RE: LETS SAVE SIG BEFORE THEY GET SWALLOWED BY THE BIG TWO!!!
Had the pleasure to attend the Sig event in Montezuma IA last month, what a great event. Got to meet and talk to one of the new owners, Andrea Martin, who is the daughter of Mr. Kavan. I think that Sig is in good hands, we just need to support them. Also got to meet Hazel Sig, quite a lady!!! The flying was great, the food excellent. If you ever get a chance to attend be sure to do it. The flying site was the Sig airport and it is great, the runway is better than most fairways, smooth and flat. Jack

RE: AMA Adninistrative Changes ???

RE: [b]AMA Dues Increase[b/]
Charley; Robbie Allen bought 2nd Chance Hobbies and put it in with his rc car shop over on Nacadoches. He has the displays and inventory set up and has as many used planes for sale as Jim used to have. Jim is helping him as much as possible. Several of the guys that worked with Jim are working for Robbie. Jim and I have got a shop in the back of Linda's travel agency so that we can build/repair for folks. Upgrade! Sounds like work! Jack

RE: [b]AMA Dues Increase[b/]
ORIGINAL: Silent-AV8R The funny thing is that this whole thread is about a dues increase that happened nearly a decade ago. There is no pending dues increase to the best of my knowledge. This really is proof that there is a small group of people who will literally complain about anything related to the AMA. People are certainly free to raise questions and discuss things the AMA does and has done. But when it is the same 6 to 8 people raising the same questions endlessly it passes the point of useful discussion.
+1

RE: [b]AMA Dues Increase[b/]
Have you wondered why Rich Hansen is willing to give up his currently salaried position to become a currently unpaid position? Do you wonder why Jim Rice and Bob Brown want to give up being a DVP to be Pres.? MORE work and less time to play. Jim is a retired Army Colonel but does that satisfy his living style especially since his Hobby Shop has become extinct? OK so now you have some History 101, some items that seem to me to be plausible, and a number of questions laying on your table of dues increases. Folks, as Franklin Roosevelt said about politics, ''Whatever happens in politics is not by chance, you can bet that it was planned.'' It's going to be a very interesting 2012. [:D]
Horrace; Who told you that Jim's hobby shop is "extinct"? He no longer owns it because he sold it in April. 2nd Chance Hobbies is alive and well in San Antonio Tx. Rich Hansen and Jim Rice are not looking to the AMA to "satisfy their life style". That sir is pure Hogwash!!!! I do wonder why you continue to be a member of the AMA when it is run so bad and you cannot get control of it? You ought to do some research before you say negative things about people. But that is not your way. Jack Matlock L976

RE: How will the Candidates really Govern???
I doubt that any will respond here. I would suggest that you go to the web sites, jimriceforamapresident.com and amaelection.com. I know that you can ask Jim Rice a question on his site and he will answer you. I am sure that Bob Brown would also answer. Jack Matlock L976

RE: Change within the AMA - what would you do different and why?
ORIGINAL: AmishWarlord I'd like to change where you join the AMA and it's only good for the rest of that year. A new guy pays $58 to join AMA in September, after scratching up $58 in this economy. Then in October gets AMA letter stating that it's time to pay another $58 to renew for next year. I know buried deep in the bylaws it says you only have to pay a pro-rated renewal fee. That letter you get from the AMA says nothing about a pro-rated fee. It says pay $58 now! If a new member pays $58 on 9-7-11 his AMA should run through 9-6-12. The IMAA does it that way why can't the AMA?
If he joins between 9/15/11 to 3/31/12, his membership is good to the end of Dec 2012. If he joins between 1 April and 9/14 then it will be prorated accordingly. This from an AMA DVP just a few minutes ago. And if an error has been made about the renewal amount just let AMA know and it will be corrected. I do not know why the renewal is not for a year from the date of inception but I am sure your DVP or someone at the AMA can explain it. I have been a member since before you know who was a corporal and it seems that it has always been that way. Never gave it much thought. Maybe if enough people were to bring this up to the EC it could be changed? Jack

RE: San Antonio field?
ORIGINAL: M3S6 Thanks. Do you know which is a better field?
Kingsbury is the nicer of the two but I have been flying at River City since we opened it in 1984 (it is only 10 minutes from home). River City is by a flood control lake so we can float fly as well. Go here http://www.tricityflyers.com/index.php to see about Kingsbury. Jack

RE: San Antonio field?
ORIGINAL: M3S6 Hi I am moving to San Antonio, TXÂ in a week or so and need some place to fly. I have both electrics and giant scale. Any Texans out there that can recommend a field?? Thanks!
Check with the guys at 2nd Chance Hobbies in Universal City (just outside of Randolph AFB) they have all of the info on all of the clubs in the SA area. Most of the giant scale guys fly at River City and Kingsbury. River City is about 30 minutes from your area, Kingsbury is at least an hour, but a great place to fly. Electric stuff is all over town and indoor electric is on Wednesday nights at the Catholic church in Selma. Many great modlers and places to fly here in SA. Jack

RE: AMA District X Special Election
District X is comprised of Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, and Utah. It is the single largest District both in geographical area, but also by AMA members. Not surprisingly California is the most populous state in the District.
Might want to reconsider that District X is the largest in geographical area, I do not think so. If you check the geographical area of District X verses District VIII or District XI and I would think that there are many more square miles in District XI than any other. I could be wrong, it has been a lot of years since I was in a social studies class!! Not trying to start anything here guys, we are all members of the AMA and who has the biggy District really does not matter. Jack Matlock L-976
