50" span F-84-F by Lynn McCauley
I just aquired a kit of a F-84-F Thunderstreak by Lynn McCauley. It has a 50" span and is 65" long. The plans show a DF installation. I'm looking to put in a P-60 or EDF in it. Does anybody have any information about this kit? Thanks.

RE: The new Tornado sport jet
ORIGINAL: maydog75 Personally I think of it as the ''nitro planes'' of turbines, and no I'm not talking about kit moding like the falcon. It's a $500 turbine airframe. Seems like a lot of money but realistically in the turbine world it's a just the price of a bifurcated pipe or some wheels. Of course there is going to be issues with building it but I still think its cool to have a company trying to get people into the turbine world cheaply. Thus far Henry has been great imo on this thread about helping and customer service. Maybe some people should pay a few mortgage payments to BVM then try to get some customer service, keep holding your breath. I did.
I'm very happy with my V2 Tornado. The only complaint would be with the stock canopy. A Nor-Ray replacement canopy sure fixed that. I have a JetCat P-60 and it's a perfect match for the airframe.

Rich, It must be nice that your design's are much in demand, but upsetting to you and your customers that you can not supply the parts the modelers need to get their birds in the air. I have 2 flights on my 81" OV-10 arf and I am really happy with the model. It sure looks cool in the air. I hope you are sucessful in your search for a new supplier, so more of these fine models can grace the skies. Wayne

Chad, If you need some close up pics. of the FM-2 gear, I can take some of our FM-2 Wildcat and send them to you on a disc. If that would help. Wayne
ORIGINAL: Chad Veich
ORIGINAL: wphilb May I recommend that whatever size you decide to make it, the 80'' ws size or larger opens the plane up to IMAA events. It would also be good to see what size the cowl works out to be based on either a G-62 or some of the 50 cc choices like DA, ZDZ or DLE. Again depending on size. You don't want to come up with a great plane and gear and find it tough to squeeze an engine into it. I admit though with all the choices today that's less of an issue than it once was. Whit
I am not locked into any particular wing span myself. Ideal size for me when it comes to single engine fighter types is generally around 72-76 inches but I would go bigger if necessary. Heck, I would build the 89 inch Jerry Bates design if I could get my hands on a set of the Robart or Sierra retracts for it. Not really interested in going any bigger than that however, at least not at this time. I am not an IMAA member and have never attended one of their events so the 80 inch minimum rule means nothing to me. I understand the wisdom of going at least 80 inches span with the design if the plans/kits were to be marketed though. Truth is I will be at the mercy of whomever is making the retracts if, in fact, anybody wth the capabilities is interested enough in the project to pursue that end of it.
I overheard Steve Hinton last year say that it could be done in a month if they concentrated their resources on it. Makes me wonder why they put so much money and effort into the static Judy when they could have had the P-59 up and flying. Oh well, maybe next year.
Chad, I talked to Ed Maloney on Friday before the show and asked him when the P-59 would be ready. He said the big hold up was finding a fuel sponser to be able to fly the aircraft. As to Steven circling the airport in the Yak on the same Friday, we had changed some of the coolant hoses. Steven had not flown the Yak since last years show and he wanted to be sure the coolant system was leak free before he went off to play. His grin when he landed was proof that he was having a great time getting used to the Yak again.

Gaines, That is a neat installation for your batteries. I was under the impression that it took about 2 lbs. in the nose to balance the OV-10. I was planning on using the batteries in the nose instead of adding lead to balance. It look's like your batteries are on the C/G or very close. Are your batteries tied together, or does each motor have it's own batteries seprately? Wayne

RE: OV-10 Bronco 81
Gaines, Thanks for the info. So as I understand the info, with the master airscrew 14/9 3 blade, you are pulling 47 amps, 1482 watts at 8700rpm and 8 cells. Is that correct? What would be your guesstimate for the speed at full throttle? Did you feel that you had enough power with your set up? I too want to run the 3 blade props. Where did you get the spinners? Wayne
I'm a novice on electric flight so I spent a lot of time researching, asking questions, and then testing my power systems. But I am sure more experienced electric power guys could have done a lot better. Here is what I have and how it performed during my tests. The measured thrust was running both motors hooked up to a digital fish scale. The calculated and measured thrust is for one motor. The combined is for both motors. The trick is to pick the best prop for both thrust and speed. I have a 15 x 10 2 blade coming that may be the best of all tested but I really like the scale 3 blade look so may stay with the 14 x 9 3 blade.
What is your amp draw and what size prop's you are using? Thanks, Wayne
ORIGINAL: gsmith6879 Well, another Uravitch Bronco has flown. The maiden on the new Bronco is done! There were no surprises. The Bronco flew just like all Uravitch Broncos. Plenty of power and speed out of the power systems and after about 5 minutes of 2/3 throttle flight and very good 1/2 flap landing, the batteries still had 4.0 volts per cell. The electric guys at the field said I probably had at least enough battery left for another 5 minutes+. The trim was about dead on. I needed 1 click of right aileron and one click of down elevator to fly hands off. I had one issue with the canopy fogging up due to all of the rain we had this week. I had vented the canopy but it still steamed up when the sun hit all of that plastic surface. That problem will go away with dryer air.
Our Tornado came out at !7lbs dry with the UAT full. We balanced it at the 12.75" dim. listed in the manual. We double checked the nose gear weight and it was 1.8lbs. Had we used the 1.5 lbs, we would have been tail heavy. The 1.5 lbs will only be accurate if you have the same emty weight as the Modelbau listed emty weight. At 12.75" the balance is perfect on our Tornado.

RE: The new Tornado sport jet
Here is some feedback on our New Tornado version 3. I ordered one in June from Henry with the red/white color. It arrived the first week of August. This is a joint project with one of my flying buddies. I had a new JetCat P60SE that was gathering dust, so this just looked to be the right fit. We wanted to have it done for the annual Woodland-Davis Jet Fly this weekend in Oct. We split the work up, Donnie took the wings and booms and I tackled the fuse. Donnie found that the gear blocks were balsa, so we replaced those with hardwood. The model went together pretty quickly and we had the Tornado ready to test fly on this last Friday. After 13 flights this weekend, you can't get the grin's off our faces. What a cool jet to fly!! We had a ball flying it. My Facet only got in the air twice! We would fuel the Tornado and go. We were answering questions all weekend about the model. Even the Falcon 120 owners were very interested in the Tornado and asked a lot of questions. The JetCat P60SE was a perfect match for the Tornado. What an awesome combo!!! The canopy somehow cracked on the 11th flight. We taped it up and kept flying. I had already bought a replacement canopy from the guy that was mentioned on this thread. All in All, it's a great jet value! Yes, there were a few things to address in the build, but, for the price, it's outstanding!!! The flight capabilities are awesome!!! We can't wait to fly it again.
