RE: FP or LA
The quality of the LA series is down from the FP IMO. The TT.42 is another very good option.

RE: My Astro Hog (and re-introduction)
Welcome back! I think your hog looks great. I have always liked that color scheme. I started with the small 1/2a stuff and have progressed all the way up to gassers. I still enjoy flying ALL sizes. Happy Landings, turbo

RE: OS .60 FP Bushed engine suddenly dies
Does the rpm change at idle when you remove the plug? If it does you may need to try a different plug. Do the pinch test at idle. Does it speed up when pinched, or sag instantly. Does it occur regardless of fuel level in the tank?

RE: K&B Sportster Club
I have used 12 x 8 & 12 x 10 on my Sportster. As Earl says, they don't slow down on landings. I like using them when flying in high winds.

RE: Whats up with kits?
When learning the hobby, my Dad taught me to trace parts from anything I built from a kit. He also taught me to build from plans. I am so glad to have the ability to do this for myself today. It seems like a perfect situation for todays builder, and another reason to thank my Dad for sharing some more of his wisdom with me....

RE: Its Official... I Ordered a Kit
Congrats Bill! I hope you enjoy the build process. I like it as much as the flying. BTW the Kadet Mk.II is one of the better flyers out there. It is a harder build than some.( only in lots of sanding / time). You will be rewarded by a great flyer that you can enjoy for a long time.....

RE: webra 32 carb help
Loosen the bolt that holds the carb to allow it to turn freely by hand. Rotate the high speed needle side toward the prop. Make sure you have the carb at your idle positon. Adjust so that the the slide assy will make contact with the cylinder and physically can't come out. Just mind the needle while setting and you'll be fine( as it is closer to the prop now). I would be happy to take a photo, but we are just starting a demo project at work and it might be awhile before I see my shop in the lite of day......

RE: webra 32 carb help
Jeff, I don't know of a current parts source. The low speed adjustment on the Dynamix is exactly the opposite of a TN ( two needle type). It is out to lean / in to richen on the Dynamix. I have used Dynamix carbs for 20+ years on every size Webra engine I have and even on some other makes of engines and thought they performed fantastic every time! Some people say they need a pump to operate well, but I have never needed to use a pump. I bet the best parts source is a used engine that has the carb.

RE: webra 32 carb help
The Perry carbs work fine. A tip for the Webra Dynamix is to angle the carb body so the sliding bar can't come out unless you loosen the carb. I have done that for 20 + years and never lost one. I know it doesn't help you this time, but might in the future. The Webra Dynamix is my favorite carb!

I picked up several of the Hots sizes, Ulrey's laser, Shepherd's Laser 200, and several sized Jungmeisters. Several of them were $30 at full price. This is the 3rd time I have taken advantage of the 50% sale. I have noticed some plans not being available, so I figure get'um while you can.

RE: LETS SAVE SIG BEFORE THEY GET SWALLOWED BY THE BIG TWO!!!
I cut my teeth on Sig kits. I have built the: Hummer, Kougar, Smith Miniplane, Kavalier, Kobra, Seniorita, and Skybolt. I have flown all of those as well as Kadets and Astro Hogs, Hog Bipe, Four Star 60, and Fun Fly Ultimate. My favorite is the Skybolt. but I have never flown a bad flying Sig kit.

One thing about the new carb is that if the carb barrel gets rotated 180 degree's, it wont pull fuel. Check that first, then look for air leaks....

RE: Replacement Muffler for Super Tigre 90
I use a header with a mousse can type muffler. I use a tuned pipe mount to support the can. It will fix the muffler issue and give you a nice power boost.

RE: What prop for a HB 40 PDP with tuned pipe?
The HB 40 shares muffler dimensions with several engines. It does use a #5 bolt that requires you to enlarge it to a #6 size to take advantage of all that will fit. It uses the same stock muffler as the .61, so it allows it to breath very well. As said a 10 x 6 at 15,000 is still a very powerful 40. There are only a few that will beat it on that prop, and those that do are not cheap! It share the Muffler dimension's with: HB 40 & 61 Como 51 ST 45 thru 60 ( V-60) K&B 61 & 65 Webra Blackhead & Silverline .61 Those are one's that I have and I know they interchange with the enlargement to a #6.

RE: What prop for a HB 40 PDP with tuned pipe?
Brian Lee of R/C Report did a .40's sized engine (with stock mufflers) Shoot Out in the mid to late 1980's. This was when it was in the newspaper format. The HB .40 PDP 'Blitz' was used. In that test, only the Rossi .40 bettered the HB. It hit 15,000 with a 10 x 6 in that test. Granted many changes have come in the 25 years since the test, but the 15,000 on a 10 x 6 is still among the best.

RE: What fuel for ST V 60?
I have both types of then and have run them same day on the bench. I do use a different muffler as the V-60 has to use a strap-on type muffler. Mine both run better for me with 10% or less. I really prefer 5% unless I have a gallon of 10% open that I want to use up. I am a huge fan of the small case ST 60! I do have a really old V-60 that has a baffle linked to the carb ( the carb opens backwards to todays modern versions) that I will play with someday. It may be one of the old one's that can use the higher nitro......

RE: What fuel for ST V 60?
European engines are designed to use FAI fuel. I have used as much as 10% nitro with no problem in the ST V-60. I have used 20% oil both straight castor and castor / synthetic blend with good results. It is a very light weight engine with power on par with a K&B .61 in my experience. The ST V-60 is still highly revered in CL Stunt circles and many parts are available. You could probably find a lot of info from those stunt guys if you need more.

RE: Fox 40 is impressing me.......
Thanks earlwb, I found one in Model Aviation 1990 to use as a starting point. Fox didn't advertise every month and they didn't run the Duke's Mixture every time. The good thing about that is that with your AMA membership, you have access to the Digital Archives and can go through all the Model Aviations from 1976 to about 2000 online. I want to make a file with as many as I can find. They had some great info.....

RE: Fox 40 is impressing me.......
Hey Earlwb, What magazine and year was the Duke's Mixture in? I have most of the magazines stored in an old shop ( several hundred miles away) of my parents. If you could get me that info, I could try and scan them into a Adobe document for all to have access. I remember an article where Duke addressed setting the low speed in particular. He wanted you to set the idle speed first, then adjust the idle needle for the maximum rpm at that setting. This was a leanersetting than any of my other brands, but I thought to try his directions. It made the transition clean and quick. I never had any issues with midrange, only the transition was very sloppy and undependable. His advice fixed that in my applications. Duke gave some ideas for filling needles for some fine tuning. This was mentioned earlier in the thread. I never tried that, but others may chime in. Here is a site that has great Fox info: http://web.archive.org/web/20060901224027/http://www.flitelinesolutions.com/index.html

RE: Fox 40 is impressing me.......
Not only was it a bushed version, but it was a $7 swap meet find that looked cooked. That is what was still left. The Ball Bearing .40's that jaka is talking about ( and they are some good one's), weigh more than a Fox 50. I tried to compare it to the OS FP as it another time appropriate engine. I think they were much better than the LA series. The lightweight is what makes the bushed 40 useful at least to me. They weigh about the same as BB .25's and pull those smaller airframes very nicely!
