Ultra-Micro J-3 Cub: L-4 Grasshopper Conversion
I'd like to show you all my Ultra Micro Cub. I converted it to an L-4 Grasshopper. This was a very quick and easy conversion. If your interested in making your plain yellow cub unique, heres how to do it. First, peel off all the stickers. The black cub stripe down the side helps hold the fuse halves together so you will need to put a few drops of CA on both sides to keep it together. For paint I chose Tamiya Olive Drab acrylic, flat white, and flat black. All paint was shot with an airbrush and masking tape. I didnt do alot of prep work except sand the whole plane with 400 grit to remove the dots from the fuse and to give the paint a good surface to adhere to. Even after that the paint liked to peel up some when I removed the masks for the stripes and windows. A quick touchup with a brush fixed all the spots. You'll need Plastruct .040"x.125 Styrene strips and .025" styrene round rod for the wing struts. The struts are attached with foam safe CA. Cut the struts to your desired length and ca the ends together, then push them into the foam fuselage right behind the landing gear. Your goal is to make a little indentation to fill with CA and reinsert. To attach the strut to the wing, just use a drop of CA and thats it. The round rod was used to mimic the tail feather wire and support bracing for the strut. Remove the foam tires and shoot the whole plane with olive drab. Mask your invasion stripes and windows and your done! Im going to add the stars and bars as well as a few numbers as soon as I make the masks. Total weight in stock form is 26 grams Total weight after conversion is 29 grams Only 3 grams added with struts and paint! Not bad, huh? The weather is pretty bad here so I will maiden her as soon as the wind dies down. Stay tuned! Matt

RE: J-3 Piper Cub bush plane
Heres the video of my J-3 on 4.5" tundras. The wind was blowing pretty hard and gusting to around 25 at times. The Cub was a little difficult to handle, with it being a giant weather vane and all! Overshot the landing strip and rolled it down the embankment at the end. No harm done :) Matt

J-3 Piper Cub bush plane
Heres some pics of my friend's cub on tundras. They are the 4" Dubro big wheels. My cub is on 4.5" big wheels. We let all the air out but the tire still remains stiff due to its thickness. This makes for great rough-field take-offs and landings. Short approaches to 3-point landings are possible on some pretty hairy terrain. Rollout is usually about 5 feet if you get her slow enough. The tail wheel is a Great Planes 1 1/4". RE: Sponsoring Available?
Your best bet is to contact the companies who's parts you will need and sell yourself as a great racer. State all your wins and make them aware of the exposure they will receive. Some companies have sponsorship forms to fill out that make it easier for you and them. posting here and waiting for a reply may or may not work. Do do sound very confident about your skills and thats what companies want. Good luck.

Im going to call a bluff on that statement by the hobby shop. I really doubt they would discontinue a plane that everyone wants right after it comes out.

RE: Traxxas Summit action shots
Thanks for the comments guys. Its a fairly large truck, but nothing out of the ordinary for 1/8th. The battery compartments are well thought out...unlike the HPI Savage FLUX, which always liked to pop open. The compartments on the Summit lock and stay locked. They also have vents to help cool the batteries. If you really want to see performance, a brushless upgrade is in order. In stock form it holds it's own and satisfies the urge to bash quite well. With the transmission set to low, is a little fast by rock crawling standards...more of a rock racer. Its more apt to powering its way up a hill or obstacle rather than methodically navigating a course like a comp crawler.
