RE: Help? Phoenix Models 63" Yak-54
Hi boltor: I haven't done any work on mine for some time and it appears to fly well as it is, but it has always budged me that their is a lump of lead the nose, I also have a Great Planes Pitts Special that has a 3 ply box on the firewall and I am fitting a Zenoah 45 gas engine to it, to me it looks an easy job too construct the same sort of thing on the Yak, then attach the engine mounts to that, I would judge how far forward by the amount that you could bring the Cowl forward, I also have an ESM Katana with the same problem, however I can't bring the engine forward because of the restricted Cowl, so it's stuck with a lump of lead up front. If you have a copy of the latest Aussie RCM news number 93 with the Spitfire on the cover, on page 36, that's the sort of thing, and attach your OS91 engine mounts to it, then move your cowl forward to cover it all up. Hope this helps. Cheers Greg

RE: Help? Phoenix Models 63" Yak-54
Another option is to build a box on the firewall and attach the mounts to that. There fore moving the engine forward, their is lots leeway and room to move the cowl forward also. Little bit of work but worth it if you can do away with 5oz's of dead weight, wish I had have realised this when I built mine, might still do it and get rid of that lump of lead. Cheers Greg

RE: Lost model alarms 2.4ghz
Have just received my Winged Shadow R/C Reporter. Good service, posted 22nd Air to Australia arrived 31st. Work's perfectly with my 2.4ghz JR DSX9 and Spektrum AR7000 DSM2 7 Channel Receiver connected to the Gear channel, with Fail-safe set. Cant see why it wouldn't work with the other 2.4ghz various channel Spektrum receivers. Cant comment about the Spektrum transmitters, but OK with the JR DSX9. Cheers Greg

Hi bolter, as reported earlier in this thread: Tail heavy is a problem. How much weight in the nose do you need to make it balance? Greg

RE: Lost model alarms 2.4ghz
Hey Al, I would like to see it work before I actually loose the plane in the scrub. Well remember the day that I lost the Diablo. We searched for 3 hours, just about gave up and the damn thing was right above us in the trees. A missing alarm would have saved allot of grief. Cheers Greg

RE: What is the next best aircraft to an authentic pattern plane?
I agree the old Intruder from World models is great and O so easy to fly, however the original is now hard to get, but I think they have a new Orange one out now, This is a shot of my old girl with a few mods just for fun. Also the GP Venus in both sizes are terrific. but the Pulse XT will do every manouver you need to get started in sportman class Greg

RE: Pitts/Fuji 50
At last I have started to build the Pitts, and for sure a close inspection of the fire wall looking from the inside just looks paper thin, even when you hold it up to the lite looking in from the tank area you can see lite through areas where it attaches to the fuse, bit scarey with a 45 Zenoah Gasser attached. so will cut away the area as suggested in other posts and beef it up, any suggestions re the best way to add strength. Cheers Greg

RE: Lets See Your Sky Raiders!!!
At the field yesterday noticed the same thing, one of the Raiders covering was starting to peel off, and it wasn't from the sheer speed in the corners trying to catch Grease's new racer on its first outing, had the same problem with my WM T28 the covering started to lift on the wings. I just throw a cloth cover over them while they are sitting in the sun, still must be a problem with that Tughlon covering they use, not to tough in the sun eh!. Cheers Greg

Yes that's right the position of the C of G remains the same. Attached is a guide that may help if you wish to check the Top Flite balance point Its a little rough but should be clear enough to read and figure out. I check all my planes with this guide, most are spot on but now and again they can be out. Cheers Greg

RE: CG
Al is correct, the balance point is the same at TF recomends, the wing dictates the balance point not the length of the fuse, if you need to add ballast to keep it at that so be it, measure back 3 7/8" the fuse or at the point TF recomends, add weight if required etc as campy said. You can bet that TF have it right. Cheers Greg

RE: How many kids in your club
G'Day Bill That's a little sad that you have no kids around, have you tried talking to the local school and maybe having a lesson or a talk on avionics and the principals of flight etc, then for those who show interest a lesson at the field with a turn on a trainer and buddy lead. We also live in a large population of retires, but there are still young families around. The other afternoon we were at our local bowling club for lunch. The old guys had lots of kids from the local school teaching them to play lawn bowls, we sat a watched and were those kids good, and the guys teaching them were just having the best time. Why not at your local flying field. [flying not bowling!] Recently we had a fun fly at our field and the turn up from the locals was amazing, we offered cheap food and drinks advertised on the local TV and radio, and they came out of the wood work, Father and sons everywhere. Bill I reckon they're out there, your club could have so much fun passing on all that knowledge, makes you feel young again. Cheers Greg

RE: Lets See Your Sky Raiders!!!
Those Skyraiders look great, we have a few in our club. as you can see by Al's photos. What are your rules with Plylon racing them, could be good fun for interclub competitions. They are $89 each in Australia, so not to expensive, I am sure lots of people have an old 40 or 46 stashed away that could be resurrected. Cheers Greg

What are the costs involved for kids in the US, say membership and Insurance for a year?. Do the kids get a discount with fees and Insurance. Do clubs bother to keep a trainer and a buddy cord available for interested visiting juniors, and seniors for that matter. Cheers Greg
