RE: Thorpe F-20 build
Terry, The video did not work out, I will have to read the book about the camera.....bummer. I would call Ron Ballard or put a post in the turbine section, Ron usually responds very quickly to questions. The stumper is that it ran so well the first flight attempt. Glenn

RE: Thorpe F-20 build
Terry, When I used the paint it cured in just a few hours. Pretty much like the literature states. I am wondering if the humidity was to high? Also 3M makes a special Super LOW tac tape for paint trimming. it’s a light blue in color. I believe they also make a low tac tape. I forgot to mention the other day if you need markings , numbers etc., I have a digital cnc cutter.

RE: Thorpe F-20 build
Terry, you are right about the reducer. The instructions say to add after waiting 45 minutes. I got the idea of adding it when I mix the part A and part B together from a video that Dave Platt did. He was mixing everything all at once…. I guess either way works. You probably should follow Nate’s instructions

RE: Thorpe F-20 build
Terry, I forgot to mention I use one part thinner, one part hardener , and one part color. I put it in a bottle, and shake it well….then let it react for 45 minutes before spraying it.

RE: Thorpe F-20 build
Terry, I sprayed in my garage and used just a simple mask. It has charcoal filters on it, but a simple particle mask I think would be fine , especially outside. I did not clear coat. I do not think you will need to. The glossy hardener cures to a very glossy wet look. With the high temps. We are getting curing time will be shorter. Also watch the humidity. Check the website for the humidity warning you do not want the paint to blush, but this paint seems to tolerate a lot. The 106 and X-35 are ready but the weather has not been cooperating . I have been trying for a couple weeks to get the Jackal in the air but it has been either a heavy cross wind or HOT…for three weeks. Let me know when the big day comes for the first flight so I can video it. Glenn

RE: Thorpe F-20 build
Terry, Both my F=106A and my X-35B were painted with Klass Kote it works great. Very easy to work with. To get flat colors you need to add a flat powder to the hardner. The flat colors seem to set (cure) faster then the glossey ones. I did not use their primer, I just used automotive primer/filler in a spray can . Their plaints cover very well and you will be surprised how little paint it takes to cover a plane. I do recommend their thinner. I did use a cheaper thinner for cleaning my gun, however. Glenn

RE: Thorpe F-20 build
Ron, If you have any other Thrope brothers videos please put them up! I am presently working on a Thrope Mirage F1 which I increased by 10%. Made a mold of it about 15 years ago. Plane flew well with a fan, now I am building it for a turbine. Also make molds of the Thrope 104, and F18; all flew well with a fan system....if only the engines would have run better! One flight is just too short of a life!

RE: Thorpe F-20 build
Terry, Within minutes of mixing the plaster you have to get the plug out of the plastic canopy. If you wait too long it almost glues itself in. Then let it sit for a month or so. Put it near a heat source. Ten minutes might be right. you can sometimes fix the plaster plug with dap.

ICS numbers?
Eric, I purchased a USB cable so that I cold look at the data in the ICS. I understand , Cycle, temp, RPM in the text file but am not such about page, aux , throttle, and pump numbers. Can you shed any light on these four readings. The graphs and numbers are very interesting. Thanks Glenn

Billj, My UAT was a new Hanson. Tonight I opened it up and the parts in the middle were missing. They show a micro filter in the drawing all I had was a bag. What a rip off.. plane and simple......... Glenn

RE: Flame out /speedlow..HELP!
Billj, My friend Bobby and I spent about two hours on Saturday trying to find the problem. We called Eric , who was very supportive. We came up with a bad UAT........not really sure why it is bad. But after making the fuel line changes that Eric suggested we ran up the turbine and it flamed out. We removed the UAT and everything worked as advertised. Did about four runs without the UAT and it run well. We tried a pressure test by putting the UAT under water and inflating it....there were no bubbles, yet the turbine will not run with this UAT. I have a UAT hooked up in another plane with 75 flights on it and I am thinking of trying that UAT. I do want to run a UAT. Glenn

Eric, Thanks for the great support today. Its great knowing that there is such support behind the Jet Central products. With your guidance we found a faulty UAT. Without the UAT the turbine runs as advertised. I will order a new UAT on Monday. Once again thanks for the help. Glenn Corrie

Flame out /speedlow..HELP!
Eric, I hope you can come up with an idea and put me on the right track. I finally put my BeeII ks in my F-106A. Last week we tried to fly it. The turbine starts great no flame thanks to you! After about a 50 foot roll out, the turbine flamed out with a large, large puff of white smoke. We went back to the pits and ran it up two more times. Each time ended with a flame out. Using clear fuel line we could see no bubbles. I disconnected the UAT and ran the turbine . This time it ran up with no problem. In all honesty though , this run up only lasted about 30 seconds which maybe did not give the turbine time to go bad. The time lapse on the first flame out, the actual flight attempt, was probably two minutes in to the run. Anyway I removed the UAT checked it out resealed it and changed my fuel lines. Then replaced the UAT. I did a pump test on both lines and everything tested perfect. Lines were all purged of air. . The pump started slow and gained speed and quickly filled a small bottle. I then tried to run up the turbine. It started easily I increased to full power , I noticed no bubbles but after about 20 seconds or so white smoke and a flame out except this time the Hand data unit said speed low, not flame out! I let things cool down and tried another start. The turbine once again started perfectly but this time after about 10 seconds with the stick in the idle position it flamed out but not a lot of smoke this time. The hand held unit said Speedlow. The temp. was around 490 and rpms were 39000 which would trigger a shut down. No bubbles were seen. Any ideas or thought? Could I have a bad speed sensor? I can not understand why at nearly 180000 it would say speedlow? Thanks a million Glenn Corrie
