RE: RTI 2800 Experiances
I have 3 of them. They are work horses and are built to last. They are a little heavier than most in the same thrust category, but when you actually see and hold one, you will know why. I highly recommend them. Alex.

ESM T28 engine option question
Has anyone installed and flown the OS 300 FSR 5 cylinder radial in this model yet? I have been looking for an arf to stick this engine in and I am considering the T28. Thanks, Alex.

RE: Viper Rudder Help
I used a small zonas saw with the spline removed to cut the hinges, thanks for the idea Joser. I used the soldering gun with the thin pencil tip to melt away the old hinges. Worked like a charm. I added 2 maple block hard points between the 3 existing hard points. My friend Bill gave me 5 new robarts with the brass tubing modification on one side. This is going to be solid. I have the hinges glued into the rudder now. Next step is to glue the brass ends into the fin. I had time to look through everything. Looks like a maiden flight is set for Tuesday. Great Ideas all around, thanks guys. I will post pics of the maiden.

RE: Viper Rudder Help
Duncan, that's what I want to do. I'm planning on installing a total of 6 hinges with the brass tubing. It's a long rudder.

RE: Viper Rudder Help
Inbound, Thanks for the hot wire Idea! That should work fine to cut the hinges. The dilema I was having was getting the rudder off without screwing things up. I will fix it before I maiden it then. Thanks for the heads up on the stalling, Alex.

Viper Rudder Help
Hi guys, I just purchased a turn key, never flown, large Skymaster Viper. The builder addressed all of the modifications to this jet EXCEPT for the Rudder. The rudder was assembled using the 3 robart-like hinges. The hinge knuckles are located far from the trailing edge of the vetical stab. This causes alot of flexing of the rudder. How can I remedy this without causing too much wreckage to the rudder and vert. stabilizer? Someone has to have been in my position as this was a major issue with this jet. Do you think I can maiden it as long as I take it easy on the speed and rudder usage? Thanks, Alex.

RE: Cougar Wiggle
The weather did not cooperate last Tuesday, but today was perfect. Went the to field. I was a bit apprehensive at first, never have flown with a gyro. I had this felling that the gyro would take over my controls and carry my plane away forever. LOL. The roll out was percect and as soon as the jet rotated, I knew the gyro was working. The Cougar did not wiggle at all with the gyro on the rudder. It flew straigt as an arrow with absolutely no dutch roll. I thought that I would feel the gyro working against me, but It was fine. I had the gyro gain set on a rotary knob just in case I needed to deactivate it in a hurry. My initial setting seemed appropriate. Thanks you guys for your help. Alex.

RE: Cougar Wiggle
Alright guys, I installed the G770 Gyro on the Cougar. I put the Gyro on the Rudder servo and the gain on Aux 5 (rotary knob on 12X radio). Everything is working lovely. I can increase and decrease the gain fantastically. I did not set it up for heading hold. The question I have is the following: Can I install the gyro right over the receiver? In other words, for clearance purposes, in my cougar, the only place for the gyro is right over the receiver (2.4 R221). I can install it over the main fuel tank, but that would require extensions and I would prefer not to use them. I range checked it with my brother and everything seemed to work just fine moving the nose left and right with the gyro compensating. Flight test on Tuesday.

RE: Cougar Wiggle
Thanks, Harry. What you describe seems to be exactly what I am experiencing. The plane really doesnt have a rolling issue, just a yaw instability. Like I said, without radio input, the plane flies straight and level, it just fishtails. The wings dip cyclically but correct themselves in level flight. I think I'm going to try just a rudder gyro first. Dave, I will look into the ACT Gyro. Who sells these? Im not one to judge things too much on their cost, but I feel weird installing an inexpensive gyro in a jet. Thanks for the help guys.

RE: Cougar Wiggle
Thanks for the advise. The cougar seems to wag the tail side to side on straight and level flight, keeping a straight line without any radio input. I figure this is due to the swept wing and short coupling of this jet. A friend mentioned using the futaba dual axis gryo on rudder and ailerons. The jet is flyable, but can be a little work to land sometimes. I may have to consider this one. Alex.

Cougar Wiggle
I need a recommendation on which gyro you guys are using. I need to install one on the rudder of my Der Jet Cougar to stop it from wiggling. This would be my first experience using a gyro.

RE: Where would you prefer to live in Florida??
Hi Tor, If money is no issue, I would recommend Naples/Bonita springs. That is a beautiful area with many amenities. As you go north on the coast, the cost of living seems to decrease through Fort myers, port charlotte, nokomis venice and then it starts to increase as you hit sarasota and move up towards tampa. I live in port charlotte, we can fly jets off a paved runway in cape coral and a grass field in punta gorda. There are 2 paved runways for jets just 30 minutes north of us in venice and sarasota. Basically, I have 4 flying fields within a 45 minute drive, 3 of which are paved. Good luck. Alex.

RE: 1/6th A-6 Intruder Scratch Build
Hi guys, I found a NEW 1/5 scale Intruder fuse with foam core wings for sale at my local hobby shop. It is from the "Flight of the Intruder" movie. It is on consignment from a gentleman who had it for many years and never did anything with it. It is only the fuse and foam cores. No formers, plans or gear with it. If interested, Call the Hobby Shop at 941-625-5524. Ask to speak with Mike or Brian. This is a huge jet, shipping will be tough, but i am sure they will work with the buyer. Alex.
