RE: CMpro Extra 330L 50 ARF
This a great plane to fly. It just need some speed on landing. I crashed my after a couple of flights, but it was repairable. My first CG was at 90mm as the manual said, but it was too tail heavy. So the next one was at 85mm. It went O.K. until the motor turned off. Now I'm flying at 75mm and it works great. I have the Super Tigre G90 on it and it has unlimited vertical. But I still had to put 80g of lead under the engine.

RE: Extra 330L 50 size
Today I took the small Extra out of the corner, where I put it since the crash and put it back together. Flew two rounds today and I was suprised. This plane is a great flyer but needs some speed at landing.

RE: Extra 330L 50 size
I too am going to put this plane in a corner. I flew it again but my engine was not good with throtle response at landing, that's why it crashed from about 1 meter and opened the fuselage where the wheals are mounted. I am not going to waste my time with the repairs. Instead I bought a Staudacher GS 600 from Protech (1.85m wingspan) and will try to make this plane instead of the small Extra.

RE: Extra 330L 50 size
I agree with camcclellan. The plane is a great flyer, but you need speed for landing. Yesterday I crashed my plane at landing. I came in from a not a approach and when trying to correct it I reached the stall speed and when I wanted to give it more power from the engine, the engine died on me. It fell down from about 1 meter and destroyed my fuselage where the wheels where mounted. I will never buy another plane this size with so big wing loading. I don't even want to repair it..... I'm very piss.. off.

RE: Extra 330L 50 size
Just flew today with my new Super Tigre .91 engine on this plane. The engine is great - no vertical limit. But then the muffler went loose and the carburator also. I must fasten the screws with Loctite and then I will try again. I let you all know how it will go.

Great to see you guys still work on this project. I've built my own, but i can not get the transformer part anywhere(can not wind it my self).

RE: Extra 330L 50 size
Hey Cam..., what happened with your plane, why you crashed? Today was my maiden flight. Unfortunatly i don't have any pictures. Here are my experiences. I didn't quite read this post (didn't remember what cam... said in the posts above), and I followed the building instructions. I've put a 61 Magnum engine on it and tried to reach the CG at 90mm (90-96mm said the manufacturer). The engine was not heavy enough to reach that CG. So I put the 75 Magnum on it, and even this engine was not heavy enough to reach the CG at 90mm. So I put arround 180 gramms of lead(Pb) from car alloy wheels (used for centering the wheels) on the engine mount horizontaly. This made me reach the CG at 90mm. I put the elevator at 60% and went flying. The plane was still tail heavy and extremly responsive on the elevator stick. My landing ended at too low landing aproach speed (I even turned off the engine.... stupid me....) and the plane stalled and fall down on the ground from arround 1-2 meter of height. The aluminium tube which goes through the wings bended a little, and the fuselage got some damage where the wheels are attached to it. Otherwise everything else was not damaged. Then I turned the lead(Pb) weight verticaly at the tip of the engine mount, producing more weight at front, and the CG came at 85mm. I put the elevator to 45% and went flying again. The planes flew beautyfully. But at the landing you must come with quite some speed. My total weight of the plane with 180 gramms of lead came to arround 3.5 kg. I am thinking on buying a new Super Tigre G90 engine, which is a bit heavier (100 grams) than the one i use now and put an onboard glow driver in the plane, just to lose the lead(Pb) on the engine mount, and get extremly more power. I will repair the plane in a week and report further. I hope these helps somebody else too, but do not make the same mistake as I did and read all of this topic. The CG of this plane is not like it says in the building manual.

RE: Extra 330L 50 size
I too have got my Extra 330l 50 size today, that I bought over the internet just from the pictures, without really even seeing this plane. I must say that I have never seen more beautifull model in this size. The planes body is very good made, just the wings appear small. I am not used to this size of Extra, since I have a 90-size and 140-size. I was thinking on putting a Super Tigre 51 or Magnum 61 on this plane. I also have a Magnum 75-size, but I think it would be too much for this plane.... Has anybody made any improvement of this kit? I don't like how the wings are fitted to the body. I would be very happy for some information on how to build it. Should I follow the instruction manual or do some improvements. Also where i see the problem, is the pilot cabine fitting, which is the same as in their 140-size. I don't want to fit the pilot cabine with four screws...... If you have any pictures of the making please post it. Greetings from Slovenia, Tomi

RE: AK-Models GOOD? BAD? UGLY?
Hello, my name is Melita and I would like to order three ARF models from you. I am interrested in CMPRO Extra 300S (90) and Flymodels Ultimate 40 and CMPRO Extra 330L 50-size, which is not on your web page, but CMPRO manufactures them. Can you tell me if you have the last Extra (330L 50-size) and if it is possible to ship this 3 models to Europe (Slovenia). Thanks, Melita
ORIGINAL: Bigboat I find this transformer in a old computer-powersource. I use also normal scotch-tape, I don't dip the coil jet.....first it have to work properly (thats now)
Hey Bigboat, nice web page you have done. Just a question about the transformer. Is that form an AT or ATX power supply? What next did you do with that transformer. Did you leave the original coil or did you wind a new one on it? Thanks, Tomi

What toroid coil did you use. Have you went with the one JMJ used. What ferrite dimensions, wire dimensions, number of windings did you use? Have you used the optional C7 capacitor and if yes what value?

RE: Opensource CDI ignition
Thanks to jmj I will try to make my own CDI ignition. But after looking at layoutPCBv10 I found I don't quite understand the schematics. Can you explain to me what all that external connectors are for? It will be very helpful to me and maybe to another reader. What is connected at this connectors (or what does it mean): SV5 - Strobe SV6 - Hall SV7 - Test X2 - To power X3 - From Signal SV1 - Power SV4 - Coil Sorry but my English is not so good, so I don't quite understand this scientific terms. Where do you connect the cable from the spark plug ? (and what is it called in English)? Thanks for your help.
