I stopped using RCU because of the problems mentioned above and the negative comments that you receive in posts by some users. It's just not "fun" to post here anymore. Also, I am spending more time looking at the events posted on RCG. -Andrew

RE: FSA Clubhouse
An update on Todd, As my surgery went south, things just really changed for us. I'm not even allowed to leave San Antonio or Brooke Army Medical Center. Aprel and Bri will be flown back to get Aprel's car and to load up our 6x12 enclosed trailer with as much stuff we'll need in the next year or so and a few planes. Even though I thought I'd be on my way back to Benning today, I am now permantly assigned to Brooke Army Medical Center or Sam Houston Army Medical Center (changing the name). As we met so many caring and concerned people and new friends at SEFF, I wanted to get an update out to everyone I could. Our new address and contact data is: MSG Todd Landen Fisher House 4, RM 411 3623 George C. I know this is an old tread. I do have a question though. I want to up grade my Clod with a new ESC as well. Is there a good ESC that I can run both motores with? I am not looking to run two batteries. I'm not looking for a lot of speed or long run times. ( my son does not need all that yet) I just want to up grade from the old mech esc. Can anyone recomend the right servo for the steering? I am guessing high tork. Metal gears? This is a very old and very stock Clod Buster. Thanks for the help, -Andrew

RE: Where do you like to fly?
It all depends on the day. Some days I love to be out at the club field. It is a blast hanging out with the guys. Seeing all the different type planes they bring. Whether an ARF or a kit build. It is just nice to see all the typs of planes that people like. Then there are those days when I like to get in a quick flight or two or three by my self. I will grab a smaller plane and head out to the school field or church lot for a few quick laps of fun. Some times I will get a few kids come over and watch. You know the normal questions that goes along with it. Then there are the days that I live for. The big events. I love to pack up the shop grab a bunch of planes, hook up my camper and head out for a few days of fun. Getting to see friends from last years event and catching up on all that has been going on. Watching the compition events and demos, seeing the vendors and what's new. Just a lot of fun. But my most favoret time to fly, no matter where. Small field, big event or club field. I love night flying. Flying in the dark is a blast. It is normally very quiet and no wind. Pulling out one of my night flyers and putting it up in the dark sky. It is like my therapy. It is so relaxing. Plus it is a lot of fun showing off my night flyer creations. So basicly I like to fly. It does not matter where, just as long as I can get in some stick time. -Andrew

RE: best way to train new pilots
My son is 9. He will turn 10 this summer. I started him out on a PZ Champ in our back yard. (No BB) I then took him and his Champ to the club field. (Gave him the feel of more space) I have moved up to buddy boxing him with my .40 size trainer (glow) and Four Star Forty (electric). He likes the electrics better for some reason. In the spring I will put him on an electric .40 size Cub. teach him more rudder input. I think he needs to understand the basics of aerodynamics a little better. If people are coming to the field with the PZ electric type planes. Thats fine, teach them how to fly the plane that they have. BUT make sure they know the bigger .40 size plane is something that they are not ready for yet. Encourage them to come back and ask for help when / if they ever make the jump to a bigger plane. The last thing anyone wants is a guy going from a small PZ T-28 to a .90 size AT-6. Just my thoughts, -Andrew

RE: Have You Flown an RC Model Under the Influence of Alcohol?
I was attending a weekend event. A few of us had a couple of cold ones when the sun went down. After a can or three I thought it would be a good time to take my night flyer up for a quick flight. Well, I taxied out onto the run way and realized that I was haviing a hard time with the LED's. I decided right there that this was a BAD idea. I did not even taxi back in. I went out and got it. -Andrew

RE: FSA Clubhouse
I have had a few people ask me about the MEDS electric event for 2012. So I guess I should give an update of what is going on. I will not be holding the MEDS event at FSA in 2012. I was going to hold the event at a full scale airport in 2012 but the property owner and I just could not come to terms on the deal. I have decided that if I can not find a new place to hold the event, well no problem I will just skip a year. I have been asked to bring it back to the FSA field for 2012. I just don't think it is a wise idea. I did it once and had a great event. If I can do it again some where else, fine. If not, oh well not a big deal. I will not renew next year as well. I have spent 6 years at FSA. I have made a lot of friends and had a lot of fun. I really enjoyed flying with most of you. There are a few that I have butted heads with. For those that were involved, I'm sorry. I am sure some where some how I was out of line. I will miss flying at FSA, but I have made up my mind. I will not be back. (to the joy of some I'm sure) Andrew

RE: FSA Clubhouse
Hi all, I have been keeping busy with a bunch of new projects. I am going electric with all of my planes. The biggest planes will be my 1.60 size AT6 Texan and my 1/4 scale Cub. I am currently changing over all of my smaller planes. If you call a 9 foot 6 inch wing small. I have also fell in love with night flying. It is just so relaxing to be out floating around in the dark. I have a new old timer plane that will be my next night flyer. A Lanzos Record Breaker, 96 inch wing, polyhedral, 3ch. Just a very cool looking old timer plane. I can not wait to add 2000 + LED's to it. Along with the pile of other smaller silly projects. Full contact combat planes are a lot of fun. -Andrew

RE: That 4 letter word SNOW
We got a very slight dusting of snow last Saturday. Did not even stick to the driveway. I love to fly in the snow. I put skies on my smaller planes and head to the field. I started to build a set of skies from wood last winter but never got them done. I have a 6000 generator. It will run my pellet stoves, frig, lights, and other odds and ends. OR we can plug it into my 24 foot camper and be totaly set. -Andrew

RE: Looking to increase club meeting participation
As much as I like the idea of having a big club turn out for meetings. It just does not happen. The 80/20 rule is in full swing. I have seen clubs with 120 plus members only have 10-18 people show up and then I have seen clubs with 35 members have 20 of them show. The fact is, a lot of people just want to pay there money and fly. They don't care what happens or who is doing what. They don't know who the club officers are (or care). As long as the grass is cut and nobody keeps them from getting in the air, they are happy. Raffles, 50/50, demos and how to's are good ways to get people to attend but most will stay home. -Andrew
ORIGINAL: Airacobra Currently our R/C club is having difficulty in having members to show up for a monthly meeting. Does anybody have any ideas that may encourage the general membership to attend a monthly meeting?
