RE: Hobbico Electristar Select EP Trainer RTF
lipo's are a huge improvement over the ni-mh, i'm sure your really going to enjoy the electristar now. for a charger, one of mine is a great planes polycharge 4, allows me to charge up to 4 4-cell packs at the same time at 3 amp's each. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXKAU0&P=ML have it hooked up to a deep cycle marine battery that i picked up at sams club for around $70, have several chargers pluged into it charging all day long at air shows with no problems.
ORIGINAL: Chief Redelk Look for a real plane to begin with then you will not be putting money on a bird that goes into the barn before it's time..
funny that you should mention going into the barn. i ended up retiering my swift after this summer since my ni-mh batters were getting pretty weak, so i gave it a well deserved send-off.....directly into the side of an old barn. it was a good little plane, but everying i fly now is on my dx7.

i've been using zippy-h 2200mah 3 cell lipo's for my reactor bipe, wanted to order a few more the other day, but i see hobbycity no longer sells the zippy-h, saw the flightmax lipo's and been thinking about getting a couple of them to try. i see you are happy with yours so i think i'll might try a couple.

RE: Official Aerobird Swift Thread
ORIGINAL: rowdyjoe I must have the bug really bad because I've already started shopping for my next bird. I haven't flown the Swift yet but, I'm already planning my next purchase. Is that normal for this hobby or have I gone nuts.?
yes, that is perfectly normal....i'm already thinking about my next project, will not be getting it until winter, but will start to purchase the electronics for it shortly to spread out the cost of it. http://www.precisionaerobatics.com/product_details.php?pid=456 along with a couple scratch build airplanes for winter projects. have a burshed speed 700 motor that someone gave me that i have to find a good home for. one thing that i always do before purchasing an airplane is read up on it from either here of from rcgroups and take notes as to what set-up people use, how they like it and if the recemended equipment will work good. this helped me alot when i purchased my reactor bipe http://www.electrifly.com/index-gpma1580.html found out from the forums that the servor's recemended, people were having trouble with them stripping out and found that many has liked the hs65hb's instead. that itself possibly saved my airplane.

RE: Hobbico Electristar Select EP Trainer RTF
the main advantage of adding that 5th cell is for extended flight time at 1/2 power. also gives a bit more power to over come the drag from flying floats.

RE: Official Aerobird Swift Thread
yes, with a knife. it sounds like you want to try to get the receiver board out, best way of doing that is to un-hook the tail control surfaces, then under the fuse is a couple screws that hold everything in place, take out those screws and you should be able to slide it forward enough to see where this chip goes in. this chip, is it a jumper? hope this helps, and just a thought, but if i were you i would not try flying this again untill you've had some expereance with something a bit slower, like a hobbyzone supercub. the swift is a hand-full, but after some experience under your belt, you should be able to fly her.
ORIGINAL: puffant Hi I just bought an aerobird swift and I am a total begginer, guess what? I crashed it in about 5 secs, main wing is broken and a microchip fell off the receiver. This sounds like a silly question but does anyone know how to open the fuselage?
back to the apprentice, spare lipo's are not to expensive if you know where to get them. i get all mine from hobbycity.com. the rhino's and zipph-h's are great. http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=6354 if it wasn't for the fact thay you want a spektrum radio, i would have also mentioned the electrostick http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXUTZ8&P=ML

RE: E flite Apprentice vs Hangar 9 Alpha...
the mustang has flaps, they come with 3 preset positions that you adjust manualy while learning to fly, but a couple servor's from your crashed plane can be added to make them functional flaps. also i don't think this can be fitted with retracs, the wheels are swepted forward on this mustang because it is for learning to fly on and it helps to prevent it from nosing over in the grass.

RE: Official Aerobird Swift Thread
when i did mine, i sat there for at least an hour trying different ways to connect that pushrod to the servo before i realized that, why is it always the most simplest way of doing things is always the one we think of last. good luck with the swift, it is a bit under powered for take-off, but as long as you give it a nice solid straight launch and let it build up speed before pulling up then it doese just fine.

RE: Official Aerobird Swift Thread
i had to swap mine out ounce, what i did was i disconected the tair wires so they will move freely, then i took a couple pairs of pliers to pry loost the connector on the tail wire so i can get plenty of movement from it so i was able to slide the tail wire all the way forward to connect it to the servor before i even put it in the swift, then when it is in the swift, i was able to just use some epoxy to glue the tail wires back together, been flying it like that ever since. hope this helps.

the wing tube is straight. a gust of wind took mine off of the starting bench and bent my tube, i replaced with a wooden dowel that was close to same size as the tube and wraped some masing tape around dowel to give a nice tight fit.

RE: Hobbico Electristar Select EP Trainer RTF
it all depends on how comfortable you are with flying in the wind. i've flown mine several times in 20+ mph winds, just want to be sure that if you fly in that strong of winds that you have a nice wide open area where you can land directly into the wind, not fun to try to cross wind land with winds that strong. and you want to fly up-wind from you, that way if for some reason the motor quites, you will be able to land not to far from you. hope this helps.

RE: Hobbico Electristar Select EP Trainer RTF
threads been quiet lately. everyone still happy with their electristar. i was in at my lhs last weak and seen that they have a new electristar sitting on their shelf. one of their customers picked up 2 of them back when tower had them on sale, he is flying one and he just traded the other one in towards another airplane. so if anyone is looking for a new electristar, here is where you can get it. www.hobbyforce.com i think they have a price of around $130 - $150 on it, but not for sure.

RE: Electrifly Silver Series ESC
just wanted to put my 2 cents in about the silver series esc's. i have 3 45amp's, 2 35amp, a 25amp and a 12 amp silver series esc and i have had no problems with them. the main thing i like about them is that when you plug in your battery, the esc doese not automatacly arm the motor like with most other's. to arm the motor, you have to move throttel stick all the way up, wait for a beep, then move it all the way down and wait for 3 beeps to signafy the motor is armed. the one downside to the esc, as mentioned earler, is that you have to have a fully charged pack since the lvc is set as a % instead of a set volt, but i just check lipo volts on a volt meter before using them to varify it is a fully charged pack.
