RE: E-Revo BL Suspension Question..
I just picked up an ERBE and to increase the ground clearance slightly I moved the pushrod to the inner hole and added some preload to the springs by adjusting them to aprox 1/2. There are likely better ways of increasing clearance but I have not had any issues so far. I did the same thing to my Summit and have many hours on it without any broken parts.

RE: Sig Somethin' Extra advice
Between my brother and I we have three SSE's. One is built as per the plans, another is slightly modified and the third has a quite a few changes, all of them have .46 size motors. They all fly wonderfull, especially with a rearward cg. Both of my SSE's balance behind what was stated on the plans, and in my opinion makes the plane much more enjoyable to fly, but does not give it any bad habits. On one of my SSE's I moved the rudder and elevator servos to the rear of the fuselage, couterbalanced the elevator and rudder and also increased rudder size. I also made some SFG's for the wings and they radically improved the knife edge performance of the plane. It will knife edge all day long without falling off like the other two. Not sure how you like to fly, but I am just a sport flyer and love the rearward cg. I will take a measurement and let you know the distance.

RE: Hangar 9 f-22 pts
I agree that a .46 would be a little underpowered. I have an OS 55ax on mine and my brother has a GMS 61 on his. They are both several years old and have taken some hard knocks, but are still flyable and see the airfield a couple times a year. We try and do a little formation flying when we get together. It's much harder than it looks.

RE: Sig LT-40 Build - By A Beginner
Hi, I hope you enjoy building and flying your LT as much as I did mine. I initially built mine as per the plans, but I ended up rebuilding the fuse and one wing tip after having a bad crash. At this point I made it a bolt on wing. Not that there was anything wrong with the rubber band mount, I just prefered the look of the bolt on. Upgrading the main gear to a fiberglass or aluminum would be a good idea, but it isn't really necessary. I still have the stock wire gear on mine and it has many flights on it. I also built the Mid Star as a tail dragger for my second plane and I still fly it fairly often. You will love this plane. It really is a winner. Anyway, you cant go wrong with either plane, so build it the way you prefer and enjoy the trip. I hope they serve you well. Travis

Without the SFG's it won't hold a knife edge but once they are installed it will knife edge all day long. Sorry, but it won't knife edge loop. Travis

I wanted to do up the SSE as a tribute to my 4yr old boy who is a Transformer fan. His favorite characters are Optimus Prime and Bumblebee. I have to do some repairs to the SSE this winter so I will be having to do some recovering. The colors will remain the same but I will make the flames smaller.

RE: Sig Somethin Extra - build tips and mods compilation
Last winter I built an SSE and added Side Force Generators to help with knife edge flight. I didn't know how to engineer them so I used the looks about right aproach. As it turns out they really made a big differance in the knife edge flight. It will hold a knife edge for as long as I want it to. I will post some pics when I go on my other computer. Trav

RE: Sig Mid-Star Build
Hi, you have chosen a very good plane in the Mid Star. I built mine as a progression from my LT 40 trainer around 5 yrs ago and still occasionally bring it to the field when I want a relaxing sport plane to shoot some touch and goes. I have an Evolution .46 mounted on it and it is a nice size engine for this frame. Your OS 46 fxi from the Nextar would be ideal. I would like to make a suggestion to you about the tail wheel. Do not use the tail wheel wire that comes with the kit. It mounts directly to the rudder and puts a lot of strain on the rudder hinges and servo gears, especially when flying from a grass field. I used the factory wire when I first built my MS but it was quickly torn from the rudder when I bumped my plane rearwards while starting the motor. I have now switched all of my planes to a Sullivan tail wheel. They are far superior and will save you some trouble down the road. Good luck and have fun. RE: Summit Info
ORIGINAL: Massivecac I have a Summit and I think its great! If you want speed and rock crawling ability then the summit is good for you. I will say that you wanna save some money for the battery upgrade. GO LIPO! The stock batts are good but run time kinda sucks, (15-20min) thats switching from Hi gear to low gear every so often. anyways, I think it's a good truck because if does have good speed on it. Plus its LED lights make this truck look very sick. I have a problem with mine and so far I've heard this happen to another..... (bad servo) (glitch problem) It seams to be a manufacture problem but don't worry, they are giving a helping hand to those in need of replacement. To sum it up... $500 well spent for a stock RTR rock crawler and fast truck. enjoy, hope this helped you decide.
I have been looking at the Summit as my first RC truck as well. What Lipo's did you switch to? Was there much of an increase in peformance other than a longer run time?

I have no doubt that you will thoroughly enjoy your Mid Star, I feel they are very underrated. I built my Mid Star as a tail dragger 6yrs ago and it is still with me today. It is in need of a recovering but other than that it's as good as the day I built it. Have fun with your Mid Star, Travis

RE: Lost one to a spider
Well, I have never heard a story like that before, but it is kind of funny. I think the only one I heard that was funnier was when my 5yr old niece pulled her dads shorts down to his ankles while he was flying. He didn't crash but he had to hand over his controller because no one would pull his shorts back up.

Thanks for the responce guys. The Futaba Gy401s is definately a popular gyro and will likely suite my needs, but I am going to look a little closer into the G401b. The price is right, and if it is tried and true then it looks like the gyro for me. Travis

T-rex newbie
Hi, I posted a question in the beginners threads but have had no responce, so I will ask again here. First a little info. My Trex 450 sa is my first real helicopter. I do have a Blade cx2 and the G3.5 sim, but setting up a heli is new to me. I have been doing alot of research on gyros , but not sure which one will give me the greatest chance of setting up and flying sucessfully. Other than on-line forums I won't have any guidance during set up. My requirements for a gyro/servo set up is that it is stable in a hover and will handle slow forward/backward flight. I am learning and not %100 certain helis are for me, so I really don't want to shell out for a high end gyro. I would sacrafice 3d performance for an easy to set up/stable gyro. Here are a couple examples of what I have been looking at. http://www.greathobbies.com/productinfo/?prod_id=HIT41920 http://www.greathobbies.com/productinfo/?prod_id=JRPG7703D2 Keep in mind ease of set up is very important. Thanks for any help. Trav

Hitec gyro/servo's
Hi, I was wondering if anyone had used this Hitec set up for an Alighn 450sa or similar heli. This is my first real heli, other than my Blade cx2 and want something simple to set up and operate. Hovering and basic slow forward/backward flight is likely all I will be doing for quite awhile. http://www.greathobbies.com/productinfo/?prod_id=HIT40105 Thanks, Travis

RE: First Kit ideas/help
I also recommend the Sigs. I have built 5 of their kits so far. I have the Mid Star and the Somethin Extra and they are both great. I don't have a 4* 40, but I do have the 60 size with a clipped wing and it flies well also. The Kougar is also a nice flying plane, but it is a more difficult build in relation to the others. None of these planes are real difficult to build or fly. For your TT.46 I would suggest the Something Extra. It's a little more exciting to fly than the others. Trav

Is anyone flying, or have access to the Hanger 9 Sundowner 50 ARF? RE: One more SIG Somethin' Extra
You'll really enjoy your SSE. I am flying a rebuilt SSE that a buddy gave to me with a busted fuse, but I have a new kit sitting on the shelf waiting to be built. I don't know what is normal for building time, but for me winter is the time for building, so if it takes me 5 months, it doesn't matter because building helps me pass the time and keep my sanity. Last winter I built a 4* 60 with a few mods and it took me pretty much all winter. Good job on the build, Sigs are popular kits and in my opinion the Something Extra is the best looking of the Sig line. Trav

Kit built Lt 40 resurection.
Here's a couple of pics of my Lt that I crashed due to rx battery going dead in flght. I made paper templates of every piece before I built the plane just in case I needed to rebuild it. These pics are 3yrs old but the Lt is still flying. I don't fly it much anymore, I've moved onto more aerobatic planes ,but occasionaly I pull it from the rafters and go for a flip. RE: newbie questions, please help
Thanks for the replies so far guys. My LHS, if you can call it that, is 1.5hrs away----one way. Going to them for occasional parts and advice simply isn't practical so most if not all of my purchasing will be online orders. I realise I will have to stock some common parts incase of a mishap but parts are no more than a mouse click away. I do believe my LHS does have the Trex sitting on it's shelf, but cannot say for certain. Next time I head to the city I will be asking questions for sure. If a good quality gyro and servos are needed for precise, stable control then I have no reservations about spending a few extra dollars. Thanks for the advise on this as it will likely save money in the long run. Components will be secondary to the heli purchase though so I am more focussed on the right heli for me first and foremost. Proper set up is important with any aircraft in order to have the best possible results, this is why I asked about the owners manual as I have no one to go over this with me. Any online sources that you can tell me about for the helis in question is also much appreciated. I have awhile to mull over all options as it will likely be next winter before I decide to make a purchase. My flying budget is used up setting up a couple of new planes this year. Keep the comments coming, I look forward to them. Thanks, Travis

newbie questions, please help
Hello everybody, I'll give you a quick history about myself before asking questions. I am mainly a nitro plane guy, but I am also interested in heli's. I have a G3.5 sim. that I have been practicing on as well as a Blade cx2 that I bought used ( like new). The Blade is very limited but it gets me accustomed to stick movement and I found that I really enjoyed the challenge of heli's. To me that makes it worth the purchase price. I would like to upgrade to a larger, better heli in the future so I am searching for my next one. The Blade 400 looks nice as it is 400 size and RTF, but I have a spare tx ( JR 378) that I can use and I know the merits of building and setting up what you fly so I have pretty much narrowed down my choices to three heli's. I am looking at the TT Mini Titan E325, Trex 450sa, or the Trex 450E V2 mainly because parts are readily available and user reviews seem pretty good. Here comes the questions. Can anyone give an honest comparison between the Titan and the Trex sa? Is the manual beginner friendly, in terms of set up procedures, which gives the most stable hover and forward flight. Bear in mind that I am not concerned with aerobatic capabilities right now, just basic flight. What is the differance between the Trex sa and the V2? From what I can find is that the V2 has most of the aluminum upgrades already installed but I could be wrong. Is it worth twice the price of the SA. Ease of set up is important as I am a complete newbie and don't know of anyone locally to help me, so I will be alone on this venture. I will leave it at that for now. Thanks to all who take the time to read this and repond. Travis

RE: Sig Four Star 60
I wanted to know what any of you recommend for "Beefier Landing Gear", is something like the Goldberg fiber resin or Great Planes wire gear OK? I have ordered the DuBro fibre gear for the mains. Will be adding these to my year old Hog Bipe as well. I would think any brand of fibre gear will work well as long they are rated for your planes weight. I will also be adding a Sullivan tail wheel. They are wonderfull tailwheels and super easy to install.

RE: Sig Four Star 60
I am also in the process of buildinfg the 4* 60. I am clipping one wing bay, sheeting the turtle deck, upgrading both main and tail gear, modifying the canopy and adding a cowl. Probably good advise to sheet the front of the wing, I will likely add this as well. I would like to add a some area to the rudder but have heard that the plane balances tail heavy. Has anyone else had this problem? I heard the same thing about the Sig Something Extra but mine balanced perfectly without any added nose weight. Any advise on this is appreciated.
