RE: ESM products?
I have the ESM Skyraider and am very happy with it. The fit and finish were very good. Granted the instruction we're the best but if you are putting one of these planes together you should have some experience and it shouldn't be an issue. As for this quote "I again would advise to stay away from them unless you have piloting skills to match their aerodynamics. " That basically applies to any of the warbirds out there, no matter who the manufacturer is. As far as the Beaver is concerned, I've built 3 different Beavers, none of them ESM, and they all need a lot of nose weight added. If you want the scale looks, which means a stubby nose, you're going to need to add quite a bit of weight up front regardless of if it's made by ESM or someone else.

RE: ESM, Ever Soaring Models Any Good?
I have the ESM Skyraider and am extremely pleased with the plane. Well built , nice paint, I did replace all the included hardware as I'm not thrilled with the quality of Chinese metal. I've dealt with a lot of brittle Chinese hardware before and didn't want to risk my plane for the minimal amount it would cost to replace it with quality hardware.

RE: 4 blade prop for 60 size P-51?
EMS Skyraider with a power 160 electric and a MAS 15.5x12 4 blade, Radar gun clocked it at 105mph. It's certainly not lacking in performance

RE: Large scale warbirds, best ARF for electric conversion?
Here's the pictures you asked for. The prop is a Master Airscrew 15.5 x 8. It was the biggest 4 blade I could find without getting into the high dollar blades

RE: Large electric warbirds 60 size plus,,,lets see em
Thanks, the hatch is on the bottom right behind the air scoop. The batteries are in there standing vertical right behind the firewall and I opened up the air scoop so it get all the cooling air it need in there as that is where I placed the ESC also. The mod was really easy and straight forward. Flying weight comes in at 16 lbs, and due to the placement of the batteries I got away without having to add any ballast for proper CG. Takeoffs at just over 1/2 throttle.

ESM A-1 Skyraider. Eflite power 160 and Castle Creations 85HV ESC with 2X 5s 5000mah batteries, turning a 15.5X12 MAS 4-blade prop. Retracts are Sierra Giant Scale

RE: Large scale warbirds, best ARF for electric conversion?
I converted the ESM Skyraider to electric. Made a hatch right behind the firewall for the batteries. I'm running an Eflite power 160 on 10s (2 x5s) CC 85Hv speed control and a scale 4 blade prop. I can comfortably fly around on 1/2 throttle. With flaps deployed she lands almost like a trainer.

RE: Gyro in Airplane ??
ORIGINAL: Oberst
ORIGINAL: warbird72 Wow Pete. Maybe stop and think, some people like differnt things.. Im really thinking of the gyro idea in my warbirds. I have lots of flying time under my belt..I have not flown for awhile but I wolnt lost it. like riding a bike . I love to play around with things. I like to invent stuff also. Try one out, You can always take it out.
My flying skills don't require any aid. I'm in full control of my aircraft at all times, except if something mechanical goes wrong, or if I do something stupid. If I can't handle a plane without electronic help like a gyro, I won't fly it because it shows that my flying skills are not up to par to handle the aircraft. Like someone said before, they don't allow use of gyros in any AMA competitions- there's a reason for that. So learn to use the rudder, on the ground and in the air, it will make you a better pilot. Pete
So you must not use a computer radio either, after all it's 'electronic help"

RE: Gyro in Airplane ??
Here's a site with all the info needed for setting up and installing a gyro in an aircraft . http://www.mycoolrc.com/gyro/indexnew.html I put a gyro on the rudder in my ESM Skyraider I can fly the rudder with no problem but this aircraft was a handful on take off (ground looping) Now it's straight down the centerline on takeoff, as soon as it's airborne the gyro get shut off. If everyone had the "gyros don't belong in aircraft, you need to learn to fly it" mentality. we'd still be living in the stone age.

RE: Adding Nose Weight
Just one, although you can fly it fairly slow, if you get it too slow it will drop a wing, but it recovers real easy as long as you have the altitude. I stalled mine on landing approach during my maiden. Luckily I was only a foot off the ground, almost to the runway when it happened so no damage other than a bent landing gear. So now I just carry a click or two of power on landing approach. I really enjoy mine. I'm currently converting mine over to electric power.

RE: Adding Nose Weight
I built this same aircraft several years ago . I sheeted and glassed mine. I had to add at least 20oz of lead to the nose ( can't remember exact amount) and flew it with an OS 91 four stroke. The plane doesn't even notice the weight, it just wants to fly. I usually cruise around at 1/4 throttle.

RE: elec help P51 Bluenose
In my opinion, for what it's worth, your wiring looks just fine. The only thing that I would do different is to put the flaps on a Y and plug into Aux 1 , then plug the ailerons into channel 1 and Aux 2. That way you could put aileron differential in. I do have a DX7 so maybe the DX8 is a little different.

I've repaired a Sig Midstar for a friend after he crashed it and need to know what the CG for this plane is as I would like to make sure it's still balanced after repairs. I looked on Sig's website and couldn't find any info and my friend bought it built so he doesn't have the plans

RE: OS 91 FS surpassII pumped
ORIGINAL: Bax O.S. doesn't sell the regulator as a separate part.
I know they don't, that was my point. Why don't they sell it. It's not a complicated item to replace, and shouldn't cost very much for the part. Instead I have two choices, buy a new carb body, since the regulator is attached to it, for $64 + shipping, or send it in to the factory for repair for around $100.

RE: OS 91 FS surpassII pumped
Through the process of elimination I was able to determine that the pressure regulator is the problem. Why doesn't OS sell the diaphragm for the regulator? You sell the cover for the regulator yet in the manual it states never disassemble the pressure regulator. Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't you disassembling the regulator if you remove the cover? A cover, a diaphragm , and two springs. Not exactly rocket science here. Instead of being able to replace the diaphragm, which can't be too awful expensive, you expect us to buy the whole carburetor body for $64.

I can't get it to run at any throttle setting except wide open, is the regulator shot or is it something else?

RE: Four star 40 Mods? 4*
ORIGINAL: w8ye Sounds as though you changed from a nose wheel to a tail dragger?
No, just replaced the main gear with the 4star 40 gear, still has the stock nose gear. The wire gear that the Avistar comes with is just so springy that if you don't set it don't perfectly on landing, it will bounce

RE: Four star 40 Mods? 4*
ORIGINAL: w8ye The bounce down the runway part is more in the order of landing technique & gear position than in the brand of landing gear
I gotta disagree with you, I removed the wire gear on my Avistair and replaced it with my old 4-star gear and now I grease all my landings instead of bouncing most of the time, haven't changed my style/technique of landing., just my landing gear

RE: Century jet retracts Question?
Definitely worth getting the valve. I use it on my CJ retracts and you can slow them down to where it looks more scale and they don't Slam up or down, plus you can vary the speed on each individual side so one side will retract faster/slower than the other side, just like the full size aircraft...really looks cool too

RE: Unionville Beaver 8' Kit tips
I sheeted and glassed my Beaver, weighs around 12 1/2# , It has an OS 90 FS and I fly it around at 1/4 throttle. It's a great kit and you shouldn't have any trouble building it, I built mine with- flaps and also installed the aileron and flap servos in the wing. I like it so much that I am getting the 6ft Beaver to build next. The only thing I don't care for is the way the wing struts are basically built into the fuslage. That I will change on the next build so they are removable from the fuselage

RE: blade grip question
On the Falcon3D you can remove both tail grips together from the tailshaft by removing the set screw that holds it on the tail shaft. in your second picture it looks like you have set screw, the brass colored item inbetween the blade grips. Or you might be able to remove each grip individually , there should be a screw or bolt inside the blade grip.. Remove the blade and look down in where the blade mounts. Hope that helps
