RE: LiPo Parallel/ single cell charging
Ah... so I can charge at 1C, or cell capacity. IE if I have a 2000 mah (2 amp) pack I can charge at 2 amps? 650 mah =.65 a max charge rate? Not 10% of the 1C rating? Where did I come up with the 10% thing? Is this "safe" discharge rating if not stated? And my 5 x 650 mah packs in parallel is 3250 mah so I can charge at 3.250 amps?? I hate to ask questions answered but I am questioning the 10% thing I guess. Wags

LiPo Parallel/ single cell charging
OK, first I am new to electrics/ lipos/ charging with anything but the transmitter/ rec chargers. I have searched and am confused I would appreciate any help. I have a Supermate DC6 charger. I am somehwat confused on charge rates/ amps/ etc. 1) I have a 11.1v, 2200 mah battery. It says 15C (I have no idea what this means) So, I set my charger to 3 cell (11.1V), and can charge at 2.2 amps safely? Right? 2) I have (5) 3.7v, 650 mah packs (20C... again WTF that means?) So, if I wanted to charge these in parallel my voltage is still set at 3.7v, right? But, what is my current set to .65 a max, or (650 mah x 5 batteries= 3250 mah) and set charge rate to 3.25 amps max? Or put another way... 1) When charging a single pack, I charge at 10% mah rating unless battery mfg says ok to charge at higher rate? 2) When charging in parallel add mah and charge at 10% of the total? 3) WTF does the 15C, 20C, etc mean? Thanks a bunch. I have searched and I think I know what to do. But, I am not to interested in setting the house on fire. Wags

RE: New to electrics/ opinions
The flying field is not hugely short, but I am lokinng for a over the bean field flyer. So, I'll just take the gear off. I really like the "fun fly" profile planes with real airfoil shaped wings. Npt into the flat foam pieces. And for a starter to see if I like it, want something small. If I like electric, I'll get a flying field piece. Thanks Wags

New to electrics/ opinions
OK, background. I have been flying rc airplanes for years off and on. I am a capable pilot. I havew had everything from eagle 20?? to ultimate biplanes, sticks, profile planes, etc. So, skill level is ok. I have always been a fuel guy. Never tried electric because it was junk (years ago). Now, I want to try one out. I live in the country, so flying area is not an issue. Smooth landing surrface is. (well, long and smooth). So, I want to jump in with something small to hand launch capable. 30" to 36" wingspan ish. I want to go profile plane cause they can be flown slow, do 3d, fly ok sport wise, etc. I have radio equipment JR. (but will have to get micro servos) I was looking at the performance aerobatics shock. Decent looking plane. Priced not to bad. I saw an e flite cap 232 maybe at the LHS. Also decent looking. So, any suggestions. Like I said... if I like it, I will step up to something bigger and go to the field. These smaller pieces can be tossed in the service van and stop by the field on the way home, thrown up in the air in the back yard, etc. Oh, I am not a 3d guy. I am more of a sport guy. Just like to be able to do some stuff if inclined. I also don't feel at all bad wadding up a profile plane. LOL Thanks Wags

I got one last week. It is not bad to fly. Do you have any heli experinece? If so, it is a heli. Nothing more, nothing less. I have flown mine, crashed mine, flown more, etc. I like it. It is pretty durable. I ran into the door, couch, almost hit the dog, etc. Take it slow at first. go from there. Wags

Guys...dont bash me to much here. I have a sim. I started flying planes and helis long before the sims existed. I am a hands on guy. I use the sim to practice 3d stuff, experiment, etc. Also, don't forget all of the younger guys (say under 30 ish) grew up with computers. Hell I was listening on the radio today...kids would rather play the rockstar video game than learn to play a guitar. Maybe a generational thing. Younger cannot live without a computer. RE: Saito 72 problem
I give...your method is much simpler. Remembering the firing order, which ones you have set, the valve that is 180 different than the current one. I agree. Your method is much better. There is no way to miss a valve with your SBC method. I am wrong. Your ap engie way is simple, fast and cool. I was trying to shed some light on engines outside our little world. Everyone, put your blinders on...airplane one cylinder engines are the only ones that exist. Wags Sorry for trying to elighten some as to another way to skin a cat. I will not try to explain the relations between intake and exhaust cycles. Appearantly the two valve cycles are not related (except to be on the same cam, same cylinder, same engine, but NOT other than that). I give. This horse has been beat to death. The best way to adjust valves is the one you are most comfortable and accurate with. Figure out that for yourself. I will not try and help anyone with engines in the future.

No, we must be speaking different languages. I am saying adjust on the base circle. I am saying how to get on the base circle. The one full revolution works just fine whan working on a 1 cylinder, prop as a marker engine. Try it on a v-8, rotating with a starter, no absolute maker for each cylinder. Or on any "conventional" if you will enigne. It would take you hours to adjust valves instead of minutes. As I said, probably best to disregard what works for me. I am not an airplane engine expert. I have a JR 9303. I fly a couple of weekends a month. I fly at a small club. They are pretty good about not turning on radios. It is in a relatively rural area. Is it worth it to spend the money? That is effectively what you are doing by this method. But if I were you I would discount what countless race engine bulders do (remember a four stroke engine is a four stroke engine) and go by whatever makes you happy. Also, make sure you are not open to others suggestions, as it is obvious you know all. Just a dumb race engine guy trying to simplify some things. Wags

RE: Saito 72 problem
Well, the way race engine guys usually set valves on 4 stroke engines... Probably not nearly as critical on a mild airplane engine camsaft, but extremely critical on big race engine cams. When the intake valve "rocks" (meaning goes to full valve lift and just starts to close) adjust the exhaust. When the exhaust valve just starts to open, set the intake. This works on all four stroke engines that I know of. On big camshafts (again, probably not our engines) it is easy to imporperly adjust valves if using the TDC method. Exhaust valve starts to open so soon after TDC, it can throw people off. Next time, take alook at the rockers while rotating the engine. It is pretty obvious. Just a tip from a drag boat guy. Wags

Well, I understand haul a$$. But fly well for a biplane is what I'm looking for. I can't bring myself to put a 2 stroke on these planes. I like the sound of a four, so that limits haul a$$ somewhat.
