RE: 10th Anniversary Warbirds Over The Rockies Sept. 13-15, 2013
Registration is really quick and easy on RC Flight Deck. This computer program was developed by Michael Kranitz, who was one of the original owners of RC Universe. Br sure to fill out the plane information for the announcer, as we give the info to the magazines as well. You can register, rent a tent, buy banquet tickets and buy spectator tickets as well. Many events will be using this computer platform in the future, so after you have registered and loaded your plane information, it is then easy to register for other events. Brian here is the registration link http://www.rcflightdeck.com/event_details.cfm?event_id=1648

Great time by all the colorado gang. I think there were six of us from Colorado. As anybody knows about this event, it is for the warbird pilot who loves to fly fly fly. The field was perfect. The food is out of this world. Non stop fantastic food from 7 Am thru dinner. One of the things I love is all the new , scratch built and designed planes. Yep, there are still builder/modelers out there. Carl never ceases to amaze us all with the fantastic planes he designs and builds. And he is not the only one. Kinda missed Jeff's new 12 foot Spitty. I would love to see it fly with the big 220 ZDZ in the nose. This is a must attend event for anybody close to Minn. Tim and Karen are fantastic hosts !!!!

RE: Brian Omeara's F84's
room for everybody. The shop is 1600 sq feet. HAs eight electric hoists. A 220 volt air compressor that is outside and plumbed into the shop with eight stubs coming out of the wall. SO lots of air for painting, plowing dust out of fuselages and cycling landing gear. Tons of electrical outlets and overhead lights. It is attached to my house with a firewall between the house and the shop and has an industrial sprinkler system in the ceiling. Light colored tiles in the front of the shop and beige carpet in the back. So if you drop a screw, it does not go bouncing . The tiles are soft, so easy to stand on for long periods of time . Easy access as I installed a double sized garage door. So I back my truck or trailer up and awl three steps to load. There is a wall mounted shop vac with outlets throughout the room, so sanding dust can be easily vacuumed during the job. Yea, it seems like it is a mecca of RC guys hanging around. The picture of the P-47 was taken last week as the plane was getting ready to pack for Top Gun. I love Republic airplanes. Especially the P-47 and the F-84s. Brian

RE: 144
I have a 1600 sq foot shop with eight electric hoists. Here is a picture of SLEEPY JEAN with her wing off. It is really the only practical way to work on the monster. Also, a pix of the nose art. Yes, the nighty was that shed on the original. The pilot lived in Windsor Colorado after the war for 60 years with his beloved Jean. I moved the pinup in back of the cowl, because I had to put a bump on both sides of the cowl to clear the four spark plugs. If I had it to do over, I would have split the cowl and enlarged it by an inch. Jerry Caudle at Pro-MArk made all the markings including SLEEPY JEAN and the paint masks. She is painted in Klass Kote paint. DeVinci made the 10 inch main tires and wheels, Sierra landing gear and a 6 inch Robart tire and aluminum wheel for the tail wheel. I am flying with a new prop imported by Frank Tiano, called BOLD. Works great. I have run about six different props and the 38X18 and the 38X20 work the best. [image][/image] Brian[image][/image]

OK guys: Here is SLEEPY JEAN 3rd. I now have 10 flights on her with a 420 CC ZDZ quad, two stroke. Swings a 38X20 prop at 4500. A beast She is on her way to Top Gun. Electric sliding canopy, bomb drops, scale, aluminum finish, trim tabs, tip lights, landing lights, rudder beacon. My buddy, Uncle Joe from Phoenix has some great in-flight shots of her. I think he will post them Brian OMeara

RE: *** Warbirds Over The Rockies 2011, Onsite Coverage ***
Looks like it was unanimous that the event be held the last weekend of September. It will be hosted by Love-Air in Ft. Collins, Colorado where WOTR has been home for six of the last nine years. We have already started on the plans for September, and we will keep you posted on the web site and emails to the people we have emails for. All the prices are the same as last year. $50.00 pre-registration which includes a pilot and one crew pass $55.00 on site registration $40.00 for the prime rib banquet. $8.00 per person spectator ,16 and over. We encourage pilots to pre-register and registration is now open as it allows a much smoother registration process at the event We are again in partnership with Mental Health America/Colorado. They cater to the special needs of people with Alzheimer's, dementia and bi-polar. We raised $13,000 for them last year. The format will be the same as in the past with a ton of open flying, a noontime airshow based on the history of military aviation and the airshow is open to anyone that want s to participate. The pyro guy has some new explosives for us this year. We are going to limit the small park flyers to the noontime , mass launch. The dates are September 28,29 and 30. check the web site often at www.warbirdsovertherockies.com The special rates for the official hotels will be on the web site in about a week. Any questions or comments contact me at bomeara@omearaford.com I know a bunch of guys are building some pretty spectacular planes. We especially need bombers and WWI for the noontime show. Brian

RE: *** Warbirds Over The Rockies 2011, Onsite Coverage ***
Wotr was again a huge success this year, both from a pilots stand point but also the spectators thoroughly the show the pilots put on. I would like to thank everyone involved from the steering committee, to the Love -Air RC Club and of course the pilots. What I am most proud of is that we raised almost $13,000 for Mental Health America/Colorado. The major corporate sponsor , UMB Bank, donated $5000 to Mental Health. Both WOTR and Love -Air each donated $1000. THe balance was made up of onsite donations from both spectators and pilots. So , thank you to anyone who put a few coins int the Mental Health hopper. Mental Health America/Colorado caters to the needs of Colorado citizens that need help dealing with Alzheimer's , dementia and bi-polar. A very worthwhile charity that does not get the visibility that other big name charities get. I am sorry to announce that Frank Speer, who was our guest speaker at WOTR two years ago passed this last July. For those of you who heard him speak, will remember that he was shot down and spent a lot of time in several German POW camps before escaping. He was buried in Arlington. Remember, we put our guest speaker's plane each year on the official WOTR t-shirt. Brian

RE: Gene Barton P-51B
[quote]ORIGINAL: fw190 I built mine many years ago, I can't remember exactly maybe 10-12 years, I built it really light, around 17lbs with a Moki 180, Spring Air Retracts and a B&B tail retract, a pain to setup and works only if you get it right. It flew very well, its last flight was at Prado field in Chino when it first opened up. I don't know for sure if I had mechanical failure or it had a high speed stall, It was mainly my fault as I made an abrupt decision during a turn, I have done that with other models but this one did not like it. Ray Harris built two of them and he did not have any issues with flying them and I agree with Gene, do not let it go too slow especially on landing but if you keep the model light it will not be an issue at all. Really is the best looking B mustang, wish it was a little bigger. Hey Brian, was the Old Crow in WOTR a Gene Barton P51B? I am thinking it was built from the kit. [/quote] Vic: My Old Crow at the warbirds Over The Rockies was a Dave Platt kit that I built about 1987. I flew it in the Masters in St Louis about 1988 . Had a Super Tigre 3000 in it on glow with an OS carb.

RE: Gene Barton P-51B
I built two of the Barton P-51Bs in the early 90s. Painted both as "U"VE HAD IT" John England plane from the 357th. I just spent the weekend at Warbirds Over The Rockies with Bud Anderson as our guest speaker. He had a lot of stories about the P-51-B with the Malcom hood. I bet the Robart or Sierra retracts might work for the TF P-51.. I had a Webra Bully 35 on glow in both of them and retracts that Carlie Chambers made. I got my two kits from Gene Barton. They flew great. Yes, they were not very forgiving, especially at 5000 feet where I fly, but not impossible. The were fun. I also own the last of the folding wing Sky Raiders with Gene Barton custom retracts and folding wing. The Sky Raider was a joint project with Gene, Rick Lewis, Diego Lopez and Shane Craemer. Only five kits were made and I have the last one. My fuse is in primer and have not started on the wing. DO not know if I ever will. Aeroloft sold the SkyRaider kit to Yellow Aircraft about a year ago. Wish I had a lighter foam wing for it. I think Diego won Top Gun with his and Gene won the US Scale Masters with the SKY RAIDERS. SO much for a walk down memory lane. Brian OMeara

Pilots are going to start arriving on Tuesday. Tents and infrastructure goes up Wednesday. Be sure to bring your foamies if you have one for a mass launch. Also, be sure to purchase your banquet tickets on line if you know you are going to go. With Bud Anderson, this will sell out our 200 prime rib dinner. The FAA has signed off on our waiver for the full size flyovers of a T-33 and a Russian Mig 17 and a bunch of others. Come fly with us. Or just come watch the show. It is going to be a lot of fun. The event will be covered by Model Airplane News, Propwash Video, RC Universe and a British magazine. A ton of pilots have registered from 18 states, England, Brazil, Canada and Australia. Oh yea, and Texas too!!! We will have a total of 25 different trophies , judged by phantom judges. Bring your bombers and fly in the noontime PYRO show. Bring your WW I bike and fly in the gaggle Proceeds are going to Mental Health America/Colorado Brian

Here are some pictures of my 144 in B-26 Marauder, Flak Bait. Flies very realistically on a pair of Zenoah GT 80s, swinging Menz 24X10 props. Custom retracts, Sierra wheels and brakes. Phil Clark from England built it and shipped it to the US. Futaba 14 MZ radio with a ton of servos and batteries. Weighs a little over 100 pounds. It takes four guys to pick her up. The older gentleman in the last picture is Buck Rodgers, he is 92 and flew 27 of his 85 missions in Flak Bait. He will be in attendance at WOTR as well. THe 262 belongs to Ryan Haldenwanger. A Grumania kit with a Jetcentral Rhino in it. Come watch the show, come be a part of the show. Come have some fun!!! Brian
