RE: AkroMaster CL-20
I've built a few SIG Akro's, great little models. My setup, OS.15FP, uniflow tank, 50' lines, MA 8x5 prop. I use 10% nitro, 20% castor fuel. A small amount of weight needed on the tail to correct the C.G. You'll find the build very easy, just follow the instructions. ....John

RE: Which way do they fly Down Under?
Hi Raymond, another offbeat, but, amusing thread. "I might add to the discussion something further for thought - here in North America and some would argue in any civilized country, we drive our cars on the right side of the road while sitting in the left hand seat.".........GrahamC Well Graham, here in Australia we drive on the LHS of the road and still believe we're reasonably civilised. I have occasionally seen drivers who choose neither side of the road to drive on and prefer the centre of it. Also we used to see two people ( usually male and female ) sharing the driver's side of the car. This practice has unfotunately almost vanished since seat belt wearing became manditory. I fly C/L counter-clock-wise..............John

RE: three line throttle system
Using the ready made handle and bellcranks really saves a lot of time over trying to perfect the home made versions and pretty much guarantees immediate success. Once you've got them, then you've got 'em for keeps. Good luck with the model, you'll have hours of fun doing touch 'n goes and perfecting those 3 point landings.........John

RE: three line throttle system
I fly some C/L 3 line, it's great fun. You'll need a J.Roberts handle, one of the 3 line bellcranks and of course a third throttle line. Brodak have the parts, here's a link to the handle. http://www.brodak.com/shop_productdetail.php?ProductID=5592 heres a link to a bellcrank. http://www.brodak.com/shop_productdetail.php?ProductID=5570 It is possible to make your own bellcrank also. If you enquire on one of the C/L forums elsewhere you'll get lots of help and tips about Carrier models. Also look here for 3 line info. http://www.cheffers.co.uk/carrier.html .......John

RE: Possible Perfect PeeWee Plane?
Hey Milton, thanks for the cyano / nitro removing tip. I'm converting a Great Planes Combat Corsair to 3 line C/L, had a mishap with the cyano tube and it left a super glue river on the lovely dark blue covered fuselage ! The nitro cleaned it off in a few seconds......John BTW OS.25FP powered.

RE: Tanks
IMO there's no point in using a standard tank in any C/L model, whether you fly stunt or anything else. As PipeMajor has said, that type of tank will always start the flight rich, run O.K. mid flight, then go lean towards the end. All my C/L models use uniflow tanks, even scale and sport fun flyers. Uniflow tanks will deliver a consistent fuel flow right through the flight. I position the uniflow pipe near the front of the tank, makes the engine lean out just before the tank runs dry, so I get some warning.

RE: Phantom Mite
There was quite a bit of interest here in Phantoms and Mites a few years back, 2005 I think. I'm glad to say I may have been responsible, having build both types back then. If you do a Forum search the old threads should come up. Re the tip weight, my Mite did need a small washer glued under the wing tip ( see photo ). I flew it on 35' Laystrate, not much line pull with my model so lighter lines should be O.K. I've a attached some pics. of my Mite, which, still gets flown sometimes, although it did become a bit of a Hangar Queen when diesel fuel became very hard ( impossible ) to find here in Australia. I mix my own these days, problem solved........John

The plan was published in Aeromodeller magazine, so it may be available through X-List. http://www.xlistplans.demon.co.uk/ Also try asking on the Barton C/L Forum, many Aussies post on there, should be copy of the plan somewhere, it was a popular model. http://controlline.org.uk/phpBB2/index.php I even had the plan in the mid 1960's. Alas long gone...........John

RE: Need some help
Here's a couple of links for you to check out, if your looking for design ideas. http://www.the.elmores.btinternet.co.uk/telmore.html http://my.pclink.com/~dfritzke/ If you email Dave Fritzke, he may perhaps have some more C/L plans available. RCU have a C/L Forum too, try posting there for some plans. An ideal C/L learner package, once you're past the crash and burn stage, is the SIG Akromaster kit with a .15 engine, cheap too. You will find that the larger models are smoother to fly and with the Akromaster you're building a model guaranteed to fly very well indeed. There are many free C/L plans on the net, you've just got to find 'em.......John
