RE: RC Expert and shiiping times to the UK
Hi Mike, I bought an MX400 from them a month or two ago and found them fine. The kit was shipped quickly but a couple of items were out of stock at the time of shipping (metal tail housing and a set of carbon blades). These turned up within a couple of weeks. Have to say because I upgraded to eCCPM with carbon frames etc I seem to have loads of bits left and am tempted to build another using the standard items. Either that or I sell them and make the original purchase even cheaper. The only things I changed was to upgrade to eCCPM and to swap the motor esc to an align 35A model. Was pleased with my purchase and I believe I got good value for money. Import duty cost me £14, not bad really. Regards, Tony.

RE: Wren with smoke system
Jai, You could do away with the electric pump and batteries altogether by using case pressure from the engine. AMT use this method to great effect. Just take a pressure feed from the engine case via a valve (servo controlled) to the smoke tank. Opening the valve allows the engine pressure to drive the smoke liquid to the vapourising tubes at the back of the engine. Vey simple and less weight to lug around. I think there's even a drawing of the system on www.amtjets.com. Regards, Tony

RE: L39/Wren 44 Pics and video
David, I believe this is not advisable as nicads and NiMh batteries have different peak voltages. NiMh have a lower peak if I remember right so you run the chance of overcharging them in the long run. Best get a charger designed for NiMh in my opinion. Regards, Tony

RE: L39/Wren 44 Pics and video
Ian, That's the answer. You must pull out the element in the plug, at least two coils and make sure it glows really bright. After that you should fing it ignites much easier. Both my 54 and 44 light off really easy provided the plug is bright enough. Regards, Tony

Paul, Looking at the way the engine mount is screwed to the wing seat, do the screws not mark or prevent the wing from seating correctly? Just that it looks like the screw heads stand proud of the win seat surface. Regards, Tony

RE: L39/Wren 44 Pics and video
Volkan, Savex offer a number of options. To put it this way, mine with the carbon upgrade for turbine use, rudder, flaps, retract and fully painted was around £250. It depends on what options you want and whether you want to paint it yourself or not. If you email Vaclev he'll send you a current breakdown of the costs. Whichever way you look at it, this model is a gift at the price! Regards, Tony

Budgy, I don't think you've read that right. For Hysol 9461 it says 'Ideal for bonding dissimilar substrates like GRP, SMC and composites.' So it may well be a good cheaper alternative. Performance on the seperate spec sheets looks similar with identical peel values. Regards, Tony

Put it this way, it's not illegal but the BMFA insurance will not cover this type of powered model. At least it never used too when I got mine. Your other problem is the noise. Not everyone likes em [;)] Regards, Tony

RE: L39/Wren 44 Pics and video
Hi Paul, Well it looks like that picture was both our planes! Received mine at the same time and yes the quality is outstanding. I very pleased with it. Looking back through the pictures on the thread, I'm wondering how you anchored your flap servos? I can see tape over the edges of the cutout area and am assuming the servo is attached to the cutout section but how is the whole thing secured in situe? Can't see any screws. Any pics to clarify. Also how are you doing the elevators this time. One or two servos? Cheers, Tony

RE: L39/Wren 44 Pics and video
Paul, You've ordered the same colour scheme as mine. Bugger! ;-) Mine should be here very soon now. Ran my MW44 up a number of times now, what a complete jewel of an engine. It still amazes me that something can stay together at these sky high rpm's! Brilliant stuff. Do you know if that chap sold his yellow and brown L39? Regards, Tony

Well my MW44 turned up today. First time I've actually seen one in the flesh! Sure looks tiny even though I'm used to the MW54. No guesses what I'm doing this weekend [;)]. My L39 should be here next week so things are moving pretty quick now. Really looking forward to getting this one together. Tony.

RE: Jet Train?
Woketman, Wren provide a special FADEC ECU for the turboprop type engine. This is basically and additional ecu which monitors the power turbine statges and prevents overspeeding of the gearboxes etc. Unfortunately, I can't tell you more than that, maybe Gaspar's seen the thread and could give some more details. RE: Royal evo 12 feedback, heli?
Hi Derrick, I've had my Evo for 18 months or so and is complete with the synth module and scanner, both of which are excellent. In fact I'm just waiting to receive a new synth reciever too! As too what I fly, I fly both normal 2 stroke and turbine powered aircraft. I've also used it for heli flying with my Raptor. This radio is just superb once you get your head around how it works. The heli mode/template operates somewhat differently to what you're probably used too and it took me a little while to understand what was going on. Basically the collective is on the throttle stick and the throttle on the 'F' slider. Both operate entirely independantly until you engage a switch to activate the mixers. This way you can check the throttle response with out adding collective. Once the switch is engaged, moving the collective (i.e. throttle stick) up will still only increase collective pitch, not throttle as well. This had me completely puzzled for a while until I re-read the manual! With the collective stick down you now move the 'F' slider up to it's top position which increases the engine revs to a high idle(or whatever you set it too). Once this slider is at the top the throttle collective mixing is now active and advancing the throttle stick increases both the throttle and collective at the same time according to whatever parameters you have set with regard to curves etc. It probably sounds more complicated than it is. I hope this proves useful to you. All I can say is than I don't regret buying this radio one bit. It just keeps getting better and better. Quite literally with the software update facility! Regards, Tony

RE: World Model Speed record???
Hmm, 343 kmh = 212mph. Not bad for a piston engines plane back in the 70's. Most FAI or F1 pylon planes are easily capable of these speeds if not more in a straight line. As for turbines, I'd say easily exceeded. Maybe you missread the units? Regards, Tony (was a member of the team who set the Guiness record with the bandit)

Sounds like a job for an incidence guage. Something has to be out, either the wing or the stab. Mine arrives in a couple of weeks so will check before the first flights. Have you checked yours Paul? Regards, Tony

RE: Multiplex EVO Concerns
Personally I would not be put off. As you've said all radio's of one manufacturer or another have the odd bad one. I'm sure if this was a common occurance I'm sure we'd have heard of it by now. The fact that they can't make these radios fast enough to satisfy the demand must say something for the radio. I wouldn't buy equipment with a bad reputation for reliability. Talk to any of the multiplex users (myself included) would not go back to the asian radios. I'm very pleased with my Evo complete with Synth and scanner modules. Next is one of the sythesised receivers which have just become available in the UK. Don't let this put you off what is a superb radio. Try it and make your own mind up. You won't regret it. RE: Multiplex
The short answer is 'Yes'. However, if you live in the USA where you have positive and negative shift receivers then the answer is slightly different. It currently supports positive shift with negative shift being available in the next sftware update. There is a version of software available however that does cover both shifts which a third party has made available in the interim. Have a look at the 'HUGE' threads on this radio at [link=http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=135]RCGroups[/link] for all the info you are likely to need. I have an Evo 9 synthesised with the scanner module and just love this radio. The good news for me is that the synthesised receivers have now just become available over here in the UK. Cheers, Tony

RE: Finaly I did it ! I build my wren !!
Was the engine pre balanced? If not put your finger on the case when running to feel for any vibration. I know that if the balance id too far out the MW54 will not go above this rpm. Any other unusual noises or does it sound OK? Also what does the terminal show for the % power to the pump? Regards, Tony

RE: L39/Wren 44 Pics and video
Just thought I'd ask here first. If I could pick up one that nobody wanted then that's OK, but unlikely. Lets face it, we all like to save a few quid, just means we can buy a few more toys ;-) . It seems to me that the smaller engines are going to become more popular. The thought of being able to fit a plane in the car in one piece is very appealing and not spending an hour putting it together when you get to the field. My project for this summer will be the L39. It's just too good to pass on at the price. BFN Tony

RE: Finaly I did it ! I build my wren !!
Phil, If you have the autostart version just go with the settings wren advise. You will be ok, just go easy with the gas initially until you find the right amount. I use the fadec on mine and it's a breeze. I noticed in one of your pictures the restrictor is missing in the line to the bearing lubrication festo. Don't try and run it without it! You'll end up with a very wet start and flames everywhere. Good luck, Tony

RE: Finaly I did it ! I build my wren !!
If you're going to use an auto start ECU then the ECU will apply a breaking effect to snap the bendix back and ensure it dissengages. If you're using the starter manually you could arrange a switch so that in one position it supplies power to the motor and in another shorts the motor accross the motor terminals. This should provide a breaking effect and snap the bendix away from the compressor nut. Make sense? Regards, Tony

RE: L39/Wren 44 Pics and video
A multoplex Evo can also do all of the above at half the cost of the ZAP plus you can have a fully synthesised set up which is really neat. I also have the built in scanner which is very useful. I used to be a dedicated futaba user but have now switched to Multiplex for the extra flexibility and range you get. In fact I still have one of my futaba sets but it doesn't really get used anymore. On another note. Does anyone know if anybody has a MW44 for sale? It seems that people tend to hang on to these little gems but it's worth asking. Regards, Tony
