RE: Something crazy THE REBUILD
Also been thinking about some guards for the rear wheels as the air intake is right by the left one.
You need to do your tractor body, a couple of big guards would look perfect and do the job at the same time

RE: Something crazy THE REBUILD
With your sand problem why not grab some airfilter foam from your local car parts place. You can use the leg from a pair of panty-hose to hold it to the outside of the original air filter. maybe even modify a small car air filter for the job. you can pick them up cheap enough

I take my hat off to you mate! You have shown a lot of us that you dont need all the "proper" parts to build these things. Your work is great to see and a real inspiration. p.s. Gotta love the first pic lol

RE: Something crazy THE REBUILD
ORIGINAL: Dirty_Vinylpusher Cheers fellas. However..... This build will change radically over the next couple of days due to new ideas.....again.... [:D] Mudgy, that's a good idea. Always looking for different avenues of sourcing items that can be used for my builds.
Thats what makes building like this so much fun, you have an idea, go for it.... You dont have huge dollars invested in it to destroy so ideas are very doable!

RE: Quarter Scale Dragster
ORIGINAL: Dirty_Vinylpusher Yeah man bring on the oldschool stuff! The good ole days when men wore hats and sported their handlebars with pride. There is a certain magic and mystique surrounding the true pioneers of any kind of motoring. They put their necks on the line to go faster and harder than anyone had done before, knowing full and well that their machine could explode in a ball of fire at any moment. These days it's all too computerised to be anywhere near as dangerous as it was back then and it's kinda lost it's charm. Your dragster is one of the coolest models/RC's I've ever seen and I can't wait to see it in action when it's ready. Them old front motor dragsters would have been pretty scary to drive I reckon with the motor screaming away in front of you. And sitting behind the rear wheels like that as well. And no, not everyone hates cats.....[;)]
Yeah, a lot of the front engined dragsters had the drivers bum right over the diff, tyres inches from your head and a potential family ending explosion between your legs but they did run after run and loved it every time..... And i LOVE cats, but i find it difficult to eat a whole one[:D] [:D][:D][:D]

RE: Quarter Scale Dragster
I`m just waiting for your first run vid mate, i know the old style rails and yours looks like a lot of them. Some of the early ones would be considered absolute crap these days but were top shelf technology for their day. Think of it like this, you are educating todays generation on a little motoring history at the same time as making a beautiful model. Now wheres that burnout? [:D][:D]

RE: Homemade diff?
ORIGINAL: QSPSB2 Hmm... Well DVP i would assume the difference in gear relationship would come down to the difference in brands.. You know,, Patent / Trademark Now tell me something... Was the gears placed the same in the casing.. Another thing you must take into consideration is the placement of your gear set-up... Your driving the ring gear from the back side of it. rather from the front as it would be in a diff... Look at it from the front.. Your ring is on the left side... and pinion is in front of it.. rather than the back of it... Which i fully understand why... Perhaps you could just use a standard straight cut gear set-up... ''NO BRAINIER ''
As far as i`m concerned mate your talking the KISS principle, Keep It Simple Stupid. Straight cut gears are simpler and easier to find, i reckon DVP plays the game the way i do, scrounge, beg and cheap. If you can get it cheap go for it. Straight cut gears in grinders arent that common but when you can find them they are the grinders that last longest

RE: Homemade diff?
Why dont you go round to a couple of the big tool shops (ones that repair tools) and talk to some of the blokes, explain what your trying to do and see if they can give/sell you two sets of gears from the same model grinder. At least the gears would match that way

Mate, all i can say is GO FOR IT!!!!!!! Theres lots out there that say its too hard or you need fancy expensive equipment, but theres plenty of guys out there that have built great gear with nothing more than hand tools. Go for it and dont forget the pics[:D]
