RE: 28th Roadrunner Pattern Classic
Nice job John, Richard, and club. With the possible exception of poor Bill, the whole Colorado contingent enjoyed the contest and your hospitality! Dan

RE: MODE II to MODE III
Nope, that's a small drawback. There is another way, but it's messy, has drawbacks, and you need 4 free Pmixs. You can program these mixes in such a way as to effectively swap the Ail and Rud controls. Dan

RE: MODE II to MODE III
This isn't answering your question, but.... I think you are referring to mode 2 to (what I call) mode 4 = rudder + elev on right stick. I talked to Horizon a couple years back about doing this via software on my 12x. Answer was no. I ended up sending it to an independent repair center (Radio South in US) for re-wiring. They swapped the rudder and aileron stick and trim pot wires. Problem solved! dan

RE: IMAC RC Simulators
I use Aerofly Professional Deluxe. There is a scenery: Farmland-grid available on the internet that draws a grid of lines in the sky and provides reference for depth, height, and parallelism. The IMAC planes available with the package and on the internet fly pretty well and realistic, but perhaps with a nose-heavy feel. Dan

RE: F3A Results - SPOILER
Are there Aresti versions of those unknowns? I read through the text (with my jaw dropping), but I can picture sequences better looking at Aresti. Thanks

Like the Master's sequence! Thanks guys. The similarities to P13 should prompt a few brain farts and associated zeros for me! :)

RE: Nuance
Got mine in the air this last weekend! I went with my trusty Pletty Evo30-10 and did end up installing wing adjusters. The wheels exceeded my expectations of 1 good landing - they lasted 5. Spent the first few flights adjusting ail trim out of it (not much), setting differential and playing a little with CG. 4630gm!!!!!!!!! My buddies flew it more than I did because I was trying to focus on an upcoming contest in a different discipline. Joe took off and headed straight into the Adv pattern and proceeded to fly darn near as well as he does with his fully trimmed Neptuno. Mike concluded it was the best he's flown yet! I broke down and flew through the P13 sequence as the wind picked up. It wasn't my best effort, but I was just amazed at how close to trimmed this thing is right off the workbench. It snaps, spins, and tracks just great - all without much setup adjusting! I've never experienced a "no mix" plane, but this might be it. I'm going to swap the gear out for a Graphtek with less sweep and some MPI wheels. Dan

RE: YGE 90HV F3A
I believe the difference between the YGE 80HV and the 90HV is that the 80HV was prone to burst into flames[:)]. Fortunately I got away with only scorch marks inside my plane! A buddy has been using the 90HV for some time with good results.

RE: Who has the power?
The Pletty 30-09 is a brute. I propped mine down (20-13) from the start to keep the current reasonable. Performance then seemed equivalent to the 30-10 with a 21x14. I got to fly John Gayer's Wind with the Hacker Q-80. That was the strongest pattern setup I've ever flown- ballistic if needed/wanted! Don't recall what prop he had on it. Dan

RE: Nuance
What are guys using for wheels? The skinny little plastic-hub wheels that came with my plane look like they'll stand up to 1 takeoff and maybe 1 good landing. All the other wheels I have in my stash are a bit wider and will probably rub on the narrow wheel pants. Thanks, Dan

RE: Mercurio
Have to agree with Dave. I flew a Neptuno (also a JL plane) in a similar scheme last year. Loved the 9 flowing multi-colors and the finish was superb. However, in the air, all the small colors blended into a blob of grey and I had a hard time seeing the plane. Dan

RE: Contra Rotating Propeller Drive for f3a 2m Pattern Planes
Looks like, when the nose ring is trimmed off as far as it can be without cutting into the lower part of the cowl, the contra spinner diameter is still slightly greater than the nose ring diameter? Your adaptor/spacer also helps match this mis-match? Thanks, Dan

RE: P13 Reverse Spins
I have an additional issue: The first spin has a fairly slow rotational rate. When I put the sticks in the opposite corner, the plane does the 2nd spin rotation much faster. Thoughts? I use a high idle and some extra elevator throw to get the spin entry better. I should get a video. Thanks, Dan

RE: Proposed 2013/2014 Sequences
Like it a lot guys! Thanks sequence committee! Having not yet flown it.... my comments: - Like the commonality with P13 in some places - Difficultly level similar to P sequences without rollers, KE loops, and rolling loops is perfect IMO - 9)Stall turn: I'd rather see the 4pt on the way up - 11)Crossbox Humpty: I'm not a big fan of figures that force me to move in or out if I'm at the depth I like. That said, it's nice to have the opportunity to move in and out, especially after a stall turn or spin. Regards, Dan

RE: IMAC
Ahh - I see now that our objectives are different. You are looking for a map of your "ground track" - yes, should be quite achievable (and useful). I'm looking for an electronic judge - a whole magnitude more of complexity.

RE: IMAC
Thanks for bringing this idea up Brockflying! I too have been thinking a lot lately about the problems with judged competitions. With RC aerobatics, it would seem that the technology might exist to use positional and inertial sensors in each plane to collect data during a flight. I hadn't thought about iPhones - interesting idea, but I suspect the resolution, accuracy, and number of axes aren't adequate. In my dream embodiment, the sensor unit (light, small and cheap of course[:)]) record position in 3 translational and 1 rotational (roll) degrees of freedom. Inertial degrees of freedom in 3 rotational axis might also be needed/desirable to help judge roll rates, snaps, etc. I suspect GPS might not provide accurate enough positional info - so a triangular array of local transmitters would be set up (and somehow calibrated) on the perimeter of the flight area. Data would be downloaded after a flight and loaded into a program that analyzes the flight and matches it to the idealized figures that were attempted. A sophisticated algorithm would fit flight data to the figures and apply the downgrade rules that we all know and love. Perhaps some figures would score positive numbers![:D] I think possible, but probably not an easy app that somebody could whip out. Hard to see a profit opportunity for a commercial venture.... but if they were only a few hundred bucks, guys might buy their own for practice? Dan
