RE: SE5a 1/6 Scale
$300 for 2.5 years of modeling this plane. That's probably cheaper than your cable bill! Well I am trying to put some time aside this summer for my first scale build. A Proctor Antic. I know, it's not C/L, but it is an airplane. Just as I typed that I thought, why Not make it a C/L? [X(] Maybe I'll do just that! Thanks for the inspiration Steve. I feel as excited as I did when I first dicovered model airplanes. I'll just have to be sure that I keep an eye out for that staight jacket [:)] Thanks again for sharing your plane w/ us Steve. Dave

RE: SE5a 1/6 Scale
Well it's a good thing you don't have a lathe. I wouldn't put it past you to scale down an engine too, part by part. [:)] I never really cared too much about scale. Maybe because where I live at nobady has planes of this caliber. I see how it can be addicting though. When I was around 12-13, I chose to quite plastic models because it was getting out of hand. I wanted to reproduce all the wire, plumbing, seats, etc.. and go as small as I could. I never did build a model I was "satisfied" with. I figured I never would be. I can relate a bit about that, and I'm glad to see that You've built your perfect model. Even with the patients, I don't think I could bring myself to that level. I guess I would have to learn to "enjoy the road passing" than having expectations of the destination. Otherwise I think I would lose my patients, go crazy, quite R/C, and wind up in a stray jacket! [X(] In the mean time, I think I'll just sit back and enjoy your posts. [:D] Dave

RE: Good News for Senior Pattern in Midwest
I'm sorry. I'm not a member right now. I haven't joined yet because there really isn't anything going on here in Hawaii. I am the only pattern pilot here (I kinda feel like that lost bumble bee in that music video a few years back. [:)]) I've been watching, eagerly for an outcome of this debate. I do understand both sides, they both hold strong merits for there sides. But for me, I'd like to see a joined SPA/BPA contest. For me to attend, it will cost me at least $2000. I can't do this often, so I would enjoy flying with as many Pattern pilots as I can. I don't really care if there gear is up or down, but mine will be up.[:D] I would love to fly in a novice class w/ Mike McConville, that would be more rewarding than placing! And remember we already have Mr. Jason Shulman hooked on the classics. He Has shown up already with his Aurora and I know he was looking for an Atlanta a while back. I think there are a few laid back BPA guys that just want the experience of sharing time with people of common interest, I know I do. But there are a few competitive pilots out there that are more serious it. I mean it IS a contest, so the rules should help those guys practicing and gearing up for competition. I'm sure MM or Jason wouldn't appreciate it if they took time out to compete in a serious contest and the CD didn't see it that way. I hope I'm not offending anyone, I know this is a touchy subject with some, and I am an outsider (non-member) but I just want come out there and fly my planes with you guys. [:D] Maybe we could plan an SPA/BPA Fly In sometime??? Just a thought. DM

RE: Super Kaos Junior Build
Very nice modification. That is what makes building such a large part of this hobby. Ability to "tailor" your planes to the way You want it to be. I don't think you would disturb the authenticity going electric. You need to decide if you want to hear the scream of a 2 stroker with a nice light trail of exhaust or you want a clean oil free buzzing plane? You'll be the one flying her. But you are retracts.... right??? [:D] Your workmanship is clean and first rate. I'll be sure to stay on top of this thread. DM

RE: Skymaster Plans
The CD Is the way to go. I couldn't believe how much it started to cost to get some plans made. Kinkos charged me $6 for the first scan, then only $2 for each additional. That would make it about $30 for the twelve 12 plans you've listed... What A Deal!! Or you can Email the files for free!! Roguedog is one smart guy. He picked up one of those old daisy printers. The ones that have to paper connected almost endlessly. He cuts out the fuse into a file, then the wing, the tail... Then he can print out each piece of the plane, At Home!! [X(] Damn good idea, wish I thought of that!! That is a VERY impressive stock of plans, I don't even want to think about them as being kits [X(] Like navnav says.. That could keep a guy busy. Heck I don't think I would ever have to shop around again, well except for balsa of course. DM

RE: Ace Super Pacer - I'm building, any tips?
The Super Pacer is a great plane. I had a SP years back. It was built as per plans and lasted through some heavier landings. I also had fixed gear on mine. I have another kit and plan to have MK retracts in this one. I think with an OS 32 piped and some newer small servos and Li-po batt. the plane would scream. Start a build thread, if you have the time. I do know that Roguedog (an other member here) also has a SP and is planning on starting that soon. Oh.. The canopy! To me the canopy made this plane, it just fits so well to the look of the it, but I do see what you're going for. Maybe a modified fin? DM

RE: Sig Somethin Extra Mods??
YEL914.. The lttle picture doesn't give your plane justice! I enlarged it and stared for a while, beautiful job!! bps.. You know I wanted to invert the motor, but a friend talked me out of it. He didn't like the thought of changing the thrust position. If I can't find my C/F cowl, I think I'm gonna change it to the way I wanted it in the first place! Besides, yel914's SSE looks soo good with that nose! I forgot to mention to Deadeye.. The SSE balances WithOut any lead! Just move the batt. around to change fore or aft. and Lots of room, only one servo in there, throttle. DM

RE: Sig Somethin Extra Mods??
ORIGINAL: Deadeye I'm building one right now. I plan on increasing both the elevator and rudder, and counterbalancing them. I'm sliding the Horizontal stab forward, and the vertical backward to increase rudder throw. Dubro super strength gear for prop clearance (saito 82, 15X4 APC). I've also modified the firewall to hold the 82 at a 9 0 clock position. I'm thinking of mounting the elevator servo in the tail. I've modified the wings for flaps. Tail wheel will be replaced with a Sullivan. And the tail braces will be replaced with pull pull cable. Pull pull on rudder too. I think that covers my mods. Good luck with yours.
Deadeye, I have a Saito 91 in mine. I had plane since 1998 or 99. Never did fly it yet, too many other projects jumped in front.[:'(] I did just as you are thinking, move the servos to the back. I put 3 back there, 2 hitec 225BB and one Futaba 135SH on the rudder. The rudder is a pull-pull w/ a wheel instead of arms. The wheel is just right to protrude through the sides. I mounted the servo to the cover. Seems to work ok, at least on the ground. I would suggest using carbon push rods for your elevators, unless you use a smaller servo, then you can get them closer and shorten the linkage length. I didn't do much up front. Chopped off the sides and wraped glass cloth over the firewall to about 2 inches back on the sides of the fuse. I also went around the top and bottom as well. The landing gear block also received the same reinforcement. I made some caorbon fiber wheel pants and a cowl, but I can't seem to find them. I also lost the wing tube. Does anyone know where I can find a replacement? I plan to have this finished in about a month ( I have 4 other planes I'm working on as well, I think I have a little A.D.D. [:)]) Can't wait though, All I here about this plane is how good it flies and owners are always saying, "I'm going to build another!" DM

Oh My God!! You put a 140DZ in your Jekyll?! Your the kind of guy I'd like to go bowling with Phil! [:D] I just got my hand on a Jekyll airframe. Everything is new, just had the right stab come loose on transit, not too bad though considering. I'd love to hear more about your Jekyll with the 140DZ. How is your landing speed? I couldn't figure out what size to go with. The plane is bigger than the old 60s (that I'm accustomed to) but it so damn light. Sorry for that bit of passion, but it is light!! Almost like something is missing. I can't wait to get this in the air. Oh I'm so looking forward to this new year!! DM

RE: Falcon 56 III Speed Build
JLK, I love the part about the monokote, I Did The Same Thing! Couldn't wait to get started on a Mark's Model, Wanderer 99 That I picked up built but with no covering for $10! You didn't mention what kind of iron you were using. I had my mother's clothes iron. I had to work on it until my father would signal to me that shes driven up the drive way. [:)] Jim, These planes do perform, I think that's why this kit has out survived so many others. It can be tame as a pussy cat, or it can haul butt and scream with the rest of them! My last falcon was a MK III with a flat wing also. I had an OS 45 fsr w/ a Mac tuned pipe. I loved that set up. The plane would be stable while inverted, full throttle, less than 2 feet off the deck. I friend of mine at the time said I sould build a wing with retracts on top for touch and goes! That would have been different! Well, sorry I didn't finish the plane for this past weekend [&o] The weather wasnt too good here anyway. But I did a couple little things in between the shopping and the egg-nog gatherings [:)]. I managed to build the stab and the fin. I know the fin is just matter of gluing 3 pieces together, but try it when your baked on egg-nog! [:D] I also coved the center section of the wing. I'm still not too sure on covering schemes. I think I'll go with the old original red and black. Does anyone have some good photos of that one? I lind of remember the black outlined the wings' T/E, tip and followed down the centersection. The stab mirrored the wing and the rudder also follow that same idea. I'll search some old mags for an ad. DM

Lightning, I have an Antic kit. I haven't started it yet, too many other kits going on right now, but if I can have the plans scanned to a pdf file and then mail you the file. You can easily have the file printed to a working set of plans by going down to Kinkos. I do have a few sets I plan to have scanned, but am quite poor at this time (long vacation and over spending for x-mas will do that[:@]) but if you can wait about a week I can email you your set. I can also trace out any parts you may need to make. Let me know. For now here's pics of the 3 sheets of plans. If close ups pics will tie you oveer until I have them scanned, just ask [;)] DM
