Return roller height corrected. Waffle zim with ApoxieSculpt (went for field applied look, although I'm not certain waffle was ever field applied) Brass schurzen and frame (measured off of Voyager's 1/35 PE kit) Adjustable idlers and metal tracks. Servo traverse with HL elevation. Correct recoil movement ala Dan's mod. DBC RC3 with Spektrum TX/RX Benedini TBS mini and 6W amp. Visation speaker. DBU is in the cupola, you can see the grey/black lenses in the periscopes, those are IR filters. The emitter is in the mantlet where the bolt is missing. That battle damage is from photos of an actual Tiger. The Notek and convoy light both function. Stowage and gear is all leftovers from other builds, etc. Mud is both Aves and actual dirt in acrylic. The inside hub tub is sealed and technically speaking waterproof, but I have no intention of finding out. I think that's it, any questions of thoughts are welcomed. RE: WOW.... 32+ Tankers from 10 states enjoyed the 10th Aniversary of the AAF Tank Mus. RC Battlefield
As per your request Sgt. Maj...here are a few pix of the FLAK truck care of my buddy Shark47. THANK YOU STEVE!!! Steve, Danny Lo, Jimmy Kuhn and a few others are much better photographers than I am. Most of my photo work is limited to crime scenes, traffic crashes and mug shots ("turn to the right..."). I also brought a German cargo truck that I just finished detailing right before I left NJ. I love tanks but variety is the spice of life. I have been customizing these for several years and I know some of you now do it too. there are so few WWII period vehicle out there in this large of a scale. We need more soft skins, wheeled armor and cars for the battle fields to add realism and variety. Over the years I have built, bought, traded, bartered, restored and finished many projects that were inspired by vintage photos, 1/35 scale vehicles & dioramas, my trips to the European battlefields & museums, other's unfinished projects and neglected shelf queens. Many started by other talented builders. There are many guys out there who are significantly more talented than I am. Many just never put the cherry on the sundae. I have learned much from watching you guys just as much as you may watch me. The more we read, post and the more we experiment, the more we all learn. That is why we are here...to share, to learn, to grow. Build your dreams men...get that dream project off the back burner, bring it up to the front burner and turn up the heat.

WOW.... 32+ Tankers from 10 states enjoyed the 10th Aniversary of the AAF Tank Mus. RC Battlefield
All RC tankers wherever you are, are invited to Danville for the AAF Tank Museums 10th Aniversary of the RC battlefield. This will be a huge 3 day event starting Friday morning May 10th and going thru to Sunday afternoon May 12th, 2013. Whether you were there "way back when...", or are a "Danville regular" (AKA Lifer) or even if you have never been there before... YOU are invited to our 10th Aniversay celebration and battleweekend next month. Your RC tank brothers from NEAD and HEAT will be running this event which is in lieu of the sorely missed Extravaganza. This will be the largest RC tank event at Danville for the year. The November event is the second largest but that is a long way off. So quit putting it off and pull that trigger. Buddy up and drive together in a carpool, fly in, paddle a canoe, take the train, hitch-hike, bum a ride, or parachute in.....just come to the 10 Aniversay and see for yourself all that has been going on there for 10 years. Quit taking it for granted that it will be there forever and take advantage of the fact that the only indoor RC tank battlefield in within your reach. It is well worth the trip. I am also asking you RCU guys to post some photos of the battlefield thru the years (the older the better) so we can all see the results of the hard work and thousands of dollars in improvements that have contributed to the unending improvement of the battelfield for a decade. Thanks to ALL the volunteers who have given so much to refine it to the finest RC tank battlefield anywhere. Here are some pix of my first Tamiya battletank (A used $500 Tiger I back in 2006) and my laughably bare and barren workbench in 2007. The Commander's money back guarentee!!! If any first time tanker at this event can look me in the face and tell me he didn't have the great time at Danville that day...I will personally refund him his admission cost. I don't know what else I can do to entice you guys to join us other than picking you up at your house....LOL. Although I have picked up tankers at their local hotels who fly to Danville before. Don't miss out again, Come join us, Bob & Dana PS WOW, Ironically, this is my 2000th post on RCU. Thanks to all my tank forum buddies for your generous camaraderie and kind words through the years.

RE: Tiger Paint
Early in the war most tanks were panzer grey. Later and as air supremacy was lost by the Luftwaffe hiding 50 ton plus tanks became more vital. Dark Yellow (Dunkel Gelb... auf Deutsch) was a base color over the red oxide primer. A pair of 2 kilo blocks of paint base (Grun und Rot Braun most often) went with the tanks to the field. Most were painted in the field by the repair/maint. units with a pressure feed spray gun. The paint base was mixed with thinner, kerosene, petrol/gasoline, even water ...and this resulted in a WIDE variety of camo patterns. These were tailored to suit the theater of operation, season/time of year and terrain. I think that this variety is why the German tanks are so loved and duplicated. There is a favorite pattern for each of us to adore....[:)] The Olive Drab of US tanks gets boring fast. The Russian tanks are very close behind on the boring scale. The German Tri-color pattern is very popular and the Ambush pattern is my favorite. The red oxide was more prolific in the last stage of the war and broad stripes became very easy to apply in the field and were effective in hiding the tanks. Cut local foliage, hiding in the trees and covering track marks became more vital to evade the Jagdbombers (AKA Jabos). Anti-acraft machine guns were added to many turrets and tank engine decks to fight off attackers. Cuise the web and the photo callery here on RCU to find oyour favorite. Remember, if you grow bored with your Tigers camo you can always cange it later.

RE: NEAD Battle Day this Sunday (9-16) in Westwood. NJ
Scott and I spent two hours or so working on the field with machines, rakes and shovels. It may be the best we have had at Sherry field in the past year and a half. It is still a little too flat and linear for me, but there is plenty of cover and terrain. There is a river bed thru the center for that great bridge of Charlies. Now if we could get flowing water in there... I would be really happy.
