RE: Warbirds Over Livermore 2012!
Thanks again to Ed and the Club. Not many clubs that are more interested in having fun than making money my hat is off to them. One thing that was really cool for me was a family that had an older retired man with them that showed up later in the day. Turned out to be there Dad and he told me stories of WWII when he was on an aircraft carrier that shuttled planes out to the Pacific. He stayed on the Carrier till the end of the war in 1944. Good guy to talk to wish I could of talked him more.

Ed had a great time, Weather was great and you have a exceptional club. I look forward to next year. If you you didn't go you missed a good one. The only down side was when Jim lost his 1/3rd scale BUSA d.vii do to radio loss. Good thing he has another one framed up.

RE: US Scale Masters Results 2012
My suggestion is to email our National Chairman "Bernie Boland" and or either the Vice West or East Chairman your Pros or Cons to this new scoring system. It is the best to let them know your thoughts on this. I feel that feedback would be appreciated and needed so they can see what is important.

RE: US Scale Masters Results 2012
ORIGINAL: abufletcher How rare is it for someone to get a perfect 1000 on static score? Also, are there any photos of this perfect scale model? Or even just an indication of which aircraft it was?
This year was the first year that they scored on a curve. Scott is correct, In static the person who recieved the highest score gets perfect. Then from that point on it is reduced by percentage. In other words if second highest static was 2% lower than 1st then his score is reduced 2% from 1000. In flight same thing. Who ever had the highest flight score for that round gets 1000 and then by percentage it drops from there. IMAC has been doing this for years for flight scoring and is supposed to help even the playing field. You can still see your raw scores just like before. I have not seen both scores to see if it made a difference in final placement. I do have friends that compete in IMAC and they all feel it is a better way of scoring. Hope this helps.

RE: Meister Japanese Zero build thread
ORIGINAL: ram3500-RCU
ORIGINAL: wayne d Here are a few shots to ponder. These are all of tail number X-133
Thanks Wayne. Here is a challenge as respects the gear. The last picture shows the gear going up. I know this because in that cycle, the port gear is almost all the way up before the starboard gear starts, as we see in the picture. But, when coming down, they both work virtually simultaneously. I'm going to look into why this would be the case.
Gary my guess is the gear are on the same port. think of it that the ram on both sides are Y'd to the same line or port. Figure one side has less drag than the other so untill the one side starts to bottom out doesn't build up enough pressure to start the other side. When going down you have gravity to help them both come down more or less at the same rate. Just a guess of course.

RE: Robart Landing Gear Fail Safe System?
ORIGINAL: splais Is anyone using this device and can comment on how it has worked out. any +'s or -''s. Thanks.
Hello I have 3 of them. Not under the Robart name but by Tamjets.com who makes them for Robart I think. They do have a couple of functions that are cool. One being when you set it up it knows what postion the gear are from the transmitter. So when you turn on the transmitter and your gear switch is in the retracted position by accident and you then turn on the reciever the gear will stay down till you cycle the switch. Nice feature so that your plane doesnt fall onto its belly on the ground by a dumb mistake. Secondly you can program what ever your minum air pressure you want for the gear to go into failsafe. It was mentioned already at 50# and that is a good number. Now most of us don't have any problems but all it takes is one time and your happy that you had it. Over the years I have had it work twice for me. Once when a airline over time rubbed a hole in it, just flying a long and all of a sudden the gear came down when I figured out what had happened I was really glad I had it. Another time it was a air tank that came loose over time and rubbed a hole in it. Though the units has only kicked in twice for me I was very thankfull I had them since it saved me a bunch of repair time from a belly landing on asphault. They are easy to set up and well worth the money to me.

RE: Top Flight GS P51 cowl needed
I can tell you what I did on mine. Mounted the engine, took the backplate from the spinner and CA'd 4 small blocks of 1/16" balsa to the back of the backplate, then CA'd it to the cowl centered perfectly, then slid the cowl onto the fuse bolting the spinner onto the engine, now the cowl is lined up perfect with the engine, I then epoxied and screwed the cowl in place on the fuse all the way around, after the epoxy was cured I removed all the screws and filled in the holes. of course you now have the lip of the cowl where it meets the fuse, I then CA'd 1/16" soft balsa from the edge of the lip back about 5" all the way around the fuse, then I sanded the balsa feathering it flush with the cowl and blending it flush to the fuse as I sanded it back. After it was all smooth and even I then cut the cowl making a chin that is removeable following the scale lines from a 3 view, with the chin removed I unbolted the engine and installed all the necc 1/8" 5 ply to the cowl so that I could mount the chin with flush screws which ended up looking like zeus fastners. Then just glassing the fuse like normal, came out very nice with a smooth transition from the canopy to the spinner with no ugly bolt on cowl. The cuts on the cowl went forward right about in the middle of the spinner so when the chin was removed it was easy to get to the engine. Hope this helps or gives you an idea.

RE: Lets see your WW1 Fokker's
ORIGINAL: jeffEE That's interesting. I know that the B.USA DVII is not true scale, so no hurt feelings here. But you mention that the AZ wings are more scale. In what way? Rib shape or spacing, or something like that? I might have to get an AZ DVII now to compare the two. A cool project perhaps. [:)]
Biggest thing the wing on a BUSA is flat bottom. AZ has the correct under camber (not sure if that is the correct term) also the D-Tube sheeting is cut correct with the angle cuts in the sheeting. The sheeting is not such the big thing since once covered is not as noticeable unless you look for it. If you look at a set of scale plans or drawings it becomes very apparent. Again for most of us the BUSA can be made into a very nice model main reason I built the AZ was that I fell into a great deal.

RE: Lets see your WW1 Fokker's
ORIGINAL: jeffEE So what would you say is different between the Balsa USA and the AZ DVIIs? They both look great.
I would say the AZ Models is more scale. Wings are certainly so. Also the wing incedence is correct where BUSA is not. A/M tail is also more scale overall. Cockpit area is more correct also. The BUSA d.vii in the picture has been modified greatly by Michael there is a build thread that goes into great detail of all what has been done to make it what it is. They are both great kits the A/M is definatley more work. I can say that the A/M flys extremely well and after about 3 flights have got the landings down and feel more confident. Mind you the BUSA is a great kit and can be made to look very nice with a bit of work and thought.
