RE: 3w 80xi comp series overheating
well im done worrying about it now, when i bought it mathematically a 9 hp motor should kick around 40lbs of thrust with a vess 27a at my altitude, and im only getting around 33 lbs of thrust, the motor im sure is fine just not enough power for my needs so i guess i will have to sell it and get a 100cc

44lbs is great, i haven't cheeked my thrust in a wile, the motor should be getting close to max performance by now, i have a vess 27a on the way and i will be checking the thrust again this week end with that, like i said the vess 26a was getting around 33lbs and on a 23lb plane and punch out sucks.

i didn't think about checking the bore until the day after the motor was back together, it would have been a good idea had i thought to check the bore wile i had the head off because one of the old rings was a little burnt showing signs of blow by, but the temp has come down after the re build and maintains about 225' verses 240'-250' F.

RE: 3w 80xi comp series overheating
im only going off what others have said they got on rpm 6700 - 7200 with a 27x10, that's why i felt mine was under powered getting the same rpm with the 26a, but i am starting the break in over, i only ran 1 gallon of 32:1 break in to seat the rings, now im on 50:1 knowing the rings are not 100% broke in yet, but it is picking up rpm daily, Sunday i got 7050rpm with the 26a and backed it down to 6890 for flying, (witch produces 34lbs of thrust according to my fish scale) i guess im glad to here the motor is not a complete failure, but still under powered for my needs as a 3d pilot, im at 4500' feet so this motor would do a lot better closer to sea leave

RE: 3w 80xi comp series overheating
i have only dwelt with about 12 gas engines thus far and none of them have ever gotten up to that kind of temp, but after a hard flight on the 80xi, i can drop the throttle to an idle and float by with out the motor skipping a beat, there is no indication of overheating other then the temp gun. so saying its not overheating is kinda what i was hoping for, but it dose still have a strong lack of power, 6900rpm with a 26a is horrible at 4500 feet, i should get that and maybe more with a 27b thanks all for all your input

i set the timing at 0' degrees for the red (north pole) witch makes the green (south pole) 55' degrees according to the 3w manual, im not using a CH ignition im using a 3w so i don't think the 28' degrees would apply, (but i could be wrong) i will check and see if the censer will hit 28' degrees

3w 80xi comp series overheating
I recently bought a used 3w 80xi comp series motor here on RCU and it over heats, rather its on the ground or in the air, depending on how hard i fly it it gets between 225' and 260' degrees, i put new rings a new reed and carburetor kit in, i cleaned all the carbon off the piston and out of the head, it still overheats, with in 5 minutes just trying to tune it on the ground it starts overheating and i have to shut it down so its not a baffling issue, i cant find an air leek, plus it only has the power of a 60 or 70cc motor, 6900rpm and 34lbs of thrust with a 26a vess, what am i missing here?????

RE: 2008 yak 54 56in CG?????????
sorry to say but i really don't think john knows, (lmao) so i set it a 1/3 back from the LE = 5" right on the wing tube, it flew great with an OS 91, i think it was a little tail heavy (but still flew great), it floats real nice, it was fast with a 13x4w (too fast) so i will prop up and take a bite out of the RPM. loose the wheel pants if you can live with out them they don't secure very well and end up flopping after the first flight. HOPE THIS HELPS.

RE: Lanier 94" Yak help
ORIGINAL: Mitsu1 I haven't flown yet, but I'm wondering about the CG as well. I have two fairly hefty batteries in the recess just before the engine box and I'm balancing just aft of the 7 1/4" rearward range the manual gives. I noticed in 2robinhoods video he said he was having a time slowing the plane down enough to land like he wanted. I don't remember if he said where it balanced at, but a forward CG makes 'em want to come in a little hotter. (?) It sure didn't look like a forward CG though from what I remember. I'm inclined to believe the balance range in the book is safely forward without saying so.
very nice looking bird mitsu1, my cg is 7 6/16" back, but i will be moving it back another 1/2" to 7 14/16" for tomorrow, my fuel tanks site right in the middle of the CG, my maiden flight resulted with no elevator trim, 1 click right aileron, a very nice flight, and she landed very nice and slow, my low idol was at 1,390 rpm before my flight and was at 1320 when i landed, and the rest of the day all my Renaults were comparable, you cant go wrong with the rear CG

RE: Lanier 94" Yak help
ill be running 100cc motor with 2 x 22oz tanks, (1 for smoke) and @ 2.5 oz of fuel a min. ill get 7.5 min. of flight with 1 min to land (LOL), but ill probably go with an added 8oz hopper fuel tank on top of the two just in front of the CG. its a tight fit but it will work. FYI troy built dose sell an after-market gear but more research is needed to make sure they will work.

RE: Yak 54 50cc Giant- anyone have one?
i know this thread was started two months ago, but here is my two cents any way. the elevators might support low profile servos if you re-enforced the stab. i left my servos in the fuse, i used ball-links for quick removable stabs, im running a 3w 50i, today was my maiden with great Renaults, the new motor needs broke in still, and the whole package will perform better and better as the motor breaks in, the plane with 3 battery's and a smoke system weighs 18.5 lb and even though im running the motor rich the plane will hang on the prop at just a little more then 3/4 stick, the plane comes out a little tail heavy so i moved the motor an extra 1/2" forward and put all three battery's on the motor block, after a few more flights i will refine the CG from 6 5/8" to where i feel its flying good for my ability or lack there of. over all it flys great........

RE: CMP Yak 54
i built this kit for a guy last fall i think the cg is about 4.7",as far as the canopy i built a frame inside of it and atached it with a nose pin and two screws at the back, other wise per the instructions you secure it right to the fus with six screws, and i vented the motor with a nice half circle in the bottom of the cowl........hope this helps

RE: Funtana X100
ZIPPI the O.S 120 fits perfict, well as far as im concerned. one small hole in the side for my glow stick to fit into, but the bottom needs some tooling, i have the pits muffler so i had to cut a hole across the bottom front where the can lays and then a larger oblong hole for the pipe's, but it still looks clean.
ORIGINAL: Zippi Will the OS 120AX fit inside the cowl or does a hole have to be cut? Anyone have any pics of the side of the cowl if it has to be cut and the bottom for cooling?
RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
hay jephry if you are in SINGAPORE, then you are pretty close to sea level and i would say the 50fx will be plenty of motor for the bobcat, if you are gonna use the 91fx i would not use smaller then a 11+ prop, in fear of over tacking the motor with a 10x8 (just my 2cents) im using a ys-45 at about 4,500 feet and im getting 80-90+mph.

Midwest Cap 232 REBUILD
I recently acquired a 1/4 scale Midwest Cap 232 to finish building for a friend, and it came with no instructions, it is mostly assembled, but i need some info if some one could help. I need the CG. I need the distance from the thrust washer to the fire wall. and I'm using a moki 1.8 and someone at my club said the center line for that motor might be a little different.??? IF any one can help with these small issues.. i thank you!

SJN: if you throw a tuned pipe on that Magnum 65 i think you will be allot happier with your speed, my ys-45 + tuned-pipe don't look so pretty on the ground, but in the air you don't even notice it, I'M getting 90+ with my 45 so that Magnum 65 should rock with a tuned pipe. don't get me wrong all the 61+ motors should do great, in fact i would like a bigger motor, but dew to my retract setup i lost 3/4 of a inch in clearance, so I'm pretty much stuck with the 10 in prop

i put my tank in with the rubber stopper toward the rear, facing the engine, but inside the tank i bent some aluminum tubing into a 90 and spliced it into the middle of the silicone tubing so the clunk is in the rear under the rubber stopper. 3 flights and it seems to be ok.
