RE: Funjet Ultra
Yah, I kinda figured that was the only solution. BUT I've found an alternative that I think I'm going to use. It's in Swedish but pics are worth a thousand words. http://www.svensktmodellflyg.se/forum1.asp?viewmode=1&msgid=235031&page=&CurrentMainTopic=11&replypage=99 Thanks.

RE: Funjet Ultra
That works for permanent installation with no access after it's built. I need a method of gaining access to it after it's built and it's width figures into the problem. Thanks.

Funjet Ultra
Just got this bird and I'm trying to fit an ICE 100 in the fuse. It's a tight fit but by crushing the foam, I can insert it from the top (only) and then only prior to gluing the turtle deck. What with the ears and the case screws, it's too wide to fit through the rear. The only way I can see getting it in is prior to gluing down the turtle deck. That works BUT if and when I need to access it, I can't get it out without destroying the turtle deck (as the deck is glued down). How do I get it in so it's removeable (if needed)??

throttle servo for Nitroplanes Yak54
Putting this giant scale yak together and one thing I hadn't noticed before: no slot for the throttle servo. It's the new/original version (one that does NOT have the tunnel and the elev servos are in the fuse, not the stab). There is a cutout for the (dual) rudder servo(s) but that's it. Anything forward of that is just a uncut piece of ply with no cutouts. I've seen where one can make a bracket inside the engine box to mount it but I've never encountered this situation b4. Then again, I've never finished a Nitroplanesbird b4 either. Suggestions?

RE: 50cc Yak 54 Help me out guys!!!
ORIGINAL: 3D Romeo I just got done weighing everything that comes with the new version Yak...everything was weighed exactly as it comes out of the box (all the parts were still in there plastic bags, the cowl was still wrapped in foam, etc.) Rudder - 4 oz Elevators - 5 oz each Wings - 27 oz each Cowl - 11.5 oz Canopy - 8.5 oz Wheels & Spats - 5 oz Hardware & Fuel Tank - 16 oz Wing Tube - 9 oz Stab Tube - 1.5 oz Landing Gear - 12 oz Fuselage - 67 oz Total - 198.5 oz (12.4 pounds) Now add... 56-64 oz for an engine, muffler, and ignition. 8-16 oz for batteries 16-24 oz for fuel 8 oz for servos ...and you're looking at a Yak that will weigh 18-20 pounds!!! Don't get me wrong, it'll probably still fly very well at that weight. As I know Lanier Yaks come out to slightly over 20 pounds AUW. But you can probably forget that 'foamy' feeling...which is what I was looking for! Mark
Oldish thread but I couldn't pass up the price. I just got this (it should be the new version as the dealer just got it indoes not normally stock them) and weighed it straight out of the box: This is their pic (not mine): in grams Rudder 125 Elev 262 Wing L 715 Wing R 775 Cowl 360 Canopy 254 Wheels, spats, HW & Tank 591 Wing/Stab Tubes 324 2 Piece Gear 356 Fuse 1692 5454 gms 12 lb So they lost about 1/2 lb. compared to yours. There is NO tunnel in this one and from a quick look see, none of the issues you described (no glue, etc) are present. I would hazard a guess they went back to version 1 of this plane. They use those purple posts instead of wire horns for control surfaces and include h.d. arms for rudder. Also, the inside-the-fuse wing tube is the standard (hard) phenolic? tube that is supposed to be there, not your "paper with Elmers" ;) tube. Adding in a da50 + muff adds about 3.8lb (what's the ign weigh?) so 15.8 lb. Fuel at 1lb and batts at 1/2 lb and servos at 1/2 lb gives us AUW of about 17.8 lb. Their web sites shows AUW at 17.6 lb (they include fuel?? who knows). I've got a Kangke 27% extra all up weight at 17 lb (no fuel) which flies like a dream. I expect this to be in the same category.

RE: what is maac
ORIGINAL: jeffreyheslop yes i understand that the rules are there for a reason, but what about people who want to fly when ever they want, i was told that you can only fly on this day at this time with this member, if they can make it if not you cant fly. why would i want to pay, if i cant fly when i want, understanable you have to comply with the people living in the area. but where is teh fun in flying when they say when and how. i'm not no cowboy, i want to fly and just relaxs. i've been to the field up in duncan. and they are the best bunch of guys i've ever met. and yes they have rules, flying only on sundays, but in the summer there is also evning flying on tues and thrus. when i first got into the sport, i had no idea on what i was doing, i smashed up my first planebut when i went there they were so helpful, they fixed up my plane with me showd me what i have to do and stood beside me till i felt like i was ready. there is no judgment on anyone, you can show up with a pos and thell help you get it up in the air, from old to young rich to poor, they don't care they are there to have fun. so thankyou for clarifying why the vic flying club is a stick in the mud, but i am going to continue to drive to duncan and enjoy the flying without needing permision
Wow! Sounds like Victoria is better off without you. Rules are meant to protect what they have now. Getting some jockey in there who wants to do whatever he wants "without needing permission" is NOT what they need. EVER!

RE: anyone have any good designs for a bracket for transporting and 27% edge for a small pickup truck?
If you have access between the side supports and the box itself, use bungee cord(s) wrapped once around the gear in an X pattern. Will keep it from moving forward/backward. Just ensure that the tail is held down as either a fast stop or fast start will cause the plane to rotate around the now-fixed gear.

RE: WARNING-X9303 CHAFED AILERON GIMBAL WIRING
ORIGINAL: Josey Wales http://www.jrradios.com/Articles/Article.aspx?ArticleID=1822
Didn't want to lose my place so I thought I'd post this now: I just got x9303 and was aware of this issue. Per the pics in the above link, my wires were "wound around" the post as in Horizon's solution. BUT Having the wires wrapped like that, it caused severe restricted elevator when moving the stick for up elevator. So their fix is not necessarily going to work and the original idea posted by Howard (moving the curly-Q retaining wire out and loosening some of the wire (there is plenty) appears still to be the best solution. Airbusdrvr I see has already alluded to the "up elevator binding" that I discovered later.

RE: Post Flight Cleanup
ORIGINAL: riadh All of the above liquids are aimed to clean the plane covering but what about the engine! In your opinion, does it require any post flight cleanup and what would be the best method for that?
Not much while it's still on the plane [sm=72_72.gif] . The crockpot method is good if you feel you must have a shiny one after removing the engine. More trouble than it's worth in that no mess is going to drip off it (stuff a piece of paper towel in the muff so drips don't come out that way though).

RE: Post Flight Cleanup
ORIGINAL: DavidAgar I use windshield washer fluid. I get a gallon for $4.00. Good Luck, Dave
Get the summer version for a buck a gallon (unless you fly in the winter and need the below-freezing qualities). In a spray bottle and paper towels, works just fine. Or even better, next time you go to Mickey D's, grab a few extra napkins to replace the paper towels.

RE: ARF -Dauntless why has it not be done ?
ORIGINAL: Phenius Fullofit The Dauntless has always been one of my favorite planes. I too believe it will sell. I know I'm ready for one in the 60 to 72 inch wingspan size. While reading this thread some guy mentioned the Boulton Paul Defiant. It's hard to believe anyone would make it, but they did, so I hauled off and bought one. From the pictures I will have to vaccuform a new canopy, turret and exhaust stacks. After its re covered as a nightfighter it should make an interesting model. RE: Robinaire 60 Size Rotating Retracts
Been a while since I wrote that post Lee and haven't done anything since. It is one of those tire pumps that I use. I do have a regular 5 gal compressor that would only be used in the house (painting) so no way to test it. It's not a concern though. I pumped 'em up and they lasted for 4 cycles and it did hold the pressure for 1/2 hr (I couldn't wait any longer :-) ). I'll decide on the collar when all is done. Thanks and continued success with your endeavors.
