RE: Cessna 310 Plans Found on EBAY??????
At 88 inches you will want to make all of the fuselage formers from ply. 1/8 balsa will be too flexable, unless you get some very hard stock. At that size you may want to use fitted sheets rather than strips on the fuselage top. I am building without landing gear so this version will be very simple. I need to buy my motors befor I can finish the nacels and cowls. As I get farther along I will post some more pictures.

RE: Cessna 310 Plans Found on EBAY??????
I thought I would update you fellows on my 310 build. I am building from the plans at 1 to 1, this yealds a wingspan of 36 inches without the tips, 38" with. So far I have framed and shaped the fuselage and cut out the fin/rudder. The wings will be built next. I am using pink foam rather than Balsa blocks and sheeted with 3/32 stock rather than 1/8 th on the fuselage top. The only other departure from the plans is that I skeletonized the formers rather than using solid ones per plan. This plane was desined as a U-kie for 2 .15's and weight was not a concideration when she was drawn. I plan on E-power so I need to keep the weight down. At 26 inches long the fuselage should weigh less than a pound when complete.

RE: MosquitoBite "Robin" build
Actually it's called International Orange. Coast Guard orange is actually called Coast Guard Red. go figure! White is the color with the best all around visibility. I did a Sig Kadet in all white with orange on the wings from the tip in about 6 inches. I put the orange on the upper surface only so I could tell if the plane was turning toward me or away. I too have problems with orientation and that seemed to work for me. Bright orange works just fine. Day glo fades for some reason. In a season or two it will look like hell.

RE: MosquitoBite "Robin" build
Ron, I need to finish the paint and it has been too cold for dope. I will work on it this summer between cutting wood, installing new differentials on my 4X4, and restoring my MGB. Oh, I forgot. Mowing the yard (5 acres this year). Right now I have three planes on the board. I am finishing a P-47 for a fellow back east. It is at the glassing stage. I have an antique Pilot Fighter Forty in tbe bones, and I am scratch building a Cessna 310 B for twin electric power. Mama won't let me dope in the house so that will have to wait untill it warms up. Epoxy is OK so that is what I'm doing now.

RE: MosquitoBite "Robin" build
Boy Ron, you must have a tail wind because you are making great time. I told you this bird would go together fast. How long do you think it took you to get this far on the wing. I know there is a lot more to do to finish it, but It does go fast , No?

RE: CAP 10 v CAP 21
It looks to me that you could mate the wing from a CAP 10 to the Cap 21 fuselage and call it a CAP 20. The Cap 20 wing looks to be that of the CAP 10. The tips are squared up, but I seem to have seen CAP 10's with the square tips. There are several plans for CAP 10's out there. I'm sure you will find what you are looking for. They might need to be scaled one way or another, but That should be easy. Remember that the Cap 10 was a 2 place aerobatic trainer rather than a full house competition ship.

RE: Ikon Nwst
obo, That's good news. I am glad to hear that you got your kit and are happy with the quality. That will help a lot of guys make a decision when thinking of buying one of Ikon's kits. I myself have been looking at several of his offerings and your experience has helped me make up my mind about ordering. With some of the folks lurking out there it is nice to know that stuff actually gets delivered. I knew that the new owener was busy with other things and that it might take a while to get the bussiness fired up again after the death of the previous owner. I also know how frustrating it is to wait for a new kit to arrive. It happens to all of us. One of my pals ordered a new kit, had a trace number and everything. He followed all the way across the contry, only to have it "LOST" by the parcel company one hundred and sixty miles from his home. Have fun and keep us up to date on your build.

RE: OS inline 4 stroke
Boy, this would be the perfect engine for a large (1/4 or 1/3) scale Pietnpol air camper. I know the originals had Model T and Model A Fords, but some later versions used later OHV engines. You would have to use the radiator as coolling duct, but that would be the same if you used it for a WW 1 Fokker or Pflaf. $2500 puts it out of my reach unless my invesments in Lotto tickets pays off. Of course, if that happens, it would look like a great deal. Id buy at least two and build a Giant DH Rapide Dragon.

RE: MosquitoBite "Robin" build
Ron, Can you turn the carb around? It looks like the throttle hookup might be tough with the muffler sited like it is. It will be interesting to see the engine mounting sequence. Not a lot of room to install the moter bolts. Looks good though, are you going to break it in on a plane or on the bench?

RE: MosquitoBite "Robin" build
Well, Ron, at least they come to your house. In the winter I have to go into town and pick up my UPS packages at the Texico stataion. They won't come up my driveway. FedEx has four wheel drive trucks for their winter deliveries and they just drive right up to the door. Alas, UPS only has the two wheel drive trucks. I never use the tracker untill they are late. It would drive me crazy to watch the package crawl the last 100 miles or so. Tomorrow will be a better day, I hope.

RE: MosquitoBite "Robin" build
Charlie, Yup, as soon as the kit shows up we have to shut up except for a few oohs and ahhs. Ron was worried that someone would hijack his thread and I promised to help him out if anyone tried. I never guessed it would be ME! I have looked at the assembly manual Ron sent and this looks like a fun build. If you have built one of MosquitoBite's other offerings it will look very familier. Lots of interlocking parts. It looks like about twenty parts to build the cabin. I'm sure there are not that many, but it looks like it. The cowl is very interesting, but I'll let Ron show us that.

RE: MosquitoBite "Robin" build
Wow, Only 166 miles. What's that? Three days to the North country? Don't they have to fly it to Butte Montana and then truck it south? Charlie, You gotta love a dog that will defend you against a truck. My problem is that I can't train Buck to lure the varments down into shotgun range. He chases them up into the trees and I can't get a shot at them. We have a real cougar problem around here and I'm afraid he will try one alone. That's the last we will see of him. He has always had a running buddy but she is comming into heat and we can't let her run. One dog on a cougar is not enough. So we get to see the Kit in the next couple of days. Make sure you shoot a few pictures of the parts before you break out the glue bottle. We are waiting!!!

RE: MosquitoBite "Robin" build
Well Heck, until Ron's kit arrives we can share dog stories. Charlie, you bring back fond memories of my childhood. We had a Kerry Blue when I was a little kid. She was found by the tracks that ran thru our town and no one claimed her. She had been abused by someone in uniform and hated anyone who wore one. Cops, mailmen, anyone in uniform. The funny part of the story is that my dad was an Army major and the dog went bursurk if she saw him in his Army suit. It took a while for them to be friends! She was a great watch dog and pitty the fool that tried to get past her to get us. I don't have an Airdale, in fact none of our dogs can fly. My wife raises German Shepards for service and therapy dogs. For security we have a Husky- Akita-wolf mix. He has cleaned out the neighborhood of all the cayotes and most of the Cougers here a bouts. I swear that if we had not had him fixed all the cayotes in this end of the county would look just like him.

foxyone, They have a new web site @ www.ikonnwst.com Their Ph. Number is 1 800 717 4508. E-mail admin@ikonnwst.com Hope that helps. Last I heard they were updating some of the more popular kits. They were pretty busy with a government contract for some UAV's and that was taking up a lot of their time. That was some time ago, so they may be able to spend time on the kit work.

RE: MosquitoBite "Robin" build
Charlie, I think it depends more on how many times the truck driver has to stop for fuel and potty breaks. I can't see any reason for a UPS plane to stop in Hodgkins, IL. Besides, I thought this was a kit, not an ARF. Buy the way, I asked my dog how he thought an ARF would fly and he said "RUFF" When I asked him where it would land he replied "ROOF". He should know, he's an Airdale.

RE: Cub Color Schemes
Back around 1970 I helped our local A&P do a main spar repair on a J-3. It was painted white with metalic green checkerboard on the nose and vertical stab. If I remember correctly the squares were about 3x3 inches. They covered the nose back to the windshield. The N numbers and the leading edges of the wings were also in the bright green metalic. It really looked better than it sounds. As far as I know, there is no law that says a Cub must be yellow, OD or sunburst blue. Do what works for you.

RE: MosquitoBite "Robin" build
Charlie P. You are conversing with the original Cheap SOB. The last model kit I bought was a Loose Collection of Balsa I scored from E-Bay for 15 bucks. It turned out to be a compleat Pilot Fighter 400. I wish I could afford something like the Robin or some of the other even more expensive kits. Untill those Lottery tickets start paying off I will have to enjoy other peoples builds. Great landing , by the way. I'm sure you know the difference between a good landing and a great one. The good one you can walk away. The great landing lets you use the airplane again that same day. Ron, That build is getting even more interesting. Leading edge cuffs, Freize Aileron, and slotted flaps, wow. Please be sure to detail the construction methods used to build these features. I like to borrow all the hints on this type of stuff I can find. It is rare that you see all of these features on the same model.

RE: looking for Bud Nosen 1/4 scale Citabria plans/kit
Those come up on E-Bay from time to time. You can search under Bud Nosen. Of course you will be competing against the collectors and speculators so be prepaired to write a big check. You might get lucky on the plans as there is not as much interest among the non R/C crowd for plans. If you see that you are bidding againt someone who has 300 or more "wins" you know that you are dealing with a speculator or a reseller. Make you best and higest bid and see what happens. I set a reasonable value let the idiots bid as they will. Some of them go nuts and pay way too much. I hope they choke when they try to get their "Investment"back. Good luck.

That's the same one. The boys took over from the dad. A great place to browse and buy. The place is literally stuffed with modelling goodies. These guys are modelers and fly everything you can think of. Most times when you go in one of the boys is building something on the counter. Not too many second generation hobby shops around these days.

RE: MosquitoBite "Robin" build
Ron, If the Robin builds as quickly as the T-Rex and the Tri-Pacer you will be flying in no time. From all I have heard the Rbin has a very wide speed range. Short take off and "walking speed" landings. I really want to see how she goes togeher, what with a stressed skin fuselage and all. I will look forward to upyr build.

RE: I have officially started
alienx. I use a sheet of Dow pink insulation foam. 1 X 24 x 8 feet. 8.00 bucks at HD. It will take and hold pins if you are not to rough on it. It is not as good as the balsa boards but I have built a lot of planes over it. It can be cut to make wing and fuslage holders and lots of parts can be carved and sanded from it. I also use the 2 inch thick stuff to make larger parts. Someday I am going to build a whole airplane from the stuff.

RE: Small Spinners?
Brian, I looked into the prop nut solution. Dubro maks some the right size but unless I need the added weight for balance they are overkill. You will not believe what happened today. We went in to Spokane to buy out a Home Depot, so I stopped by my LHS. Bingo, 1 inch plastic spinners for electric applications. The owner said they came from Hobby Lobby (who knew?). I almost chocked on the price, $ 5.49 each for a gram of cast plastic. Well, anyway, that problem is solved. Thanks to all who helped with this. I now have 2 of the hundred or so parts for this plane, heck it is starting to come together. One more thing. One of the great things about building a house for ones wife is that if you buy a lot of stuff at H.D. to finish the guest bathroom, she pays the toll and never questions why you need a new Ryobi scroll saw for the job. Let the balsa dust fly. HAHAHAHAHAHA

RE: Small Spinners?
Dave, You are so right. I use Tru-turn on my big stuff and the weight is definatley a concern on this small bird. The smallest spinners I found were for E-flight applications and even those were dependant on shaft size. Thanks for the tip on Hobby Lobby, I wiil order their catalog.

Jeez, I was afraid that would be the answer. I was hoping for some new old stock. I know they were available years ago but have not been able to score any. Would you have any idea what they charge for a custom size? My funds for this plane are limited and I would hate to break the bank on the spinners and not be able to afford the motors.

RE: MosquitoBite Planes ROBIN
I was the guy that built the Tri-Pacer here a couple of years ago. Let me say that I had a great time building that kit. I got one of the original MK ! units. It did not have the aileron servo modification of later kits. It was the balsa version. Not the later version with more ply parts. The kit framed up quickly and all of the parts fit perfectly. My kit was short one of the ply ribs for the center section. I emailed Mosquito bite and they called me that same day. I explained the problem and they air mailed me TWO ribs so I would have a matched pair. The instruction booklet was top drawer. I had a question about the nose steering and again one e-mail brougt the answer. Several builders had some questions about the cowl and I understand that the new version of that plane will have a fiberglass version. They seem to listen when we speak. In all over 600 of the Tripacer kits were produced and I have only heard a handfull of complaints. I can't speak to the Robin as I have not built it. But as far as the company goes I have only good things to say about them. If you have questions about the kit I would suggest that you E-mail Mosquitobite and ask them. PS. I don't work for them, although I would love to. They seem like nice folks.
