RE: Putting together a plan for a GTX...
are those know for decent performance? i dont know the first thing about exhaust efficiency in relation to two stroke engines. 4 stroke is a whole other story...I know plenty there lol

RE: Putting together a plan for a GTX...
I was thinking side exit exhaust more towards the rear :) I agree about the lack of adjustability. Has anyone ever taken the water cooling lines from an electric motor and wrapped them around an exhaust? Looking for ways to keep heat down in addition to venting...

RE: Putting together a plan for a GTX...
That build thread is amazing! lol Theres no way that boat should ever weigh 50 pounds IMHO. is it really worth it to go with a L and R setup? I more than likely wont be using clutches and i know for sure that i wont use electric starting either so that'll save some weight. What do you think about that drive/rudder setup? I really like it but i still like the WD drives a little more I think. One of the only really major things I dont like about that build is how he did the exhaust...other than that its pretty well thought out I think :)

RE: Putting together a plan for a GTX...
what is JBD? I keep hearing about it but I have never been on that site before. Im starting to gather funds for either this boat build or eventually a built shortblock for my Mustang....I dunno which one I want more right now lol I like the simplicity of the stinger type drivesbut they just look so out of place IMHO. I was thinking about the shaft durability too...what about a 1/4" piece of steel square stock? Provided I set it up with no arc in the shaft of course...
ORIGINAL: mistycreekboats
ORIGINAL: martno1fan Just a word to the wise concerning the RCMK drives, theyre unlikeley to handle the power of an inline has anyone actually used them ?,the guy who aquired the AMG apache hull from Adriano that i built removed them as he felt they were too delicate even for running two from one inline through a gearbox. If you want reliability id go with stingers and a central rudder, not as scale but less chance of failures, the more i read of this build the more im convinced its going to be a very expensive disapointment. You may think im been negative but id rather be honest instead of feeding you bs like some will (are). Mart
Right on Mart .......... I have had a set in my hands and I would not use them on a twin ... good quality just look fragile in some areas. These from Werner are quite a bit better http://wd200-modellbau.de/?Antriebe%2FDrives:Lenkbarer_Antrieb
where can i buy these in the states and how much?! those are pretty nice

I appreciate all of the advice for and against my ideas...thats why I joined this forum...to talk with informed folks. Its going to be two rcmk inlines though. If it doesnt work out I'll sell them and put two k30's in it. Its worth it to me to try something different. I will look in to alternative drives. I agree that the arnesons may be a little weaker but I hate the way stingers with a rudder look lol What are some decent stingers/rudders?

so were talkin fourteen and a half pounds for roughly twentyeight horsepower....so we could double that and still be at one horsepower per pound....even eight tenths of a horsepower per pound would make for a beffy power to weight ratio

ok then, what would be the ideal electronics setup then? servos, receiver, the works? (nice stuff that wont break the bank like the rest of this build is going to lol) What is your opinion on the rotation of the motors? One conter rotating from the other? Other than e-mailing mr. park where can I find the arneson drives at (preferably on an American site)? As far as I can tell my biggest expenditures are gonna be the motors and drives....everything else is pretty reasonable for a hobby I think :)

RE: Putting together a plan for a GTX...
im amazed at how much this thread took off. some really great info has been put out there in this thread. some of the advice that i really need is general beginner type stuff...like what brand and spec components to use for my electronics and how to build a proper stuffing tube and how to oil it and why its necessary. the scale build that was linked to is pure beauty...super clean and thought out. is it permisable to have servos outside of the sealed box like that though and what box was that. also...where can i find the fittings for a fuel tank that would be filled via hand crank pump...do i just use the fuel dots that i found on gizmo. i am also starting to think about paint schemes...i think i want to do a ford mustang boss type theme...maybe dark metallic blue with white and flat black accents would look really sharp on a gtx hull. my other hobby is mustangs and i would use the same ford true blue paint code that my car is. i could also use some good links to learn how to glass in stringers and whatnot as i have very little experience with fiberglass. im really getting excited about this...now all i have to do is save the cash haha thanks again everyone and keep the suggestions coming. oh before i forget...that youtube link above....was that boat using two twins....if so im totally sold on four cylinders...it sounded amazing and had power to spare...he never really had it wound out by the sounds of it haha

RE: Putting together a plan for a GTX...
i keep hearing about weight and all...what does one of these motors actually weigh......thank you all for the insight...i dont know when this build will start i am just trying to get a rough idea of where i need to be financially.....roughly twenty eight horsepower should have no problem at all pushing this beast through the fifties in my eyes.....itll be almost one hundred twenty cc....i have ridden mini bikes with less that hauled my big backside anywhere i wanted to go with no problem haha i would thin setup properly it should be a monster. it was suggested that i go bigger on the servos....any suggestions on that. is there anything else that you guys see as glaringly wrong. sorry for the poor grammar and punctuation...my phone and this forum dont get along for some reason...any punctuation other than periods dont work and my number characters wont work lol

Putting together a plan for a GTX...
Ok, so Im starting to put together a list of major items that I will need in order to build a quality, fast, GTX :) I need some insight and suggestions on the following items that I found on gizmotors.com: Electronics: volt watch II onboard receiver battery monitor Futaba s3050 digital servo 90 oz/in. @6v. (either 2 or 3 depending on how I do the throttle linkage) Through box seal kit (3 or 4) Futaba switch harness 400mm Futaba antenna Aluminum servo tray (2 or 3 depending again on throttle linkage) Futaba futl7630 603fs receiver Futaba 3pmx computer radio Venom racing 5 cell 6v 1600 MAH Venom fail safe Double end 4-40 variety pack linkage rods (2) Aeromarine #13 radio box Drivetrain: 2 RCMK k-600 motors (gonna be a tonnn of power!!!! :) ) 2 diaphragm water pumps 4 through the hull water dumps 2 through the hull water pickups 2 square 1/4" flex shafts (dont know length yet) 2 1/4" square drive collets 2 GMM racing drive dogs 2 RCMK Arneson drives (I think thats the right name for them? The steerable drives that were on another GTX build on the forum) T bar 2 brass tubes Hull: Expresscraft GTX 65" Things I definitely need help with: Motor mounts (2 k-600's in a GTX hull is gonna take some ingenuity) exhaust tips exhaust ( wont really know until I have everything in front of me) cowl locks plexiglass for the radio box cover other than bell cranks and little odds and ends do I have a pretty complete list and will everything above work well with one another. I know someone is gonna pipe in about the RCMK's and reliability and too much power but lets save that for another thread ok? Any help you guys could offer would be great! Its this forum that got me this far in my thought process!! lol edit: if I decided to go with clutches what brand can handle the power? Has anyone ever done a side hull exhaust?

RE: Rcmk Motor questions
so roughly twenty horsepower in a thirty pound....and thats really stretching it.....boat would be slower than a twenty pound boat with say ten horsepower...somehow that doesnt make sense to me...it seems to me that two twins would make for a rocket if you could keep it straight....

RE: Rcmk Motor questions
you could do two one cylinder rcmks with two outdrives and then upgrade the 520's later? That way you will already have two holes poked in the hull rather than one center hole for a single or gearboxed double
