RE: 30cc Edge 540 build
Since my only experiance with the planes you mentioned is with the Aeroworks 30cc Edge I can't make comparisons. I can say the the AW 30cc Edge kit is a pretty high quality kit compared to most I have played with, and it flys great.

lock washers
I have stumbled across these new lock washers. They work unbelievably well in high vibration applications. The link I am adding is just the company I have used I think there is another brand called Nord lock. I have done some testing with them and am really impressed I now supply supply them with the products I sell (nothing to do with rc stuff). I will install them in all my engine mounting applications. http://www.heico-lock.us/

RE: 30cc Edge 540 build
Not sure about the sesitive elevator. Im going to guess if you ballanced well you like it better with more expo. I always fly with full rate flight controls with lots of expo I run like 65%. As for the engine didn't notice mine angled up. Did your prop flang come out in the center of the cowl hole. Also as far as bolts backing out try some of these they will not back off the work great for hight vibration. http://www.heico-lock.us/

RE: DLE 30 dieing at full throttle
Ok, just ran a tank through it. It didn't die but i'm still not convinced yet I'll get another couple tanks through it then I will feel better. Couple things still I feel are not right still, when I chop the throttle it comes to idle around 2100-2200 after about 15-20 seconds it will then begin to settle down to about 1700-1800. Also the low speed needle is only open 5/8 turn thats pretty far away from the 1.5 thats supposed to be the norm (I'm at sea level).

RE: DLE 30 dieing at full throttle
I'll give it a whirl without the valve before I swap carbs, I'm sure its not sucking air as I would see the air in the line. There is not much else it could be but the fueling valve. Ive been a little busy at work so I have not had much time to mess with it. I'll report back with what I find.

RE: DLE 30 dieing at full throttle
It does it in air and on ground, with or without cowl. Carb looked clean inside, blew out passages reassembled but have not tried it yet but i dont think it's going to be good as I didn't find anything wrong. If it doesnt work i'm going to put a Walbro that i have on it. I havent tried the Walbro yet because I'll have to swap throttle and choke shafts. The Walbro is off of a new Zenoah g26, looks the same except for the shafts and the venturi looks slightly bigger. I worry about the larger venturi causing a poor idle. The airplane is an Aeroworks 30cc edge and the fuel system is from the kit with the exception of a Dubro fueling valve its the Dubro 335 model Im thinking it may be restricting fuel flow at full throttle.

RE: DLE 30 dieing at full throttle
Sounds like its time to open up the carb must be something in there. Im sure its not an air leak, to affect full throttle it would have to be a massive air leak and not run worth a crap at low throttle settings plus air leaks tend not to be intermittant. I guess I didn't explain in the first post of symptoms that I will run fine for long periods of time at full throttle then all of a sudden have the issue.

how does an engine act when ign. batt dies
How does an engine act when the ignition battery dies? Do different ignitions act different? Is it a spit sputter and die, an instant off, a slow drop in power or what?

RE: DLE 30 dieing at full throttle
Hmm, battery, didn't think about that I am running a 4.8 battery for ignition, maybe the full throttle ignition current is pulling the battery down. Woulkd those be the symptoms of a dieing ignition battery, to slowly die as if it leaned out.

DLE 30 dieing at full throttle
Having a little trouble with my new DLE 30. I have almost a gallon through it and has been giving me trouble since the first tank. Aside from what I think is a little excess vibration I can adjust the engine to run great with good smooth transition. I have put a cm-6 plug and checked timing previously, am running a 19x8 Xoar (predrilled for free from Valley View, thanks Jody). While running at full throttle the motor will (what sounds like) slowly lean out and die. First you will hear it drop a few hundred rpm then after 5 seconds or so it will slowly die. I also noticed in flight (which was a post from the other day) I will drop rpm in a bank turn for some reason. A few times it has recovered from its initial rpm drop but most the time it dies, there are no bubbles in fuel line and the tank vent is clear. This is all happening with what seams to be a well tuned engine. I think its acting like it would if the fuel tank vent where plugged. Trash in the carb? I am dealing with all new stuff, fuel cans, lines, pump ect. but I guess that doesn’t really mean anything.

RE: ignition module test results
I'm not saying this with experiance as I have not done it but The manual and Hobbico tech support says you can run the new ignitions with a LiFe battery without reducing the voltage. I Also considered doing a test myself on a running engine and ploting the current draw across rpm with a different graph for the different input voltages.

RPM drop in bank turn?
I’m running a DLE 30 and for some reason when I'm flying strait and level with no change in throttle input, when the plane makes a bank turn the rpm drops. Its more than just a little if I had to guess I’d say 700 rpm or so. It doesn’t sound like its leaning out, sounds more like richening if anything.

DLE 30 19x8 Xoar, beech or laminated?
Hoping Jody or TOM can chime in on this one. Had a beech one, but broke it today on a dead stick landing, for the negligable price differance if the laminated is better I'll go that way this time. BTW I purchased it from Valley View the free pre drill is a very nice add on, I was nice to just bolt it on and go.

RE: 30cc Edge 540 build
Just got home from maidening the new Edge, in summery the plane flies great but I'm having some motor trouble, two of five flights where dead stick and engine speed was a little eratic on all flights without moving the throttle stick. The engine runs and transitions great on the ground however the idle will bump up a few hundred rpm after sitting a 20 seconds or so, even after corecting for it by richening the low speed neadle to the point it does not run good. Both dead sticks where a result of engine dieing under power as if it where too lean. Also a little unhappy with the vibration level of the engine, maybe that will settle a little more in time, currently I have about 4 tanks throug the motor. I think I'm going to check my timing. It may be too advanced.

RE: New DLE 30 idle issue
ORIGINAL: jedijody Remove the idle speed screw altogether, if the throttle valve is closing completely and and the engine does not die it's getting air somewhere it shouldn't. The most common problem I've seen on the DLE30 when this happens is the throttle valve retaining crew may not be tight enough and the valve has slipped out of position slightly preventing it from closing tight. Remove the carb and look at the valve from the back side and insure it's closing all the way, if not, gently loosen the screw about 1/8th turn, get the valve in the proper position and re-tighten the screw completely. It will not loosen again on it's own, if it does call your selling dealer.
Good call Jody, the screw was tight but the plate was out of position. I loosened the screw and repositioned the plate so no light showed around the perimeter and that took care of it.

RE: 30cc Edge 540 build
Muffler hitting cowl, Even after grinding more off the muffler than I am comfortable with the muffler still rubs the cowl. If you want the muffler inside the cowl you may try this. I remounted my engine farther back and my prop flange is flush with the face of the cowl. Then I made a prop spacer for prop/spinner clearance. Or you could just cut the cowl, I just couldn't bring myself to do it. Or am I the only one with this problem? Bemeson did just grinding give you enough clearance?

RE: New DLE 30 idle issue
ORIGINAL: w8ye The engine would not be useful to idle any lower
Are you serious??? For starters throttle cut doesn't work, the plane has too much idle thrust as it is, it could have a partial vacuum causing poor idle performance, and most of all it ain't right, the throttle plate should be able to limit the air to the piont where it will kill the engine.

New DLE 30 idle issue
Got a tank an a half through a new DLE 30 and it will not idle down past 1700. Idle screw is out to the point the throttle plate is what is stopping the throttle. How is the air getting in? Throttle plate misalignment from factory? Anyone else experiance this.

RE: 30cc Edge 540 build
ORIGINAL: bemeson I figured I misplaced my clips. I got two as well. It was no big deal because I have a little case from Harbor Freight that had a bunch so I did not loose any sleep over it. My 30 was very easy to tune and you will get better perfomance as you run a few tanks few. You will notice that you will have to continue to idle down your motor and then you will be able to lean the top a bit more. I am not sure I got the oh yea factor as with HelivdD, but it is a powerful motor. This is the main reason I could not understand the previous posts asking for a bigger motors. The plane is light and the motor is good which makes for a good combination in my hubble opinion. I have a micro cam and I hope to mount it to the plane and I will post some footage with the camera on the plane when it warms up around here. It has been in the 30's this weekend. Thats too cold for me. Brian
Look forward to seeing the footage. I have mounted my droid smart phone on a Sportster I have, the video was not that good but I used a google program called tracks that used the gps to give a map of it's path, top speed, avg speed, and a map of altitude and speed across time during the flight. I spent a day fooling with it, changing props and comparing speed and climb rate to pitch.
ORIGINAL: Wingspam
ORIGINAL: Wingspam I really like the look of this plane but what is the AUW coming in at with the DLE 30? I recently lost my 80'' Geebee due to an electronics failure and need a new home forI my SPE 43, would this just be way too much motor for this plane? Thanks
Ok guys this is a real question, I posted it 2 pages ago and nothing....I have found out the the AUW (flying weight is 11 LBS), so would a 43cc just be stupid in this plane? Thanks
I haven't flown mine yet but I'm guessing yes too much. Is it a aircraft engine or a conversion, if it's a conversion it may be ok they tend to have less power. Don't get me wrong I tend to over power everything but I have learned you can go too far and lose aircraft speed resolution at lower throttle settings if that makes any sense the way I said it.
