RE: Buyer Beware - Extreme Flight RC poor customer service
Words of wisdom, EC. Did yo fly EC or RC-121s? We had a bunch in Korat Thailand. On subject, a caring instructor and a couple of fiend mentors really helps in the RC learning department. I guess a lot of new-bees do not fly on organized club fields any more. He may not be a new bee, I don't know. It's tough to have to learn everything the hard way. What a beautiful build!!! Don't stop now! Am enjoying the electric set up. I have a Hacker 60L with 2 ea 5000s Nanos in series that I am using as a test bed for an ESM P-39. Working good in a Funtana X, 12.5 LBS, 22" prop, Castle 120 ESC. Wallace Tharp

Bob, Maui No-cow-owi, pardon my ploor Hawaiian spelling. I'm going to Maui at the end of the month. Can't wait. I have been buying almost all fo my small misc from Tower or US shops. I try to support my LHS but that is a mixed bag. For starters I am 32 miles from the closest in PHX. Couple of shops have great help in the store and another, a chain, has a few R/C guys, and car or boat/plastic model people that will sell you something but have only monkey hear, monkey see other worker knowledge. Note to those interested in A123 lipos: Wall St Journal, today, you can google it, "Largest Chinese Target: Batteries" Our government under Obama has injected MILLIONS into it! The answer??? RE: TROY BUILT MODELS
I stated in another forum about shipping damage and Chinese service on returns etc. that I am really pleased with Percision Aerobtics, an Ausie Co that makes mostly small electric light and very aerobatic RC airplanes. My experience was last month I ordered an Extra-260, USA, PA, my 3rd one. All are still flyable, but banged up cowls, wingtip scrapes, etc. The first 2 probably had 200 flights on each. They are just the greatest small scale, aerobatic ACFT that I have ever tried. They were recommended to me by one of the owners of Chief Aircraft. He was flying one on his lunch hour every day in Oregon. Anyhoo, the box weighs just under 5 lbs and the shipping is quite reasonable....but, my last one came in it's usual double box, well packed and 3 crushed lower fus formers thanks to some ham-fisted handeling by UPS. You could see the crushed spot in the side of the box. Long and short; sent Steve at PA USA a text with picture and he sent me a brand new extra-260, no charge, return shipping sticker. He said he had to sent a complete matched model because the wing anit-rotation pins and wing tubes are custom fit. WoW! No, I do not work for and am not sponsored by either of these companies. Just sayin. Wallace Tharp

I agree, it is a subject primarily about an airplane and an important historical one at that. I am a WWII and history fan and I have looked ito the Swastika subject. For those interested, and it is fascinating....google/wikipedia the word and be amazed. Hint, the Navajos used the symbol and the Romans put it on floor tile in Spain. It seems to have been originated in India a very long time ago! True, it took Hitler to give it a bad name. Obviously it represents perpetual motion. Does this mean no round red balls in Japan? RE: Is China getting expensive?
Flew that PA Extra-260 today at AARCS, I probably have about 350 flights on two of them. Wow, just like a great 6 foot wing span perfectly built, designed and powered IMAC airplane. Love it! Also flew my Funtana 100, Hacker 60L electric with 2, 5000 MA 18.5 vlts in series. It's heavy, 12.5 lbs but flys well. And last but not least, my PA Addiction. Great small electric ARF from PA just to warm your thumbs up with. Couple drops of rain in PHX, right next door to Luke AFB today. Any R/C flying day is a good day! Hoping to put that 60L set up in as ESM P-39 and detail it out a little. Wallace Tharp

RE: Is China getting expensive?
Hemikiller, 2 questions, what do you kill "Hemis" with, eg., bigbock chevys, or preperation H? And, more to the R/C subject, do you or have you ever cut balsa with a lazer cutter or such for hire? Just a comment on an Auatrailian R/C company, bought my 3rd Precision Aerobatics Extra-260 a few weeks back and the UPS guy delivered it to my home in the usual, kit manufacturers box and an outer cardboard box. It appeared to be undamaged until I looked closly ast the lower fus. Three broken lower fus formers from rough treatment of the box. Bottom of the fus was taped to the side of the box but seemed to be well packed. Long & short, Steve at USA PA told me to just send it back, I pay no postage and they will send me a complete new one with return shipping lable eitc. When I questioned why not just a new fus, he said, our models anre all customb fit with wing tube to wing, and wing ante rotation pins, (carbonfiber), so they fit almost perfectly. And they do! I can not tell you how good these little super light, very hi tec airplanes fly. Was I happy? Hek ya! I do not work for PA and I am not sponsored by them in any way. Just saying there are alternatives to crappy ARFS. Warning, PA is not priced at the bottom and if you are a crasher or low on R/C budget it may not be for you. Wallace Tharp

RE: LETS SAVE SIG BEFORE THEY GET SWALLOWED BY THE BIG TWO!!!
Texskypilot, did you ask or did Sig tell you where they would have their kits manufactured? I suppose it would have to be mostly China. May be some other place like Thailand could do it. My friend Jef Hopper in Prescot Valley, AZ owned Advanced Lazer Cutting, or Concepts, I can't remember which. He had more work than he could do in about 1999. Mostly custom kits from plans but people like Sig and Lanier were calling all the time and asking how much for this kit and that. His labor was mostly women who worked fast and were really good with their hands. Pay was as I remember it, just above minimum wage. And there is the problem. What is it now, about $9 and hour. Er go, how do you/we compete with the PRC??? Just thinkin. PS, love the Monocoupe. I flew the full scale with my dad many years ago and I built & flew the Icon N'West quarter scale a few years back. US engines 41. My helper and advisor was Mr. Steve Crow of Chino Valley, AZ, a WWII spitfire pilot with 3 or 4 kills. What a guy, mosest and just a real pilot and RC modeler. It was the most difficult and time consuming model I ever built!!!!Wallace Tharp

RE: LETS SAVE SIG BEFORE THEY GET SWALLOWED BY THE BIG TWO!!!
I built the Astro Hog when it first came out. Flew great. The Sig P-51B is one of the best flying R/C aircraft I have ever owned. I'm guessing I have owned about 100. I wanted one all along when I saw them in the old RC Modeler and read how much everyone just loved the way they flew. I still have one in the Shangrila version with mechanical retacts and an Evolution 100. Just flys great and really slows down on landing with the big flaps. People just can't believe how stable it is in slow flight. I am looking for another one to do in electric. Let me know if someone has one NIB please. Even though I did not know them, Hazel Sig and Maxi Hester were HUGE in the success of Sig. Many in the old modeling community where everyone knew everyone said they were just great people!!!!! I called Sig just before they changed owners and asked bout ordering the P-51B ARF. The lady at Sig said they did not have any in stock and would probably not order any more because the Chinese manufacure of their kit was asking for more $$$. Get this for service, she gave me the PH # of 3 or 4 of their small hobby shops that she thought might have one still in stock. Bingo, scored my favorite ACFT! It was as couple of years back and the price was about $329.00. Bad news was the shipping was as I remember over a hun!!!! PS, the lady at Sig told me they would have to order kits and such by the thousands to get a reasonable pirce on them. Absolutly no small orders possible. Wallace Tharp

Luchnia, my view almost exactly. We are not suppose to get political, so I will not. It's a different world, WSJ today, China is buying out a huge Canadian oil & gas operation. We all like to sing the LHS song, but when It comes to shelling out the "long Green," another story. My 5S, 5000ma Turnigy Nano-Techs Lipos cost $78 at HK and TWR HOB's cheapest similasr is about $180. Go figer? What is a model airplane boy to do? I love Precision Aerobatics and I believe they are Australian. If you have not tried one of their planes, I love the Extra-260, you should! They are expenssive but they fly like a 6 foot wingspan model. No I do not work for them. Wallace Tharp

RE: Is China getting expensive?
Re, Deming and TQM, I remember two things that stood out to me having lived in Japan for 2 years in the USAF and later, 1994 teaching Aviation Technology at Japan Aviation Academy, Kofu, Japan. The first was that Honda built what I believe was the largest auomobile test facility under one roof in the world. The purpose was primarily to develop an engine that would pass the US smog rules for 1973. They came up with the CVCC engine. It easily passed all the requirements without the smog pumps, recirculation valves etc., etc. that GM attached to the 327 chevy engine. That engine could easily put out 300 hp before the horable replumbing which reduced it to about 170 hp if you were lucky. Last but not least, when the 750 Honda 4 came out I was riding a BSA cycle. It represented WWII Britt technology. MY 750cc Honda was like a freekin Ferrari!!!

RE: Is China getting expensive?
Gerry, saw that and in the local Phoenix paper they are expressing concern about how we prevent the PRC of gaing all of Beachcraft's military technology. The PRC is quite a ways behind us but they did their first joining up of a vehicle in orbit the past few months. Small by space shuttle and space stations standards. They fried one of their spent sattelites a year or two back just to show the world they coud do it. We have an unclassified B-747 airborn lazer gigantica project that can fry anything almost anywhere but we have already cancelled one of the two test aircraft. No doubt they are catching up but they have a long way to go. Interestingly here also, it is said, WSJ that the PRC commie leaders are planning to try to work things so there own people will be their primary consumers of their manufactered products. I guess they are thinking not many others will be able to afford it. My 2 cents. Wallace Tharp

RE: Is China getting expensive?
Well said Topspin, for anyone interested, a guy name of W. Edwards Deming set up a program that was many years later called "Total Quality Management." It was used with succes by Ford and the U. S. Government. The Japanese adopted it at the end of WWII and made a great success of implementing it. The system involved going to the assembly line floor and asking workers if there was a way to save a few minutes each day doing their jobs. It also involved numerical statisticss and most importantly, asking the last guy out the door how he liked the product and what would he change to make it a better product or buying experience. This was, Toyota, Honda, OS engines, Sato, Sony, etc. You want to make a good camera, you copy the best German camera of the day and make it cheaper and almost as good for a great price! OMG, what a concept. The Koreans are doing it right now. Look t their almost BMW cars on the high end. A guy my wife worked with in Alaska said in about 1990, "The price of gold is the price of gold, today and tomorrow, and for that matter in 1955. His example, there is very little difference in the cost of a Mercades in 1955 as there is now if you figure that cost in the current value of an oz. of gold. My 1967 Chevele SS, yes, 396 4spd cost $2860. My guess is now that car would be about 35 to 45 k in the form of the new Camaro. Oops, my example is almost double for the cost of the new Camaro, but many people and governments are now hoarding gold. You get the idea. Some big time economists say this a way of our government taxing us without us think we are being taxed. There is no inflation you know! Fixes; free markets, less government red tape, motivation for our kids study math & science.. Just my ideas. Wallace Tharp

My turn, great thread. I have a JR 9303 & love it. Very few problems using 6vlt NMHI or or 2 cel lipos for rx power. Range checking as per JR instructions is good. My friend, an electical engineer and a guy who helped develop the fly by wire and auto land systems for several aircraft had problems with his DSM . Being a widget with plenty of high end test gear Bill got right down to it. Figured out it was an antenna problem. Sent it to HH and they fixed it. End fo story. Good luck. RE: HOBBY king going down the tube?
Really sorry Taz, I flew on Alaska many times in my 16 years in FAirbanks, rode the jump probably a hundred times as an ATC specialist. I think AK Air pilots were and are among the best in the world. My very good friend retired from them a couple of years back. Marine C-130 pilot, salt of the earth. I admit the Chinese jack screw can not now be proven, but there is no doubt about the used transistors.,etc. by our builders of military equipment. They are salvaged from old computers and sold as new. There is video of them doing that somewhere. Sixty minutes or something like that. Sincerely, Wallace Tharp
