I have a converted engine from av8tor1977 and mine is a work of art too [:)]. I was also very pleased with communications with him. He is on the top of my list for the engine conversions.

These are all good modifications you had done. Thanks for sharing pictures. I am looking at taking away the dihedral myself and adding to the wingspan 5-6 inches. I will post pictures of the mods later.

RE: 24cc Echo conversion
rangerfredbob it is the .60 size stik with the 2 piece fuselage. This one has cut outs for the servos in the tail as well as the servo mounting plywood plate in the middle of the fuselage. I am also moving the firewall back and will sheet the tail with the 1/32 balsa - it just seems too weak for the gas plane for me. I have also took off the plate on the bottom of the end of the fuselage to get access to the tail from inside of the fuselage to strengthen the tail installation - there is almost nothing there to hold the tail in the fuse once it is glued to the cutout in the fuselage. This kit is a good laser cut kit, but the glue job is pretty weak and hardware is not something to write back home about. rangerfredbob, would you mind posting pictures of your bird with the 18cc installed?

RE: 24cc Echo conversion
AV8TOR you are right. When I was taking the picture I had a couple of weights near the tail to keep the nose up. I have already took off (cut and pushed and pulled and so on) the front firewall and is going to make it shorter by at least 1". Fuselage already has a couple of cutouts for the servos in the very back close to the tail. Will work on it tomorrow. They used some kind of a white glue (I am not sure if this is a hot glue or not) to glue the airframe. It is not very strong. I am glad I took out the firewall. They had used balsa for the triangle stock between firewall and fuselage sides as well. As far as ground clearance, I am going to put taller gear and bigger wheels. Big props are expensive!

Forgot to add that the wing span is about 65" and the chord is about 15". Here is a picture with the prop on the engine crankshaft to show clearance to the ground.

RE: 24cc Echo conversion
I have decided to put this Echo on the Stik that I got from the *-bay. Had to strip the covering on the fuselage (needed to add strength to it). I also think that the prop does not have enough clearance with the stock landing gear - about 3-1/2". Will end up putting a taller and wider gear, and bigger wheels.

RE: 24cc Echo conversion
Coil and machined flywheel weight is about 449 gr (15.8oz) - this is from the different engine, but it is pretty much in the ball park. You probably will end up with the weight of the engine that is about 1554-449=1105gr I have ST90 (Italian version)and with the mount it's weight is about 697gr plus 134 gr for the muffler and the total is 831gr May be AV8TOR would comment on the gas/glow and no flywheel and coil conversion

24cc Echo conversion
Here is one more engine conversion. It is 24cc Echo engine. Conversion was done by AV8TOR. I have put Xoar 16X8 prop on it. Hand starts are easy (I had Fuji32B in the GBS and can compare Fuji to Echo). Craftsmanship on the conversion is superb. I had run this engine on the test stand today to take some pictures. I am not able to report on the engine speed, my tachometer did not read this Xoar right (it showed 24000rpm at open throttle). Anyway, I like this engine a lot and looking for a plane to put it in. If anybody has good suggestions for the plane, or have experience with the same engine please post in this thread. AV8TOR thanks a lot for a good running engine!

Great Planes Super Sportster48" to Norvel 0.40glow conversion
I had converted my Super sportster to 0.40 Norvel glow power. Had to do some modifications (cut firewall ) and put battery and receiver in the fuselage behind the canopy. Here are some pictures. Can you say UNLIMITED VERTICAL! Now have to fix the elevator due to the flatter. It sounded like a semitrailer was hitting on the j-brake. Have HS 81 MG on the rudder and elevator and hs81 on the ailerons and throttle. Put hobby king 750mah A123 for the receiver. Here are some pictures. Still need to finish the cowl and the fuel tank hatch.

I think they do know, they are not allowed to post any comments. Locok at this thread:[link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_7974365/tm.htm]Futaba FASST Receivers with Dots [/link] question about dots was asked on 9/21/2008. And what is the answer: "We have asked Futaba about their significance. As soon as information is available, it will be distributed." Somebody can probably take a cruise ship and sail to Japan and back faster than e-mail send received-send from Hobbico to Futaba and back to Hobbico (assuming Hobbico had asked Futaba question in September last year)o

RE: Futaba/Hobbico Response to 'DOTs' or lack of response!
All, shall we stop the thread and move on either with new radio systems or with new receivers from futaba that can be used in the summer time or shall we try to get an "answer" to the "dot conspiracy"? Seems to me that hobbico/futaba or futaba/hobbico is doing nothing and ignoring numerous posts about the dotted vs no-dotted receivers and about the heat issues. they probably think yeah, what ever you say or do you are in the corner and either will buy new receivers or new systems and the issue will be over in half a year and we do not care if we lose 100 or 300 cutomers, it is a drop in the bucket for us; so, go ahead and complain and we will watch the show and enjoy it. We just love to see you fighting with each other over the little dot on the receiver. Sorry for being sarcastic, but this is fact of the life... Shall we consider and buy Aitronics till they have the $229.99 8 channel with 2 receivers deal till the end of this month? Happy Flying.

RE: Futaba/Hobbico Response to 'DOTs' or lack of response!
I think futaba does not want to admit the problem because at the introduction of the 7C FASST system futaba had to check (there was a warning on the futaba web site) the first batch of 7Cradios for programming error (binding problems of different radios to the same receiver or something similar); 7C owners were advised to send radios in or to go to the designated locations (mostly at hobby shops) to have radios checked. Then it is the heat issue. It does create bad publicity to have two problems in a row with the same system. These are technical problems and could be solved one way or the other. But what bothers me is the is the fact that neither hobbico nor futaba represented by Bax and Crysta keep silent and do not answer posts.

RE: Futaba/Hobbico Response to 'DOTs' or lack of response!
I agree with CiprianGugu's position. If Futaba (Futaba is Hobbico to me in USA) does not want to aknowledge the problem and do an exchange (50% paid by the customer as somebody had suggested on this or some other forum or whatever) and they do not respond to the posts on the Futaba (please note, on the Futaba and not Hobbico support forum) forum to the posts on the heat issue (they had responded to the other posts) then al least for me there are two choices: 1. move on with my life, forget Futaba/Hobbico and get a different brand radio and do not support vendors/manufactures who wants to "sweep the "heat issue" under the rag" in a hope that customers who have been supporting them with their money will excuse poor Hobbico because it is not them, but bad guys at Futaba in Japan would not admit the problem and bad guys are too far away and do not monitor this forum and do not know that receivers fail but by a miracle came up with a dotted version of receiver that does not have heat issue. 2. keep complaining in a hope that this info will spread over the support sites and Hobbico will do something; at the same time if Futaba silently fixed the problem other folks will still buy their products because some people had already paid for the R&D and Futaba/Hobbico or Hobbico/Futaba is making and selling a good (at least in a heat resistance sense) product now. At least say "yes, we know that there is a problem, but can do nothing about it or our terms of the contract with Futaba do not allow us to step up and recall the affected receivers. Then at least customers would not feel fooled and ignored. And by the way this is not about money only, it is also about treating customers! And last but not least, the forum was about the Futaba/Hobbico's position on the issue - do not admit the problem and not who is Bill's and Krysta's employer. At this point I care less if they work for Futaba or for Hobbico, it does not matter to me to whom I am loosing my money. Happy Flying !

RE: Futaba/Hobbico Response to 'DOTs' or lack of response!
I also of the opinion that Futaba should acknowledge the heat issue with the receivers. Their reps have been silent so far! I posted a question on the Futaba support forum and there was no answer. All posts with the questions about heat issues are ignored! I have three 617s and would not fly my planes in the summer time with these receivers. I am left with the choice of paying Futaba more and to buy three more receivers and even more in the future and waste my $300 dollars (for three receivers I already have) or I can buy a different radio brand - lets say Airtronics 2.4GHz (8channel) with 2 receivers for $229.99 at Tower (Tower and other vendors have a special deal on the Airtronics RDS8000 radio with two receivers) and buy additional receiver. At this point i will break evenly (if I compare one Aitronics radio with two receivers and one separate receiver vs 3 Futaba receivers) and then bying every new Airtronics receiver I will save $20.00. What do you guys think about this idea? I have requiested info from Global Hobbies for the heat tolerance of the Airtronics receiver and the answer was it is good for up to 100C (this is approximately a temperature of boiling water at a sea level) Here is the link to my post: [link=http://globalservices.globalhobby.com/globalforum/viewtopic.php?t=23722]RDS8000 FHSS 92824 Receiver heat resistance[/link] and an answer to it. Futaba reps do not want to answer the posts with the receiver heat issues. Futaba should campaign all the older revisions or recall and rework older versions, but they should not keep quiet and ignore the problem and the rc community. Happy Flying!
