50% 1919 Airplane
Hi everyone. I have wanted to build a large scale airplane for quite a while now. I have finally decided to go for it. I dont have any large scale experience, so all of this is going to be a learning experience. I searched for a while for something I liked, and looked not too complex. I found a 1919 George White Sport Monoplane (i found it before i realized a park flyer was being kitted, no biggie). I searched, contacted the Smithsonian, and they had no info to give. I got a letter in the mail from them a few months later saying they did have info. They provided me with 4 pages of the original documents. It appears to be all that would have been available. They contain all the measurements I will need. So now, I sit here typing. I have a 45cc engine, and am hoping it will be enough. I will shoot for a 11' wing span. That would be exactly 50%. I am hoping I can scale everything down, and not have any issues. I started last night and today figuring out wing ribs. I cut one from a 5/16 sheet, hoping that would be a good thickness. I quickly found it would be easier to my my ribs out of stick, wet and bend them. does anyone have any input on what I'm doing so far? Are my wing ribs too thick? I need to find other examples of aircraft from the same time to work out other details. Thanks everyone! trey

The stock ignition that came with the engine. I searched through the thread and found that 28-29 is good for it.

Anybody know what the timing should be an a venom 45? does 28 work on this ignition unit? found it, looks like 29 works good.

Thanks man. Tried that the other day. No spark at all. Didn't know if that was a good diagnosis, I've been told that on these engines, you can't see the spark. I found that hard to believe.

Any way to test Ignition unit?
Hey everyone. I have a Venom 45 gas engine. Have not been able to get it to start. Checked that the timing is correct. Getting gas, and not flooding. I know the ignition unit has been in a crash. Is there anyway to test the ignition to see if it is working? Thanks! trey

Still havent heard anything back from Tim. Chumly was nice enough to send me his parts from his bad engine. Hopefully I can use parts from his engine to put mine together. It's a real shame when a company wont support the products they sell.

Is Tim still on vacation? Is that why I cant get him to answer my emails about the parts he promised me?
ORIGINAL: Chumley Gary, I too tried to be nice and work with Tim. He made promises, but never delivered. The last message I got from him was asking for the number off my case and chastising me for an email that he mis-read. I sent the number off the case, but never recieved anything. I thought I was getting a reasonably priced motor, but based on the use I got out of it, it's too expensive. Tim says there are parts available for these motors, but I have no idea how to get them. I hope you have better luck. Chumley
I'm in the same boat. Have not heard back from Tim for a while now.

Any VP or AVP's post here?
I have some questions I would like to ask, and was wondering if anyone would be willing to answer them. If so, send me a message with your email, and I can ask them off forum. They aren't anti AMA questions. Just some questions about how the decision process of AVP's work. Thanks! Trey

Scratch Building a Ducted fan Jet
never tried anything like this before. I'm building from a set of plans, and loving it so far. My Dad started building this thing 20 some years ago, and never finished. I have the original plans now, so I'm doing it. Loving it so far, really glad I bought a scroll saw first. All the wing ribs are cut, and the Fuse formers are going on now. They are 3/32 lite ply. I have a lot to learn, but this is great. Its a Ziroli Phantom F-4, Slow process so far!

Time for a new engine
Hi everyone, I built a battle axe a year or so ago, and flew it quite a bit. I'm at high altitude, so with the OS .15la, i was pretty much full throttle constantly, just trying to keep it going forward. I think the poor old thing is beat. The compression is just about gone. I'm looking at engine choices, and the os .25 la is the same same mounting dimensions. I dont know if it will keep me out of ssc classes, but i only fly it for fun anyway. Would something like that be good power for my ssc battle axe airframe? It looks like the .25 might be more weight than power. Or do i need to find something else? thanks guys. Alex, thanks for making such a good plane.

RE: Twist 3D 150 ARF
ORIGINAL: lomcevek1
ORIGINAL: outacontrol41 Guys, the last few posts have me curious about your flying skills. I love the Twist and own three. I wrecked my first two .40 sizers learning and now I'm a much better pilot with my .60 and about to upgrade to the 1.50 size. One thing kerwin50 points out is they're (3D profile planes) ugly. Well said. You can bash H9 and the Twists all you want, but they make all 3D profile planes look like POS when compared sise by side. Furthermore....if you're banging your Twist tail against the ground, either punch the throttle to avoid that matter or learn how to 3D properly! If you need a nice soft padded foam profile plane to compensate for your questionable flying skills then by all means get the softest thing available that you can't hurt. Us real men (and women) have the skills to fly something made of balsa and not be afraid to break it. Nothing against soft skinned profile planes, I'm not countering your statements by bashing them, but the Twists, Funtanas and the like RULE the day. Don't believe me? Look at the long threads thriving about them on this forum. Happy Halloween.[:)]
Your kidding right ??? You have to be. Is there a link to any videos of a Twist, Funtana or the like being wrung out ??
id like to see this video also. i dont think anyone was talking about foam proflile planes either.
