RE: Should Hitec replace planes from lock outs
once upon a time i put a brand new reciever and crystal in my ultimate biplane. yes it was hitec. the only equipment ive had fail in an airplane, hitec. trashed the ultimate, broke the crank in a ys 120. felt i should have new equipment other than my old used futaba recievers. i got a new reciever and crystal from hitec and so sad too bad. if buddy gets a new plane, i will await shipment on my new ys engine and a ultimate arf

RE: Brownouts....
pretty hard to brown out a123 batteries. specktrum destroyed three airplanes no fail safe etc the first recievers didnt go into fail safe etc pretty hard to sell me the new improved version. yes they work better but still hear same problem no throttle down no control and enough time to verify no control.

RE: frsky quality
non telemetry i have it velcroed to the back and have flown it over two hrs with a dle 20 gas engine. it works no offer of even a replacement module. so at least it would fit in the slot it is supposed to. they answered a couple of emails one was damage in shipping.

RE: Engine Help
the pulse hole in the carb or block may have some material flash in it, pump not in right. most will not draw fuel until engine fires. but once it starts should be away. if it has a set of reeds under the carb check they are seated no tears etc. walboro is sorta simple but pluged or no pulse no work

frsky quality
I got a module from hobby city for my futaba 8u, plugged it in and wouldnt bind. this seemed odd. tried and tried. pulled it out of the radio and shook and heard a rattle. upon opening the case, found the plug which covers the female pins off. also one of the female broke. quick resolder put plug back on and same thing. This time when block came off pulled a pad off the board with one of the female pins. the pins got shorted out. rf doesnt work anymore cooked the 72mhz module when i pluged it back in and a corona 2.4 diy as well. worst part about it the dammed frsky works flawless, soldered a balance tab from a battery pack to board pluged the balance tab to my second 8u and it works. no product support from frysky. they are in china so accountability is nil. this is a common problem ive found from reading posts about frsky.

RE: Maxair Revolution II Velox
i picked up a velox last summer and sorted out an rcs 140 on it.my ignition died so a freind of mine wanted to try a ryobi 28 on it. surprisingly its not bad we are no 3d fellas but it will hover sorta got some pull out and we are turning a 16-8 3 blade master airscrew 7700. it even hand starts from cold. it will go from a hover to a dot in the sky but just not rocket like . this is a very delicate airplane to handle with your hands but takes anything ya can throw at it. also my gas engines havent shook it apart. the gear has been taken out twice. my guess prolly about 250 landings on this thing many were dead stick from about 40 ft in the air with the cursed rcs. That thing finally got sorted out a strong little engine just no where near worth the money they charge for them. the ryobi if it was only a bit lighter electonic ignition will only save about 4 ounces. the velox is a fantastic airplane. only ya in the range where the engines like 20-30 percent nitro .

RE: RCS 140
one yr or so later and the quiting at low throtle seems to be sorted out it was an igniton problem. now the last issue for now is a slow speed violent manuever or inverted flight will give an almost d stall pulling the stick back catches it but still dont know why. decent power but dont hear much about these engines anymore

RE: electronic ignition
tried again after a bit last night leaned the low end had a good consistent run. this thing is frustrating. this is the second summer ive spent trying to get it working. im getting closer hopefully. runs like a champ when it runs. the rcs ignition is a bit on the mickey mouse side as far as the way its assembled. i wouldnt ever buy another

walboro carbs
is it normal to have small bubbles in the line to a walboro when the engine is running. it causes pulses in the rpm but doesnt stop the engine.tank connections are tight carb draws fuel without a problem and dont seem to have air leaks. transitrion is almost instant slows to an idle fast and smooth. this is on a rotary induction rcs 140. have tried different carbs all are doing it to some degree

RE: RCS 140
almost sounds like a small air leak when the engine gets hot. the rotary drum case fit at low rpm may not be giving enough suction to draw the fuel into the base. sounds outrageous but very possible. have you got a lot of shaft play from the bearings working in the case. im getting 8400 on a 17-8 apc open exhaust. 8200 on a vodka cooler bottle and about 8050 on a 30 cc muffler ive adapted so its not to bad in the power department. ive got a zama carberator here that is very close in throat size im gonna try it. my engine is coming around just about to where im happy but the torture is not woth it. i have a very low idle when its hot . my velox can be held stationary on ashphalt by applying full up elevator. im trying to hover etc usually my dead stick is about 20-40 ft in the air with very little airspeed. good thing airplane is a light flyer

RE: RCS 140
i was at 40 to 1 before i got to this point. the engine quits a low rpm may just be a little lean on the bottom and running itself out of fuel. their is no binding or anything have gotten to it seconds after its quit. the engine when hot has a slight play in the crank back and forth none when cold. im having the plug cap troubles as well comes loose turns etc that may be the problem. its also hard to restart after it quits seems like the carb has been run dry but the fuel is still at the nipple with a bubble in the line. ive also got the newer thicker plate installed under the carb. i can fly at idle for probably 6-7 minutes with blips of throtlle and a few wide open runs till it quits. can fly wide open full tank till its time to land. anyone have walboro troubles similar to what im describing. no cowl on it. i cant fly inverted wide open or it wll die pull back the throttle she picks up again same on the vertical.

RE: RCS 140
i had to have my head fixed as well. a fella made an aluminum piece taped the head to 1-2 13 and then 10mil for the plug also in with sleave retainer. after doing the bearings i had to put a.010 shim under the back plate as my crank is back about 2-3 thousands from putting the retainer around the mickey mouse washer that the rear bearing runs against. best it ever worked doesnt go lean at high rpm anymore just quits for no reason that ive found yet

RE: RCS 140
i made the mistake of buying one of these things bout 5 yrs ago used here on rc universe. the engine never worked right from day 1. the case is absoloutely mickey mouse. the steel machined parts are beautiful. mine is finally coming around after much much frustration . the biggest culprit is the fit of the bearings in the case, giving way to air leaks. i replaced both front and rear and have them in with locktite sleave retainer. the rear bearing has nothing to retain it. so the way it is done is an aluminum washer with an oil seal machined on the center. this is in the case with belzona or emetal of some sort. rediculous price for something of this quality. i cant get it to run consistently. runs really well and all of a sudden dead stick. not sure if its ignition or carb now. plug is a nice tan collor when removed after the engine quits. and runing 100-1 optimal i fly it at idle a lot on my maxair velox now . it transitions well not bad power just quits for no apparent reason. not overheating im sure. share your experiences

RE: gas fuel with glo plug no ignition
a good oil at 100 to 1 mixed with the right amount of metanol and gas would be best bet the engine will be fine as far as the oil part goes. but the oil has to mix with the methanol as well as the gas. been wanting to try this myself but dont have a glow plug adapter

RE: Maxair Revolution II Velox
i recently purchased a velox and did my first flights with an old ys 120 sf. nice. then i went to work on my rotten rcs 140, finally sucess. more power than the 120, almost unlimited vertical. but not a speed wagon . just a nice nice flyer on gasoline. best landing model ive ever flown also the best slow flyer. rolls like its on a wire but i cant get a knife edge loop. the rcs still is too rich on the low needle and doesnt like it when i go inverted. this is in the float lever i think. best its ever worked great combo the velox and the rcs

RE: RE: gas fuel with glo plug no ignition
from one of rc ignitions comments i understand that amsoil 100-1 will mix with metanol the same as gasoline so is it possible to run a ryobi at 80meth 20 gas 100-1 mix? it is hard to find oil othewr than klotz or gas turbine synthetic that will mix with metanol or methylhydrate

this is part of a major turbine manufacturers instructions concerning tools to be used. the reasoning is that the oil will lift the chrome finish on the tools wich can put foreign material into the engine. some of the posts above cocern the changing of oil and the degredation of the oil. uder max fuel flow the combustor temps can get over twelve hudred degrees the metals will withstand in the order of 1600 f this will form carbon in the oil over time also there are some wear items carbon seals etc which leave their residue in the oil my model engines are older most no prizes will use old oil no problem its cheap fuel i fly by the gal per trip to the feild not a gal a summer. makes sense for me. if a model engine can get 20-30 gal put through with out bearing failures you are doing well. the bearings have a given number of rotations with proper care until the molecular structure starts to fall apart. this was very evident on older asp engines. the alloys in the steel balls fell apart real fast. price usually determines quality usually

THE TOXIC QUALITYS OF TURBINE OIL ARE NOT AN ISSUE IF YA WORK ON TURBINES YA GOT IT ON YOUR HANDS AND TOOLS ALL DAY. THE ONLY THING THAT COMES TO MIND IS IF A PLATED WRENCH WITH A SCRATCH IS CONSTANTLY USED IN THE OIL IT WILL EVENTUALLY DEBOND THE CHROME. INDUSTRIAL FINISH IS TO BE USED. SO IT SOUNDS LIKE THE PEELING OS LINERS AINT SUITABLE.
