RE: Earthquake 8e ESC Smokes on turn-on
ORIGINAL: hhvg These are good ESCs. Ive had 3 and they all worked flawlessly with a stock pinion or a few teeth smaller. Ive used all 3 (aftershock, backdraft, and earthquake) with the stock batts, tenergy 2s 30c 5000, and protek 30c 5000 2s. Ive even ran on tenergy 3s 5000 30c. All work well with no probs. What gears were you running? Were your connectors/soldering good?
Youve ran an earthquake stock esc on 3's with no problems? How did it perform?

if true I would change it enough just to legally get out of trouble but close enough to irritate. Really make them mad by going to the name REDKAT, REDDCAT, or REDCATT, Hell even DEADCAT would be pretty good

RE: A few questions
Thanks I didn't know who posted that link to ask but saved it to my favorites. I too was looking at the cheaper hobby king batteries as well. I have trimmed many bodies but if you have to trip up the wheel wells it seems to weaken the body a bit so I don't mind trimming ot making holes for posts but want something that fits other than that. Ill have to grab a standpede body for the caldera. Thanks I really want to try the traxxas summit body for the earthquake but. I was hoping someone would try before me .

RE: Caldera 10E
Nice. I will have to give this a shot. I wish someone had a video like a battery comparison. But guess ill have to do it after I get the 3's in. this would also giver longer run time if say using a 3 - 5000 compared to 2 - 5000 right as it would take longer to reach low voltage cutoff? As you are starting with a higher voltage and draing more cells? Just a thought.

Anyone running 3's through theres yet? I want to see a video as I am about to buy some more batteries and if it is a big improvement I will buy 3's if not Ill just save the money and buy 2's as this thing flies with 2's. My middle son runs this truck as I run the Eartquake 8E but his is holding up great and he hasnt broken anything except for the body and the sterring servo but both from extreme crashes, Please posta video or a link to a video if anyone has one or has seen one, THANKS!!

A few questions
I am looking for a good body for both the earthquake 8E and the Caldera 10e I am not big on the stock bodies. I have used a bunch of other bodies that I have trimmed ect but I am looking at what is a direct fit for both non stock if you have tried some and can clue me in that would be great. Also somone recommended these batteries http://cgi.ebay.com/2X-7-4v-5500mAh-35C-RC-1-8-1-10-Car-Boat-AKKU-battery_W0QQitemZ320669317794QQcategoryZ171140QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp5197.m7QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D4%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D7878230459108884101 Has anyone tried them and do they perform pretty good. i am not a racer just a basher so they dont have to be the BEST out there but looking for a good value battery that I can stock up on so when we have basjh sessions I have plenty charged packs to run with.

RE: hard cased lipos?
With all the new charges spend some time to reasearch and as long as you charge them correctly there is no need for worries. Most chargers you tell them how many cells = voltage most auto cut off and have a set charge rate which is adjustable if you want but to be safe just stick with factory settings if you want to charge fast do your research and buy a lipo bag. No need to worry everyday the cahrgers get safer. Heres a good artilcle. education is the key take the time to learn what you are doing and you will love the power and the savings of not having to buy Nitro every week with the price of fuel these days... http://www.rchelicopterfun.com/rc-lipo-batteries.html Plus no tuning it is a plug and play thing... Basics Cells = voltage each cell is 3.7 volts the more cells the more voltage C rating is discharge rating and also determines how many amps can be used to charge the battery. 3500C for example can be charged at 3.5 amps max. I stick to 3 amps myself but some push it to charge faster I am about being safe. How much puch the battery has . Lets say how fast 0 to top speed is achieved MAH - How long the battery will run for the higher the MAH the longer you can run your vehicle I hope this helps I was real hesistant at first as well

RE: 8E upgrades
Yeah man, I am very rough on stuff though. I am very pleased with the truck but I will break anything you put infront of me, I have multiple savages for this reason they are the toughest trucks i have ever owned but they are all nitro and to tune them takes time which I dont have these days so I wanted to try electric so far I am very happy. The reason I have multiple savages when I broke one I would grab another but with this truck I seem to make it through a few batteries before I bust up something. My son has the Caldera and for a 1/10th scale I am very impressed with it as he is just as tough on it as I am but he has yet to break a part other than the stock steering servo. The shocks are very stiff I agree I wouldnt mind something a little looser but a double shock setup would be the best in my opinion as you can leave it loose but between the 8 shocks they take the wieght very good. I have only bent one savage shock and that was during a fit of about 30 cartwheels... after a muffed jump at full throttle. I am ok with breaking parts as fixing them is half the fun and I will keep URCHOBBY in business as long as they continue to have the parts I need. I really enjoy the brushless trucks!!

8E upgrades
I want to replace the Big Bore shocks but do not want to use the stock ones. Anyone using something diffrent that they would reccomend. I tried a few others and none seem to fit just right. IThey do not have to be steel plastic is fine but want something a bit more stiff / durable and I have bent three of the four shocks and just not to happy with the stock ones.

Earthquake 8E
I need to buy the piece that the bulk head screws into the screws sheared off into the piece that holds it/ Does anyone know what part this is so I can order it? Also does anyone have a part diagram for this truck and a BOM (Build of Material) so I can refrence parts when needing to replace them? I beat the hell out of the truck today and if that is the ony casualty I will have to say the truck seems to be holding together pretty good. I have only broken these screws and a few axles but I am SUPER tough on my trucks..[:D]

RE: did I make a bad purchase or am I just unlucky or am I just a bad driver???
ORIGINAL: nitrosportsandrunner im glad you guys like the vid i posted. i have owned several nice/fast brushless trucks. i had a couple of rustler vxl's, a ofna with a vxl system and other. some days i could bash them just like in that earthquake vid and nothing would break after 2 full lipo packs(an hour of runtime!) other days something would break 5 minutes into my fun[:@] its just the nature of bashing. no matter what the truck, some days you have a blast and other days you break parts. one time i launched my rusty of a skateboard park ramp....landed 40 feet away. bent both rear shock shafts, the Rx mounts snapped, the Rx flew out of the truck, breaking the cyrstal and the body cracked really bad. and one of the wheel rims cracked. about $40 in parts needed to get it running again! but to me, thats what bashing is, running hard - breaking stuff - making the truck as tough as you can and putting it through more abuse[>:]
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^AGREED^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

RE: did I make a bad purchase or am I just unlucky or am I just a bad driver???
ORIGINAL: sherwoodGS did I make a bad purchase or am I just unlucky or am I just a bad driver??? so, my new Earthquake 8e arrived on Monday (5 days ago....) and on my first run, i broke the smaller gear in the front diff (see pic, right in half!). warranty item from redcat but it was going to take 5-7 days for delivery so i paid an extra $26 and got it in 2 days. i was able to fix that. today, i took the truck out into a parking lot and drove it around. very fast, very responsive. but maybe not too durable...??? the first time the truck rolled, the body broke and the front wheel sheered off at the hub. WTF????  now don't get me wrong, i understand this is a hobby and i actually enjoy ripping them apart and fixing them and putting them back together again. problem is that everytime something breaks i need to get the parts online and it takes a week for them to come in unless i pay through the nose for shipping. i have a very nice LHS near my house and they've never even heard of redcat, nevermind carry parts. so i guess i am going to order the new wheel parts and wait a week. my question is what parts should i buy and have on hand that typically break? for instance now i know that i will buy multiple wheel parts because that seemed to break pretty easily. anything else you guys can think of so i have common problem parts on-hand? i assume that is the way to go. thanks and enjoy the carnage photos!
I broke mine just like you did but was hauling butt and cut a turn and the inside of the wheel hit a root and ripped the wheel off just like yours looked, It broke at the pin and the pin stayed in the rim, But for 3.99 I got two more and got it back up and running in about 5 minutes. I only broke the wheeel axel though.

RE: HPI to Redcat tire issue
Good choice of tires my buddy has them on his flux they dont ballon and he is able to control the truck at high speeds. Maybe worth the 20 minute conversion. Most good tires are 17mm. Sell your stock 8e tires and just get a good monster truck set for your 8e for off roading / bashing maybe stock flux tires as you can get them on ebay cheap. Just a thought

My brother brought over his Redcat cesna 182 and after a few failed attempts at flying (well he did have about a 5 5min flight if that counts) he needs parts. Man this plane crashes nice but of course it was all pilot errors. To make a long story short we even checked with the true manufacturer and it looks as if Redcat gets all the parts first and for us to order from Arizona is a week away. But you guys are on the East coast and if you have parts and can link me to them I will send it to him so he can order from you guys as well. I personaly am not impatient but he wants to get back intot he sky asap.

RE: redcat battery support?
Not sure for the 1/5th scale stuff havent done much research but when I talked to the Redcat rep he told me to go with the biggest C count and Mah just make sure to get the proper cell count / Voltage every cell is 3.7 volts Hope this helps clear up any questions you may have C = How much punch / discharge rate (basicly 0-60) Top speed will be the same just how fast it will get to top speed Mah = Capacity (how long battery will last) Larger the number more capacity Cells = Voltage (1 cell = 3.7 volts, 2 cell = 7.4 volts.......)
