Looking good Dallas!... That Prop is a MONSTER!!!!... should look rather nice under the stern though.. Oh.. and that wheelhouse looks vaguely familiar!.. Are you going as the plan or are you going more scale with the wheelhouse and its roof?

You need to strip it back to bare wood and glass it inside and out... that way you wont be having to do remedial work at a later stage..

RE: How Do You Lay Your Fiberglass?
It depends on what you are trying to glass... For a flat easy one piece deck (CC type) then a one piece light mat is preferable... If its a complicated mold, then crumpled pieces of mat should be used and worked in to the 'corners'...

RE: PAINTING 101
ORIGINAL: stackeddeck can you tell me about... metal fleck paint (the sparkly stuff) where can I get it? can i put it on myself? You can get a kind of metalflake from car parts stores, just like some car touch up spray cans.. You would be best to put the paint on the boat rather than on you... shiny car paint ... can i buy it in the can?if so can I at home depot or hobby lobby or hobby town. Yes, the car parts store should have a variety.. I doubt Home despot carries car type paing, though they do carry a range of spray paints. Most model shops should carry some paints too.. though maybe more limited colors. do IÂ need to prime the boat before I paint? (im painting on wood if you didn't know) Yes, at least two coats of primer (over glass?) on wood.. do I need to put some gloss or clear coat on top of whatever I use? That would be an advantage to keep the finish looking good. what difference between an airbrush and spray paint? is airbrush worth it? An Airbrush is worth it... but you will need to spend some $$$'s to get a good one and a compressor. Start with spray (rattle) cans and see how you get on with those.. what are some ways to do designs such as stripes or zig zags on a boat with using spray paint... can this be done free handed easily with an airbrush? Generally, masking off and spraying areas over the base color. It can be done free hand with an airbrush.. but only by an expert. The rest of us have to mask off areas... just any helpful info on painting a wooden boat would be greatly aprpeciated.. just wanted to get some background info on it so I can make a educated decision on what paint to buy.. Just make sure the hull (wood) is well sealed prior to painting. I'm assuming you are glassing the hull... Spray in light coats, allow time for the first couple of coats to 'go off' before you add more paint.
Central California Coast Model Boats
Shaun H and I had a very successful chat over lunch earlier today to discuss the possibility of setting up a Model Boat group in the form of a 'club' covering the Central Coast area of California. As far as we are aware, there are no model boat groups between San Francisco and the Hansen Dam Irregulars in Northern LA. We decided that our first objective would be to gauge how many boat modellers there are in the Central Coast area and if they would be interested in forming a model group. Our aim would be (as a group) to secure some water's from one of the local City's that we would be able to run Sail, Electric and possibly gas / nitro on.. as well as welcome builders of static model boats. There was also discussion regarding a 'Monthy' formal meeting where we could discuss building / running of boats and share our knowlege between the different disciplines. These meetings could possibly take place at a local school (with a pool ) where we could also get the kids involved in the building of model boats. If there are boaters out there that are interested in such a group and live within the Central Coast area, please PM either Shaun or myself. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/member.php?u=43646 http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/member.php?u=111667

RE: Newbie mode 1 advice.
ORIGINAL: Hoverglide I am a newbie at radio control gliding, & would like some advice regarding a mode 1 setup. Basically, I have a Futaba 4 channel radio control &, a 2 channel rudder/elavator glider. Should I be setting it up so each control has it`s own stick, or should I learn using the rudder/elavator on just the left stick?
It depends on a couple of things... Search out the local RC'ers and find out how they do it. You WILL need assistance, and handing the Tx to someone who has controls on different sticks is a receipe for disaster. If you are right handed, you will naturally want to hold the glider to launch in your right hand.. using your left to control elevator. The primary direction control (be it rudder or aileron) is usually on the right stick when using Mode 1...
