RE: Black Magic v2 builder's thread! *Updated*
Bryan\Mike Bryan I did send you u a copy of the drawings a while ago(by email). I have now changed heaps of the pieces but kept the exact same lines as the plans. I have been updating all the time and used more of mikes ideas lately from the VF3, not exactly the same just more for reinforcement and lightening holes. I will send you a new copy soon with some of the new pieces I have made. I have the Shinden fuse in basic format but, I needed the cowl etc to see if I was close or way out in my drawings, there was no use in finishing it all and finding nothing fits. I would love to work with Mike on it. I believe he is now quite a CAD gun as well. Mike can I send you a copy of the Quest wing files , I have them all done, even the profiles of the roots tips of the airfoils in compuoil and autocad, maybe you could suggest where, I might need to put the spars etc. I was about to well do the same sort of things that you did to the BM v2.2 wings and see how I went Thanks Troy[:D][:D]

RE: Black Magic v2 builder's thread! *Updated*
Bryan My Quest has been Glassed and broken already. I have already started working on my third one, this one I have used some of Mikes ideas, I hope he doesnt mind and have had alot of pieces reinforced with composites. The cheeks, canopy bellypan and the top piece of the nose are all carbon fiber, I made all my own molds for all these. Most of the key fromers are laminated then routed by a friend. I have had some pieces laser cut, I found a company locally who can just take my drawings and cut them easily. I have found a great supply of balsa locally. I always use Bolly stuff as the factory is local to me, I just stop in there. The only thing I need to get some advice on is where I need to ask some advice for is where to strengthen the wing, thats how I broke the last one, OOPS!!! Im sure if I ask really nicely Mike or Bryan might give ne some ideas. Anway this is Mikes recording breaking thread Troy

Dean When do we see more pictures of the vf3 components etc. I see you have them sitting on the bench next to the other frames you did. Im curious in the one of the support bracket whats the extra slot for ? Are the composite components different ? Did you do all the design work for it ? Thanks Troy

Mike When you make all your carbonfiber laminated pieces, do you layup the material yourself ? If so before you layup the balsa or ply with the carbon fiber and epoxy do you seal the surface with something first to stop the wood absorbing the epoxy. Im sure I have asked this one before you have the pieces routed rather than laser cut for these Thanks Troy

Hi Everone When you are doing the firewall for the BM do you cut out the ply circle before you laminate the 1\8 balsa onto the firewall or is it another plywood circle added to the firewall as well ?? Thanks Troy

RE: Need help with Mold design
Hi Mike Maybe even a one piece mold not that many tight curves etc, you might just have to put some cotton floc or qcells in the resin aroounf the tighter lines and be very careful with the waxing and pva application Troy

Hi Mike I was just curious when are we going to see your fiberglassing how to A few people seem to be curious on exactly how you do it. Is micro balloons just the same as qcells ? Do you use a epoxy based resin and just mix the micro balloons in to give a thicker more filling resin ? Thanks Troy

RE: A day at Dixie - Shinden pics
Hi Greg I have the plans almost complete at the moment, the wings stab rudder etc are done. most of the fuse is done. The important fact here is that Bvmwill sell the full composite one, where mine will be a wood version like the ones at the top of this post. Im just waiting to get a set of canopy and cowl from Bryan to make my own molds off. So in the short yes Thanks Troy

Hi Uk Flyer If its ok to ask, where did you get then produced or did you do them yourself. I have two other projects I am working on in cad format already and would loved some carbon fiber pieces made for them. Do you know if they can do honeycomb sandwhiched between fiberglass as well ? I havent found the best way to cut this stuff yet and its very strong and 1\10 the cost of carbon fiber. I know this is a little off subject Thanks Troy

Cutting wing tube holes
Hi When is the best time to cut the wing tube holes. Before cutting out the wings while the foam is still in the block or after cotting the wings. I have made a tube which excepts different size forsener bits which cut foam really well, the tube is mounted in two bearings and slides through really easily and there is almost no flex in the alloy tube. I use my dremel to power the shaft at different speeds depending ot the depth of the cut. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks Troy
