RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build
jim glad it worked out for you.. im not quite that far along.. have another project been working on.. almost done with it and can get back on p51. I have the aero teck sliding canopy and inner and outer doors. Have to make the doors for the tail wheel. but won't be long and will be back on it again. I started with a plane someone else built.. stripped it done and started over with it.

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build
has anyone tried to retract the tail wheen with a servo and the mains and doors with air. from looking at it, it would be easy to do. retract the mains and then tail wheel comming up or mains going down first then tail wheel. but the doors would all be tired into the air system. this plane orig had a servo operated tail wheel but no doors. just a thought. would like your thoughts on this setup.

just like the real one, they like there fuel. too bad could not have the wings a big fuel tank, but would add lots of weight and heck of fire ball if a crash...

RE: G-Pete's Ziroli P-38J Lightning build
wish i had a dollar for every time something like that has happen to me. That is part of flying these models. No matter how much we try, every once in awhile something goes wrong... like i said would let you fly mine without even thinking about it. I always look at it this way.. if we crash there is always the next one. I have been flying for 55 years and even i make mistakes. will be glad to see you get the p38 back in shape and ready to go again.

do not have to lengthen. the sliding canopy came with new part that fits on to the plane then canopy mounts to it.. had to make a cockpit tub that set into the plane then mount up everything.. will show some picture later this week. got the cockpit kit and sliding canopy from aerotech.. great company to deal with.

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build
well im back on the p51 after most of the summer off. lots of sanding to do. got the sliding canopy and retract gear doors. Have alot of prep to do before glassing everything. I stripped the plane down. took all the old covering off and started to sand and add filler where needed. have the cockpit box build and now have to take out the old floor and install. also got the new fiberglass cowl. still have to work on getting the engine installed.. using a g62.

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build
i bought my cockpit kit and sliding canopy from a different company then top flite.. a whole lot of difference.. the cockpit kit was 100 percent better and the sliding canopy was great. in the process of getting back on the rebuild of the p51. when i bought it, it already had robart retracts in it. got the doors from same company that i got the canopy.. got these from aerotech models.. great company to do business with. they have more detail in there cockpits. even gauges on in color.

i know a guy that build a cub that had 20 ft wingspan and tried to land it on there short field.. ended up in the creek. they put it on a pickup to bring it back and caught a wing on something a tore it off. rebuilt it and sold it. the bigger, the longer the runway.

what size or the rods from servo to elevator and what is length. sounds like flutter.. which could cause a problem in the air or could just be vibration. not sure. might have someone else look it over for you.

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build
have found 90 percent of the time, it is a airleak usually around the intake that causes rough idle when comming of high. usually a gasket . i use a gasket sealer when installing back on motor. Check your linkage. make sure you use solid rods and as short as possible. vibration will effect them every time if the can flex.
