RE: New York - Model Shops (Selling Heli's)
The web is cheaper then NYC. If you are heading to Queens, there's a nitro track at Kissena Park and an airfield in Corona park. You can ask the locals for shop recommendations. If you are using the phone book, call the shop up first. Most shops tailor to cars only. In my experiences, Brooklyn Hobbies is more expensive then the internet.

RE: Which LiPo Charger?
What I mean is you should buy a charge that can charge at 1C not more and not less since lipo should not be charged at more then 1C. If you get a charger that charges at 1/2C then it will take 2 hours to charge. So I'm at the field with my lipo and 1C charger. I fly my 15 minutes and then have to charge wait 1 hour for my battery to charge before I can fly again. If it was a 1/2C charger, I'd have to wait 2 hours. Please note this is not relavent if you are using NiCads since it's quite safe to charge them at 4C or higher.

Just check your tx manual. If it supports heli eccpm and is negative shift, it will work with esky stuffs. You just need to get the right channel crystal.

RE: Which LiPo Charger?
You do not need the top end chargers unless it is your intention to charge the lipos at greater then 1C. Since your Trex's lipo is in the 2000mA range, any lipo balancing charger at 2000mA will do just fine. Any charger rated less then the mA rating of your lipo will work too. But if you get a charger at 1/2C then it will take 2 hours to charge which means you'll be waiting 2 hours between flights while you're at the field.

The other is proportional. Adjust one or both should fix your problem. If you want to go for DD, there is a complete kit available for only a few $$$. No dremel + whatever required.

RE: Using a rate gyro with motor driven tails. What am I doing wrong?
I think your ics50 is also going to be a problem. Don't skim on the tail esc, buy a good one to use with an expensive gyro. The problem with ics50 is if I recall correctly it only has 16 throttle points (corresponding to 16 clicks on the throttle stick). Ex, your tail needs to be at 7.5 to hold the heading but the esc can only send 7 or 8 so you will get some wagging.

RE: Why not 4 stroke?
You can't say 4 stroke engine is 1/2 as efficient as a 2 stroke engine because it has more non-power producing cycle. In fact a 4 stroke engine has 3 non-power producing 'strokes' (intake, compress, exhaust) so that would make it 1/3 as efficient compare to 2 stroke engine by your theory. The same is true for rpm. Yes the HS is very important but that doesn't require the engine to have high rpm. Just like Edge pointed out, "heavily geared", you can simply gear a low rpm engine to produce the same high HS. I do not know the answer to Edge's question but I always thought that 4-stroke engine runs on regular gasoline. 2 stroke runs on glow fuel which carries it's own oxygen for burning (think of glow as adding nitro to your car). Engine running on glow fuel is more powerful then on gasoline.

RE: TRex looses hight when steering
Use the governor mode. If not, setup throttle-rudder mixing. Changing the tail blades' pitch has the same effect as changing the main blades' pitch because they are all mechanically connected to the same motor.

You should buy a trex considering a properly equipped trex is just a few $10 more then a 36 or hb cool. Or you could get hb king if you just want to upgrade to cp and no motor tail.

RE: Micro Heli Blade Balancer?
It's not the difference that matter but the proportional ratio. 2 grams is twice as much as 1 gram and so is 200kg twice as much as 100kg even thought you won't feel the difference between 2g and 1g while you won't be to lift 200kg but 100kg is managable. Buttom line is doesn't matter how small/light it is, you need to balance the blades. In fact, the smaller/lighter it gets, the more important it is to get the perfect balance because the scale is smaller. Off by 1/8 inch in a .30 size probably won't be noticable too much, but off by 1/8 inch is going to be quite different on a micro.

RE: Adding LED Lights. How To.
You can buy wire strippers from your hardware store ranging for $2 to $20+. If you are uncomfortable with stripper thin wires, buy the more expensive stripper which pretty much gaurantees perfect stripping every time. The expensive strippers have locking mechanism and dedicate slots for different gauge wires. There are also smaller heat shrink tubes made for the thinner wires. I think radio shack may still carry them. The wires you'll be using should be stranded and pretty thin so just twist them together, apply solder and shrink.

RE: Help - HB CP2 barely lift off after Brushless upgrade
Stock tx from HB CP1 doesn't go from 100% on the high end. What I mean is with the throttle stick at max high, it doesn't transmit 100% throttle signal to the rx. I know you have a CP2 but it should be the same tx as CP1. This means you can't get into programming mode with your tx. I believe there is a thread somewhere on how to hack it. Alternatively you could just connect the esc to one of the other channels like 1, 2 or 4 to setup the ESC. You definitly want to remove the motor from the heli before you try to do this.

Flybar paddles should have 0 pitch. One good way to do this is to spin it up to full speed with main blades disconnected and then place your hands above and below the paddles to feel for any kind of wind.

RE: CP Dual Motor Wiring?
Try them in series first. Switch to parallel only if response is too slow or not enough tail authority. Both configurations will used up the same amount of power but the series configuration will only require 1/4 peak power compared to parallel. Series is obviously better for the esc and motors but with slower response.

If your arial photography involves being able to turn the camera while the heli is in mid air then no. If you just want to shoot where the heli is pointing then yes. Optic 6 will also work with all helicopter with standard receivers which I believe the blade 4-in-1 uses.

I don't think you'll be able to get it perfect unless you have a computer radio with curves. Also you may try adjusting the gain if there is one. For my 4-in-1 I just adjusted it so that it keeps the tail steady at hover. Compensate with rudder for everything else.

RE: Installing diods on HB tail motor.. Help..
To from 3 to 2 cell while keeping the same HS means a 50% increase in amp draw and teeth of pinnion. The relationship is set because the product of Kv and Kt is always constant. HS=effiency * Battery Volt * Kv * # of teeth of pinnion / teeth on main gear If you goto 2 cell, the battery volt is now 2/3 therefore pinnion must be 3/2 more. If you turn the equation to use Kt instead, you'll notice Battery Amps increase to 3/2 more. BTW take the electrical measurement with a grain of salt. Most people just use a regular multimeter to get the readings which is mostly invalid since it doesn't have the resolution to measure high frequency high power demands of the ESC. Yes I did do a conversion to align electronics for my HB CP (not version 2). I used all align stuffs 25A esc 400sf motor (needs to widen the mounting space on the frame of the HB) HH gyro gws esc for the tail and 280 motor for the tail I'm currently flying on 3 cell Li-Ion (the metal cylinder types I took from my old laptop) with 13t and pitched PE blades (living room hovering) The pitch (the right word I hope) for the gear is 0.5. Do verify this so that your gears with mesh. Most asian stuffs are .5 You should choose the pinnion using the equation above assume effiency to be about .8-.85 I have no idea of the Kv of stock motor or stuck HS but target for about 2000 should do it.

RE: BEC to Gyro?
All ground and Vcc pins are connected together. That is it doesn't matter where you connect your BEC to (any channel on the rx, output to the esc/servo on the gyro etc). You do however only want to connect one BEC only. You shouldn't need to cut the red wire from the pheonix, you should be able to just disconnect it from the black connector. Use a small flat head screwdriver to lift up the plastic slightly and just pull the red one out. Just make sure you insulate and find a good place to keep the dangling wire.

HH gyro is supposed to creep when the engine is idle. Just make sure you set it up correctly. The gyro needs to be mounted vertically not horizontally according to the instructions.

The Trex manuals will list the suggest values for the pinion based on Kv. Take anyone of those value pairs, multiple them together and divide it by the Kv of your motor. The answer is # of teeth you need. That's for 3 cells battery. If you use 4 cells, just times it by 3/4.

RE: Pitch gauge/Pitch curve question...
deli_conker, your numbers are not good at all. I seem to remember there are only 214 distinct positions for a channel and since swash is already limited to about 30%, you end up with about 60 positions. If your curve is maxxed at 22% then you are left with only about 12 distinct positions. If your pitch range is -12 to 12 then the finest movement range is 2 degree. It's going to be very hard to get your heli to hover if you can do it at all. Most likly you are going to be shoot up and falling down with high speed and nothing in between. It's sounds very much likly that your helicopter isn't mechanically sound. And a mechanically unsound machine is harder to control and flys poorly and could easily result in a crash. You need to fix it before you fly it. Also all CP machines should be able to go from -10 to +10. Otherwise what's the pont of CP? And it's defintely possible to set it up to go the full range mechanically. There's an old saying. One learns to be a heli mechanic first, pilot second. Oh yea, I never had to position my stick while I setup the pitch curve because I know my pitch goes from -12 to +12 and that's 0 to 100% so if I wanted -8, -4, 2, 6, 10 pitch curve I just use a calculator to calculate the %. That's roughly 16, 32, 56, 72, 92.
