RE: HiTech Aurora 9 info/opinions
I've been salivating over the release of the Aurora radio as well and if the features do come as advertised with their release of the product, then it would have a real value. Only problem I see is that it's release to the piblic has slipped several times and it makes one wonder if the technical issues which are there will clear up. They don't seem to share much about their developement of this radio.

RE: ultra sport 60 twin???
When designing up your engine nacels make sure that you have 3 degree's of offset to the right for the right nacel and 3 degree's of left for the left nacel. The offset will help counteract the torque and prop "P" factor in the event of an engine that dies. The offset will make it easier to fly.

RE: ultra sport 60 twin???
Agreed. As a minimum I'd go with two 40's. One has to plan that in the event of one engine were to fail, the other engine still needs to be able to fly the airplane. Changing a single 60 powered airplane to a twin will actually add another 8 ounces of engine weight alone. then add the weight of the engine nacels, fuel tank and other associated hardware and one begins to see that its not as simple as one would think. Plan on the wing loading to increase a bit.

RE: Jig to keep ribs square
Thin CA glue and a plastic square has always worked for me. After all the rib's are set I follow up with a medium thickness CA to make sure the strength is there. I'll use Titebond wood glue and lots of pins, weights and tape to glue the sheeting on. When joining the panels it's always 30 minute epoxy on all surfaces to be glues together. Been building this way for many years and it has worked without failure.

RE: I am now a nervous flyer?????
ORIGINAL: Minnreefer That is what I figured, I got a few flights on my stik the other day and it is starting to feel better, just more pratice I guess.
Great advice from those who have submitted. As a former instructor and chief pilot I would add that it is common for students and pilots to get complacient with the basics and not practice them on a regular basis. I would go and pull the old trainer out and practice the basics like horizontal circles, horizontal figure eights, the rectangle landing pattern and simulated engine failures during take off and landings. Practice Go and test out your airplane and see what what it does when it you stalls at both low power and high power settings. Take the airplane up high and practice the basics and get comfortable with them. Eventually you confidence will rebuild and you comfort will come back. Good luck and keep on flying.

I've used one of these with good success: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&W=000380664&I=L5B86402&P=K I just carved out a section of the fuselage and added a 1.5" square piece of 1/16" plywood with a chunk of basswood glued on the back side to allow some bite for the mounting screw. It help up nicely with my Bridi XLT that screemed along around 120 mph.

RE: PLYWOOD SUBSTITUTION
have you gone to your local home depot type store and looked for lauan plywood door skin material? I've used it in the past to build some of my larger gas powered airplanes an it worked pretty good. Just don't use it for high stress services like dihedral braces or landing gear plates. There isn't the same amount of shear strength as in real plywood.

RE: Motor problems OS FS 120 on 1/4 cub
I would have thought that you hd elliminated a few issues by taking the Quick-Fill and the Perry pump out of the fuel system. I guess it wouln't be too hard to modify the airplane so that you could install the engine sideways. Probably a new cowl will be needed which one could be bought. Glad that you were able to get the engine running...

RE: Motor problems OS FS 120 on 1/4 cub
I'm with da_Rock on this one. I've had bad experiences with the quick fill valves myself and them leaking. Bypass the fill valve and also what looks like an old Perry Pump. Both of those can cause tuning problems with the engine. Anther question for you... Have you tried taking the engine off the airplane and running off a bench right ide up? does the problem go away? Just my 2 cents worth...

RE: Motor problems OS FS 120 on 1/4 cub
I would check to make sure the tank is at proper elevation with the carb. Indeed it does sound that the carb settings are out of whack and need to be reset to factory defaults and then tuned again: Needle Settings: High Speed: 2.5 - 3 turns out from fully closed Low Speed: Edge of larger sleeve centered, looking down the neck of the carb Have fun!!

RE: So what is the verdict for the tower hobbies 75?
I've have a Tower .46 and .61 and both were great engine and had strong power. Proper break in, use 2.5 additional ounces of castor per gallon of fuel and it'll run forever. Simple to tune in and make it purr. Settings seemed to hold up quiet well. I never had to tinker with these engine to keep them going. I always use Marvel Mystery Air Tool oil as an after run oil and it works great.

RE: Wing mounting challenges
Drill out the holes to fit an larger size dowel that will completely fill the miss drilled holes. One can go to either Lowes or Home Depot and find hardwood dowel relatively cheap. Once the holes are filled then redrill the holes to match the ones that were drilled in the wing.

How wide is the hinge gap? Quick test is to use some scotch tape and seal the hinge gap and go for a test flight. Do check your linkage and make sure that there is no slop.

RE: WHYYY???!!!!!!
Couple of things I've noticed here. Engine undersized. Engine has a loose head or blown gasket (reason for the fuel leak coming from the head) which is producing less power. Oversized prop which won't let the engine spin at the proper RPM where the engine produces the greatest amount of HP. CG probably was never checked as the airplanes initial flight indication seem to demonstrate a tail heavy stall. Chalk this one up as a learning experience to ALWAYS take you time and not rush to get an airplane up into the air. Hopefully you've learned something from this....

RE: gms .32 engine problems
I'm assuming you are using a two line fuel system with the clunk line going to the carb and the vent line going to the pressure bleed from the muffler? You've checked the the fuel system and using appropriate sized fuel line. Does the enging have decent compression when you hand turn the prop? Another issue I've seen with the GMS engines is the O-ring seals they used for the carbs is the cheap chinese crap rubber which after some time dries out and crack. When that happens you have air leaks all around the base of the carb. Test with some oil and see if it draws/sucks it in around the base of the carb.

RE: OS 55AX break-in issues
Have you tried to open the throttle full open with the glow driver still connected? This would help keep it running if it were to rich. My guess is that your running a little lean and the engine will die even with the glow driver connected. If it does die then open the needle at least another half to full turn. The recommendation settings are a ball park type setting assuming that your fuel supply is good.

RE: Suer Tigre Dies in the air!!!
ORIGINAL: beau0090_99 Have you verified that the clunk line is the one running to the needle, and not the fill line or muffler pressure line? I use 3-line systems and I have accidentally switched the fill and the clunk and this happened to me. Good luck, Curtis
I was going to say the same thing. Check your fuel tank installation and fuel lines. The lean run (engine gets hot) is a clear indication that either the clunk is stuck, wrong fuel line is hooked up or if using the three line fuel tank installation the third line used for fueling needs to be plugged or it will run lean in the air. Report back with your findings...
