RE: NEW 30% BME EDGE II
I'm really sorry to hear of your loss. I had a Kit built Ultimate go in due to a bad power switch on the second flight. That was over 2 years ago & it still hurts. I would recommend writing a letter to Futaba & explain to them what happened. They may help you out with a new receiver or some servo's. When my ultimate went in they replaced all of the servo's, receiver, & gave me a new kit. I was extremely suprised and they secured my customer loyalties for many years to come. :) Like Joe, I had recently purchased a 9C when I got my Edge, so I put in PCM and have no intentions of moving over to Spectrum. Glad to see you have another one on the way. [8D] Tony

RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 build
ORIGINAL: JohnMcGowan Update: I did the maiden ( for me anyway) on the ultimate. I had the field to myself all day. I was really surprised that no one ever showed up , I guess due to the heat- It was 98° at noon. I went for it though. This was my first ever time to take-off and land a bipe of any kind. It has a YS 120 on it and Ive been repairing the covering on it because it was in such bad shape. Anywho, I taxied out and did a couple of slow speed run-ups on the runway to get a feel for it, and about the 3rd time I said to myself, I said "self, lets do this" and off I went. 3 clicks of up trim on the elevator was all it needed for hands off flight. It is pretty quick too I might ad witha 16x8 prop. I am going to experiment with a couple different size props,a 15x10 as well as a 17x10 just to see what they fly like. I will post pics when I get them. later, John
Excellent news!!! I'm glad everything went well & look forward to the pic's.

RE: What plane will allow me to fly 3d in the wind?
to be honest, they all fly in the wind just fine. Obviously the lighter ones get tossed around more, but they still fly fine. I took my 40 size mojo (very light) & 6mm depron foamy (feather light) out in 35+ winds once. It was a fun fly for a bunch of boy scouts, so we pretty much had to fly & they both did great. I'd hover one at one end of the runway & it would be at the other end in a second. it was a blast. I pretty much had to land them in the weeds though to keep em from blowing away. hehe.

RE: Fromeco LiIon Batteries
ORIGINAL: jvino Does everyone remove the batteries when charging? I noticed that the directions said to remove when charging but I never see batteries laying around at the field, just planes with chargers attached. What is the risk involved with leaving them in if any?? Secondly, what type of charge is everyone using?? I have the Triton 2 charger, will this work well?? Thanks so much for your help, Jeremiah
I personally think it's a liability thing, because there is always a chance that they could burn. I have fromeco's in two planes & I leave them in to charge & have been doing it for about a year. The triton should do just fine for the charger, I use an AccuCycle Elite on mine.

RE: Pull pull cross or not to cross?
It really doesn't matter weather you cross them or not as long as you get the geometry right. I typically look at where my servo mount is compared to the slits for the cable & go with what fits the plane. On my BME Edge I went with an offset box design (example C in the picture) because the hard point in my rudder was too far back for the normal box option (example A). Both wires are guitar string tight throughout the entire range of the servo. diagram taken from http://www.swbmfg.com/rudex.html which is a great read on this topic.

RE: Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 build
The kit comes with metal bolts, but you pretty much have to use loc tite on them if you don't want them to vibrate out. When I was running the engine in on mine (on the ground) both vibrated out & were laying on the ground after I was done. I just put some loc tite (the removable kind) on them and it held them in place. However over the long term that would get pretty messy so I'll switch to plastic on the next one. [;)]

RE: SEALING HINGE GAPS
ORIGINAL: BBW Walt Question for you tape users, How do you get tape to lay down in the hinge bevel on both sides without getting a stuck up mess. I use covering with a trim iron and I'm able to get it to lay perfectly on both surface sides all the way down to the hinge line. I tried Blenderm once and made a mess of trying to get it down correctly without getting it stuck where I didn't want it stuck, gotta be a trick here.....Walt
I've always just layed it lightly across the whole hinge & then used the back side of my x-acto knife to push it down on one side & then the other. it's pretty stretchy so it doesn't have to be perfect. However, I do like your technique Rcpilet, i think i'll try that next time. [;)]

The gear plate is a pretty easy fix and a good time to beef it up. I have had other Edges that had much flimsier gear mounts, but this one is pretty good.
Yeah, I bounced it HARD. My fault. Its was probably a bit too windy for a maiden (gusting to 20 I'd guess) and I had way too much low rate elevator throw. I just dug through my old pictures & found one that has the CG point from the plans. If you notice on the bottom of the pic, it says "balancing range". So, if you invert it as stated before & stay ahead of the wing spar you should be fine. **edit** Found a pic of my CG prior to covering. I don't know the measurement, but you can see about where it's at.

RE: Mojo 60, UCD 60, or Fusion??
ORIGINAL: scriptt I can’t wait to get this thing in the air!! So it looks like it will be set up like this: Saito 100 10oz Fuel Tank 4 Spectrum DS821 Digital Servos (88 oz/in @ 6.0v) Spectrum AR7000 Reciever No BS 6-cell 1500mah NiMH Battery (4.1oz) I have seen a few people say that there are a lot of build threads for this plane. Is that on this website? If so, does anyone have some search tips because im have real trouble finding them. Does anyone have any build tips? As far as the best glue to use for the lightest possible outcome? What size clasps I should use and all of that stuff? And how is the wire landing gear? DO you recommend replacing it or is it pretty sturdy? I was looking at the No BS website and the battery I listed above was the lightest 6-cell they have. Seems like it has a good mah rating, but I don’t know what the battery should weigh in at so I would like some opinions on that as well. As for the throttle servo, I think I may use a micro servo or something to shave the weight down as much as possible, do you think that’s an ok idea?
Well, an excellent build thread is the manual itself: [link=http://www.swanyshouse.com/mojo60/mojo60buildinstructions.pdf]mojo 60 manual[/link]. Another great thread and a place to ask any questions is [link=http://www.theprofilebrotherhood.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4578&sid=5a137c7198febca6721be9f90a24449b]Mojo for Dummies[/link]. The dummies thread is for a 40 size, but they build exactly the same. I lay the fuse & wings out with T pins on a ceiling tile and hit all the joints with thin CA. I've got about 15 or 20 good crashes on mine & it's still good as new. The wire landing gear is perfect on the 40. Once you plant it a few times & just bend the gear back you'll appreciate the fact that you don't have to go buy new fiberglass or plastic gear. [:D] I used a standard servo for my throttle but I know guys are using smaller stuff. One thing to be aware of is the vibrations of a 4 stroke can be unhealthy on a micro servo. **edit** looks like rcu doesn't like the dummies thread link (there's a long story there) [;)] if you replace the ****'s in the link with "the profile brotherhood dot com" (no spaces) it will work.

RE: which motor, YS63s or Saito 82 ?
I've got a Saito 1.25 & a YS 63 & they both run perfectly. I've got probably 150 flights (& 20 crashes [8|]) on the YS & have never had to touch anything after I broke it in. I also run a 13x4W on the YS which runs it up to around 12000 RPM which is pretty harsh treatment. I do believe you need to run 20% at a minimum on the YS so it will cost a little more on fuel, but being a power junkie I run 30% in my saito too. [:D]

RE: Beginner 3D Advise
I'd recommend two things. 1. get a foamy. I fumbled around with 3D on my glow planes & did halfway ok, but I was always a mile high because I'd crash if I didn't. Once I got a foamy in the back yard I was torque rolling on the ground in a matter of a couple weeks & the experience carried over to my glow & gas planes very well. 2. For a glow plane Mojo is best, but if a kit isn't an option I personally would go with an OMP Katana http://www.ohiomodelplanes.com/48katanaarf/ They're $129 bucks & easy to fix or replace when (not if) you crash. I personally would stay clear of the U Can Do because it's heavier & much less durable. It's a decent flying plane, but nowhere near as good at 3D or as druable as any profile.

RE: Mojo 60, UCD 60, or Fusion??
ORIGINAL: scriptt Quick questions, why do I want 2.5 degrees thrust? It seems like that may make hovering more difficult.
I couldn't begin to tell you the physics behind it but pretty much every plane has some right thrust in it to counteract the way the air comes off the prop. If you put no right thrust in it it will pull to the left & you'll have to constantly compensate with right rudder when trying to hover. Also, I agree with YNOT, the stock mojo 60 is what you need.

RE: Mojo 60, UCD 60, or Fusion??
ORIGINAL: scriptt Thank you for all of the super fast replies. [:D] Wind Junkie, We have a Pickup truck with a camper shell that we use for the field. I have 48" in between the wheel hubs and im guessing probably 58 wall to wall in the bed so it should fit. We might not be able to take a whole lot out that day but it'll definitely fit. And your right, id probably rather not mess with detachable wings, I think it would be more rigid with stationary wings anyway. I think I read somewhere that the detachable option was kind of weak or something. Something im pondering: what exactly is the "Mojo 60 MoAss Modification kit"? And what exactly is the "2 1/2 deg thrust plate"? After looking at pictures of the Fusion kit, I think I can see how the Mojo is more robust. It seems like a great plane, I just wish it came in an ARF. What do you think the build time would be (in hours) for a total newb builder like myself? Sorry for so many questions.
The MoAss is plans for a modification to the original Mojo 60 design which makes it larger with bigger control surfaces. The thrust plate is a shim to go between your motor & the motor mount which will give you exactly 2.5 degrees of right thrust (recommended). If you don't get it you'll have to use washers or something else to shim the motor out. I haven't built the 60 yet, but I built the mojo 40 in about 24 hours of actual build time (including covering). Granted I built three planes before it, so it will probably take you a little longer. There's a ton of help & some great build threads over on the profile brotherhood site.

RE: Mojo 60, UCD 60, or Fusion??
I've got a mojo 40 & am currently building a 65, so of course my recommendation is the mojo. The reason you'll love it more than any other is becuase it's tough as nails and flys great. I had a OMP Katana profile & it flew great, but after a few weeks and a few doinks it was in 4 pieces and done. However I've had my mojo for a year & had some pretty violent crashes & it's still as good as new.
